Riko Takahashi's eyes fluttered open as the sun peeked through the blinds. It had not been the first time he woke up. No, the local Japanese man had spent many nights in this hospital ever since the match with Coda in a Redemption Wrestling ring had put him here. Just as he was looking forward to the pancake breakfast he ordered the night before, an unexpected sight made his heartrate skyrocket. He reached for the call button that would surely call a nurse to his aid.
"Do not be frightened," Coda spoke in Japanese, knowing it was the language Riko knew better than anything else. "I am not here to hurt you. I simply wish to talk."
"Why should I trust you?" Riko answered in Japanese in return, his voice stuttering slightly out of fear.
"There is a fine line between fighting a competitor and assaulting an innocent bystander who does not deserve it."
Riko sat up slightly, feeling his heart rate start to slow.
"I wish to apologize."
"What...?" Riko answered softly, looking into Coda's cold eyes.
"For ending your career."
"I-- Really? Is that all you wanted to say?"
"No," Coda's expression changed from her usual emotionless glare to a subtle smile. "Surely you believe in honor, yes?"
Riko nodded.
"You did not run. You did not lay down and let me win. You put up more of a fight than Alicia Hixx. That is the definition of honor."

Once you decide to click on the play button, you're greeted with the sight of Coda perched atop a building in the heart of Tokyo. She stands strong and upright, powerful in appearance with a long navy trenchcoat over her ordinary clothes. Winds blew her hair to the west, and as she began to speak in that methodical voice you knew all too well, you were hooked.
"Alicia Hixx was weaker than I imagined. It is a pity. I had hoped for a challenge. I had hoped she would stand up and fight me with every ounce of her strength. Instead, she could not even finish the match."
Coda smirked, continuing to speak with a casual shrug of her shoulders.
"I do look forward to our meeting, Mason. Take solace in the fact that I believe you to be the toughest opponent I have faced thus far, but as you know as well as anyone else, that is not saying much."
You can almost smell the putrid stench of dark soot mixed with tobacco smoke reach your nose through the monitor as a dark fog rolled in through a poorly placed vent. The contrast of the dark clouds in front of Coda along with the neon glow of consumerism behind her was a strange sight, to say the least. Needless to say, it was beautiful in its own unique way. If you were to make a guess, it must have been the fumes from a grill of the restaurant downstairs that caused it, but you weren't certain.
"You are right in regards to the fact that I have been handed easier opponents than I would have liked to face recently. I have fought a local Japanese competitor who can no longer compete, and I have vanquished Alicia Hixx who is largely regarded as a joke within Redemption Wrestling. Having fought her, I can see why."
Her nose flared as the smell reached her nose while she spoke, a faintly agitated look about her that made you think she second guessed her current venue.
"I have fought Honey and Alechs, affectionally dubbed The Young Cubs, with the Global Cup runner-up by my side, and in the short time I have been working for Redemption Wrestling, I have already competed in a number one contender battle royal for the Young Lion Championship. With a threat like me looming in hopes of shattering their dreams of becoming a champion, two of my opponents briefly stood on the same side in order to eliminate me from the beginning, but it is not a mistake I will let happen twice.".
The more she spoke, the more confident she became, strolling along the edge of the building without a hint of fear showing on her face.
"Since I have been competing on television, I have been garnering a modest following. Matthews Shield. Jeremy Starling, Randall Kash, Zachary Knight. Those four respected competitors, as well as many other intelligent people who I have neglected to mention, have all been speaking with one voice to anyone who would listen."
"Recently, the voice has been saying with the utmost veracity that I will not only defeat Mason Moore at Ultimate Resolve, but it will not even be close."
She smirked, standing in place at the edge of the building. One misstep backward and she would fall two stories down.
"I tend to agree."
She stepped away from the ledge, smiling deviously wider as she looked at the camera again.
"Why has Mason Moore failed to garner such attention as I have? We have arrived at the same place at virtually the same time, no? Then what's so different about us?"
Her smile disappeared, making way for a stone-faced emotionless husk of an expression that made Coda famous.
