Hello again Redemption fans, and welcome to Issue 3 of The Redemption Wrapup. I apologize this is a little late, but boy is that jetlag from Japan terrible Haha! All jokes sides, In this issue I will give my thoughts on Ultimate Resolve, discuss the latest Power Rankings, some rumors (Ugh! again), but we begin with my interview with current
Remington: I am joined by both Jack "The Tillman" Ripper and his manager Chris Constantine. Thank you gentleman for joining me.
Chris Constantine: Anytime, Mr. Boucher.
Remington: Let's begin. What were your goals coming into Redemption Wrestling?
Chris Constantine: "Well our goals were to get matches underneath Jacks belt. Before 2017, Jack had just got done being a young boy in Japan and was wrestling in the indie scene to get some experience in matches before making it to much bigger stages like Redemption. When Jacks mentor, Kurt Newman, and I thought Jack was ready for a bigger stage, we shopped around and found places like GOL, EWC, and Redemption that were interested in Jacks talent.
We weren't sure where Jack would be career wise at this point but Jack has surpassed expectations by winning the EWC X-Division Title, getting a title shot at the GOL Soaring Eagle Title, and winning the Genesis Title. It hasn't even been half a year yet and Jack is turning heads left and right with what he is doing. I can only imagine where Jack will be a year from now.
As of right now with our goals, well we try not to think to far ahead. We like to think of the here and now, and the now is making the Genesis title a legit title and for Jack to be the companies greatest Genesis Champion of all time."
Remington: So with that said, do you both consider Jack a success so far?
Chris Constantine: "Most people would consider Jack a success. Like I said before, Jack only started his professional career in 2017 and from the look of things, Jack is going to be the companies greatest Genesis Champion. Other people would point out that Jacks winning percentage is better than that of the current Heavyweight champion Matthew Shields with anyone with over five matches in their pocket. Hell, Jack hasn't even been pinned or submitted yet. But success is having the Heavyweight Title and it's something that's not in our possession yet. So no, we're not successful yet, but give it a year and we'll see where we'll be at."
Remington: What else would you like to succeed with in Redemption Wrestling? The Heavyweight Championship, obviously.
Chris Constantine: "We'd like to see Jack as a main event player around here. We know that, with the help of myself, Jack can put a company on his back and carry it to places Devlin never thought Redemption would go.
Remington: Switching gear, what is your impression of Trixie as a fighter?
Jack Tillman: "Can't really have an impression on someone when I don't consider them a fighter. She's sloppy, not focused, and not worthy of my time. She needs to go back to whatever bingo hall she came from and train on her basics for a year or so before even attempting to come back to a company like Redemption."
Remington: And as a person?
Jack Tillman: "She only got where she's at now for sleeping with the owner of he company. So she's really nothing to me in or out of that ring. Waste of a roster spot for someone who truly deserves it."
Remington: Okay. With WrestleForce on the horizon, what are you hoping for?
Chris Constantine: "We hope that Jack finally gets some competition. Trixie, Mason Moore, and Spike are sports entertainers, gimmicks, and frauds in the wrestling industry. None are professional wrestlers like Jack. So we can only hope that Devlin Scott gives Jack a competitor that knows what their doing in that ring and gives Jack an actual challenge."
Remington: Did you enjoy the Japan Tour?
Jack Tillman: "I enjoyed Japan. I always enjoy my time over in Japan. I lived over in a Japan for 2 years in a little town outside of a Tokyo, Japan. During that time, I was training to be a young boy. Being a young boy was tough but I loved the scenery and the culture over there. Can't wait to go back in the near future."
Remington: Are you up for a European Tour in 2018?
Jack Tillman: "Always up to go back to Europe. Lived in Britain for a year when I was seventeen to learn British style wrestling. While over there, got to visit Germany, Italy, France, Spain, and a lot of the Eastern Europe countries. The fans over there are the best because they bring that soccer atmosphere over so the chants are creative and awesome to listen to."
Remington: Looking towards the future, who do you think is the person to beat you?
Chris Constantine: "We don't want to go down the arrogant rout and say no one will, but when you have a roster full of sports entertainers, gimmicks, cos players, athletes, part timers, and jobbers....well it's hard to find someone out of that whole list who's a true professional wrestler like Jack Tillman. While many people are a model first, a social media star second, and a owner of a gym or coffee place third....... Jack is a wrestler first, second and third. Jack Tillman is a professional wrestler so Im sorry.....but we don't think anyone can truly beat Jack."
