The heavy bridge of 'Brains' by Mark Tremonti erupts through the speakers as spotlights race across the crowd. Chuck Matthews steps out onto the stage, looking around at the people in attendance. He smiles, taking in the reaction of the fans. Casually, Chuck begins his walk towards the ring. He moves calmly, but quickly, making no effort to interact with fans until he reaches the apron. At this point, he climbs up, leaning with his back against the ropes, looking out at the crowd. He winks, and steps between the ropes before climbing one of the corners. He raises his arms in his signature horns before hopping down. He rolls his wrists and neck, waiting for the match to begin.

For a man who has been in the business as long as Chuck Matthews has, remarkably little is known about the man often referred to as "The Smartest Man in Wrestling," or his life outside the ring. He takes great care in keeping his personal life private, although it's known to many that he owns a spacious property and a large home in the northern suburbs of Chicago where he lives alone: His last marriage was short-lived following the untimely death of his newborn son. While once one of the more outspoken celebrities in his line of work, Chuck has gotten more quiet and reclusive with age and experience: He is rarely seen in the public sphere, he typically arrives late to wrestling events, changes in time for his match, and promptly leaves once it's over. He isn't unprofessional, though: When called on for an interview or to meet with fans, Chuck will gladly fulfill his duties, and is known to be very easy to approach when he's caught out in the open.



Outside the ring, Chuck is the founder and operator of Matthews Enterprises, a massive conglomerate with child companies delving into media, aeronautics, pharmaceuticals, and the automotive industries. The company has been known to be the exclusive television and pay-per-view provider for several wrestling companies over the years, including NLWF, IWF, and Pride, and a budget had been approved for a wrestling project all its own, though this never saw completion. The company owns several venues around the country devoted to various sports and entertainment mediums. In NLWF and EXODUS, the company also introduced the wrestling world to Enterprise Security, heavily equipped personnel tasked with safeguarding present and future assets of the company by any means necessary. This elite task force both incited fear in fans and foes alike, and raised heavy suspicion that Chuck's company had its feet in far darker waters below the surface.



Personality-wise, Chuck tends to change very little whether on-camera or off, and tends to behave largely the same whether being cheered on TV or booed. Chuck's aim is, more often than not, to serve Chuck, and he's not terribly bothered by what fans think of it: the way he sees it, they'll react the way they'll react, and to change his own behavior to influence that is a waste of his time. Even here, he's made exceptions to his own rules: He has been known to pander to crowds or actively villify himself in situations where fan reaction in one way or another is critical to the success of his plans. Generally speaking, Chuck tends to be witty and sarcastic, deeply introspective, and maintains a level head, to the point it's often mistaken for apathy.