"He is busy cracking jokes about sex and strength. I am busy cracking necks and severing windpipes without a word."
Her vicious words were said with such a cavalier attitude that it was chilling to hear.
"While you are making excuses, I am making an impact, Mason."
"You plead that I give up before you have even stepped between the ropes. You beg that I spare you, leave you unharmed with your current reputation intact. Do you take me for a fool? Do you imagine a world where that scenario would ever be successful?"
Coda's fists clenched at her sides. Have you ever seen her this angry? You didn't think so.
"No."
She grimaced, sneering as she spoke in a rather cold steady tone despite the words.
"I am sorry you are so much of an imbecile that you mistook my manners as anything more than banter between two co-workers. I am sorry you cannot stand the fact that it is me you must fight instead of the current Genesis Champion. I am sorry that I will show no mercy when you have stepped between those ropes and find you are losing more blood than you can create."
"I am sorry that I am not sorry."
She wasn't done.
"The actions committed on Riko Takahashi by my hand will pale in comparison to the brutality I will subject you to.endure, Mason. I will not stop until you are unconscious, and I will not pin you until I feel like you have had enough."
Suddenly, Coda's voice grew softer, yet her methodical menacing pace continued.
"Spend time with your loved ones before Ultimate Resolve. Cherish that time. You will not leave the arena the same way you have entered and you will never forget the foolishness that made you wish I ended your career."
"You are not worth the excess energy."

Silence overtook the nurse's office like a vice as a rather unusual girl slowly stepped through the doorway. Her steps were soft and her skin was pale, those brown hues downward towards the beige tiles underneath.
"Oh, hello," the pediatric nurse smiled brightly with a voice filled to the brim with optimism. Brushing her stringy blonde hair to the side, she watched as the Korean silently sat on a small blue school chair without a word escaping her cold lips.
"Can you tell me your name?"
The nurse followed protocol as she always did, her voice shrill as the wrinkles around her mouth started to deepen. The nine-year-old hadn't responded, her body tense as she almost ignored the words entirely.
"You can call me Nurse Jackie," she explained kindly with another warm smile. "I want to help you, but you have to tell me your name, sweetheart. I can call your parents and we can--"
Just when she suspected that the young Korean with the swelled eye didn't know how to speak English, the little girl answered simply.
"No."
The young girl's voice was thick with a Korean accent, but not so much that the nurse couldn't understand her.
Nurse Jackie got down on her knees, eye level with the little girl. The nine-year-old looked away quickly, causing the nurse to frown with concern.
"Sweetheart. You have to talk to me..."
Nurse Jackie reached for her shoulder. The Korean flinched, squirming in her seat to get away from her touch. She was clearly frightened, her hands white-knuckling the seat by her sides. She was shaking. Nurse Jackie's eyes grew wide.
The nurse stood back up and sauntered back towards her desk. Sitting down on the wheeled office chair, she eyed the computer and began searching the school database for new students. Nurse Jackie knew just about everyone in this school, but just when she was about to figure out the young girl's name and her parent's contact information, a larger boy walked through the entranceway with a hand holding his forehead in pain.
"Joseph. What brings you here?"
His eyes darted to the little Korean girl with fury, but she couldn't look the older boy in the eye. The fifth grader's eyes shifted towards the nurse again, a little blood pouring from his left nostril.
"She punched me," Joseph scowled towards the young girl.
"You hit me first," the nine-year-old bluntly tapped into what she learned in her English class back in Korea. "What was I to do? Let you keep hitting me?"
The way she strung words together sounded so precisely formulaic that it almost seemed alien coming out of her mouth. The words were technically correct, but in a world with contractions, metaphors and constantly changing slang words, the way she spoke had the ability to make people pause.
Joseph didn't have a response but with a disgruntled groan, he sat in his own seat across the room with seething eyes aimed straight towards the girl who had the gall to stand up to him.
Nurse Jackie suddenly spoke up from behind the desk.
"Sweetheart..."
"My name is not sweetheart. It is Yuri."