Remington: Of the entire roster, who would you like to fight?
Jack Tillman: "Matthew Shields. He currently holds the Heavyweight Title, which makes him the face of the company and the man that everyone wants to beat. That and I'd like to make him humble. Not the biggest fan of individuals who proclaim themselves Kings."
Remington: What about team with?
Jack Tillman: "Coda. One of the few people in this company that I truly respect. She doesn't disrespect this industry like individuals like Trixie who only use it for a platform for other adventures. Coda knows that she's doing in that ring and goes into each match without fear in her eyes."
Remington: Time for the lightning round of questions to finish things up. Favorite music to get you hyped up.
Jack Tillman: "Queens Of The Stone Age"
Remington: How cool is your Redemption shirt?
Chris Constantine: "Catches Jacks personality greatly. Gritty and rough. Matches Jacks wrestling style. Great job by the marketing department."
Remington: Dream match?
Jack Tillman: "Matthew Shields."
Remington: Favorite color?
Jack Tillman: "Red."
Remington: Post win celebration?
Jack Tillman: "Meditation with green tea. Helps me cool down both mentally and physically."
Remington: Thank you both, gentlemen.
Before we get into the Power Rankings. Let's go ahead and take a quick review of Ultimate Resolve. We had a nice long build and while some feuds ended, we saw the beginning of others. So let's take a look!
We saw Devlin Scott and Johnny Maverick battle in a No DQ match. Mr. Scott was injured in this blow off of a match, but in the end it is the post match that mattes. New RW talent, Danny Hall, debuts inside of the ring and tries to get into an altercation with Maverick. These two apparently have history, so we expect more to come here.
In his final match, LJ Daughterty comes up short to RC Tucker. And then we saw the dominance of Burlesque Duplicity continue over The Young Cubs. A Triple Threat match was won by Anton Chase, as he has a New Gen Championship match on the horizon.
Mason Moore and Coda battled to an unfortunate, but I think we have an honest to goodness rivalry here. With both qualifying for the Rags To Riches match, anything can happen.
Lilly Parker seems to have cost herself a win by sticking to her morals. One can respect that, but is it truly worth a loss to Rebel Manson? And then we saw Kenzie Rydell get a win, at least on paper, over Avery Miles III. Avery attacked her after the match and has seems to have turned on the fans.
A brutal two out of three falls match, Spike Steel used his then-BLD buddies to help defeat Zach Knight. This was an interesting innovation on the two out of three falls match as we saw a Submission Match, a Barbed Wire Weapon Match, and a Steel Cage Match.
The Terror Twins picked up a nice tag team win, before asking for their release. Trixie was able to get a big win over Jack Tillman, unfortunately it was not a clean win and the title did not change hands. I can see Trixie still wanting another shot, but will Tillman still hold the title by the time she gets another shot?
A big win by Jeremy Starling not only won him the Young Lions Championship, but it also coincided with the release of Courtney Leinart. I guess she had her time in the spotlight.
Another title change as Queen Caroline was able to pull off a win over Martin Karloff. What looked to be an easy defense for Karloff turned into a life changing night for O'Hara Burchill.
In the Semi Main, we saw the formation of Damage Inc (Damon, Aurora, Corey, and Gray) after Rebel Ink was able to win back the tag titles becoming the first two-time champion in Redemption.
And in the Main Event, we saw Matt Shields retain his title... but how much longer can he hold onto it for? Yujiro likely wanted another crack... and I hope he gets it.
And that is Ultimate Resolve in a nutshell!
Some comings. Some goings. March's Power Rankings have a little more of the same. And it has some changes. Let's take a look.
Matthew Shields remains the champion after Ultimate Resolve. Defeating Yujiro Fujiwara, no matter how he did, goes a long way. With his matchup with Zach Knight in just over a week... can he continue?
1. And still the top challenger, Yuji. With a slight dip in his record to 7-5 he still is the Global Cup Winner and holds a non-title win over Shields. We will see how this pans out over time.
2. At number two, a brand new contender; Blair Laroux. With her taking on Gavin Grimes in one on one competition, it will be interesting. But with a 3-0 record so far in Redemption she has a nice little streak going.
3. And finally a new contender coming in with a 4-2 record, Johnny Maverick. Some big recent wins, Johnny has seemed to turn his fortunes around and looks to be eyeing a future title shot.
* * * * *
The new champion, Caroline O'Hara Burchill, leads the New Gen division. After her win at Ultimate Resolve and a title defense this past weekend all things are looking good for the Queen. With Anton Chase having a New Gen title shot in under a month, the future of the championship looks to be highly battled over.
1. The former champion, Martin Karloff, remains the top contender with a 8-7 record. After losing out in the Fatal 4 Way this past weekend, he actually teams with the champ on the next show in what could make for an interesting match.
2. For the third month in a row, Silas Subhuman. Being a part of the Fatal 4 Way this past weekend was indeed a title shot, but this man is deserving of a one on one shot. With a 7-5 record, he seems to be slipping a little.
3. And finally we see a new contender; Joseph Setala. At 3-0, he earns this spot as Blair earned her. Undefeated and looking strong, Setala seems like a man for an outside shot for the New Gen.
* * * * *
Jack Tillman remains the Genesis Champion. After retaining at Ultimate Resolve and then beating Spike Steel due to DQ this past weekend, Tillman still has yet to be submitted or pinned.
1. Trixie remains atop the Genesis Rankings, but we are unsure for how long. A win this past weekend helped her records to improve to 7-7 but this division is poised to change very soon.
2. Spike Steel comes in second. He earned a shot and unfortunately allowed his own head to get in his way. A temper can do that. With a 5-5 record, Spike looks to try to earn another shot.
3. Mason Moore with a 2-2 record is the third contender in a row with a .500 record, but "The Steam Engine" of Redemption Wrestling has a big career ahead of him.
* * * * *
Jeremy Starling not only won the Young Lions Championship at Ultimate Resolve, but defended it, however unfairly, this past weekend. Living Greatness looks to keep grasp of this title for the coming weeks.
1. Lilly Parker earned herself a title shot and unfortunately was screwed out of thanks to Zach Knight. At 4-3, she remains the top contender for the title and deserves another shot.
2. The second contender is the determined Coda. At 4-1, she only has one loss. Some consider her the top contender and she very well could be. Expect Coda to earn herself some title contention talk in the coming weeks. If it weren't for the Battle Royale win for Lilly, Coda would be top contender.
3. And finally, the third spot is held by Honey. At 3-7 her record is not a great display of who and what she is. Young. Hungry. Determined. Three words to describe her. With other contenders in this division (Alechs, Avery) holding similar subpar records it is anyone's guess as to who might be in this spot in a month.
* * * * *
Rebel Ink was able to defeat the two now defunct teams; The Radialliance and Black Light District. Blazer has moved into singles competition while North is out with an injury. And with Mikhail & Luke leaving Redemption, the District appears to be no more. Rebel Ink looks to defend against some fresh blood.
1. Burlesque Duplicity are undefeated so far in Redemption, and just earned a win over Rebel Ink but the titles did not change hands thanks to Gavin Grimes. It is only a matter of time before they get another shot; so who knows what will happen.
2. The Young Cubs picked up a win over the other half of Damage Inc., Corey Bull and Gray Malone. The win helps to boost their confidence as they look to improve and earn some good fortune in the division.
3. And finally the team of Zach Knight and Jeremy Starling. Teaming once before, this seems like a team that is just waiting to make an impact. What will things look like in a month? Time will tell...
Third issue, and I still hate these rumor mills. But the boss requests it.
And a special apology to Aurora Graves for last issue. I meant no disrespect.
Is Lilly Parker involved in a thruple with Alechs Aurelio and Honey?
For those that do not know, a thruple is a couple but with three people. Alechs has saved both Honey and Lilly. So who knows?
* * * * *
We hear that the "King of the Heavyweights" Matthew Shields is a fan of... Pumpkin Spice.
Candles. Coffee. And even body wash. I kid you not. The "King" is definitely an Autumn kind of guy.
* * * * *
I am hearing rumblings that our show in three weeks that is taking place April 23rd will end up being MUCH bigger. I am also hearing of some sort of Championship Scramble match.
Will the location change? What will be the name? Who knows.
* * * * *
With Gavin Grimes returning to Redemption, it is only a matter of time before Ashleigh Grimes joins as well.
* * * * *
I hear that Silas Subhuman is glad that Black Light District dissolved as he considers himself to be the talent of the group, and expects to be a champion by the time WrestleForce rolls around.
* * * * *
Finally, I am hearing that the previously mentioned All Female Invitational could possibly take place in September in the Barclays Center.
Thank you all again for reading this. Expect April's issue a bit earlier! But this wraps up The Redemption Wrapup. I'm Remington Boucher, wishing you all the best. Til next month!
