FLASHBACK - Off Camera
Alechs. The oldest of three boys. Arturo. The middle son. And Antonio. The baby. The three sons of Alerie. She was a great mom, doing her best to support her boys. Working two jobs. Pulling doubles. Doing everything in her power to make sure that they had food on the table and had a roof over their heads. The aptly named Paradise Housing Community was far from it. East 39th and Boyle Avenue was not the safest place. It was a place to strive to leave, never to come back. It was here that Arturo was shot and killed. But he was dealing drugs, so he got what was coming to him, right? And Antonio is following in his brother’s footsteps. Alechs always had a solid head on his shoulders. Centered. Grounded. And realistic. Professional wrestling was his outlet. But having to work measly jobs was something Alechs planned on doing because a sound job was a smart move.
Alechs hears a commotion outside, and a series of gunshots. It was not uncommon to hear gunshots, but he checked around the apartment and Antonio and Alerie were home. Arturo was not. Alechs decided to check to Juarez family next door; Arturo was over there a lot. He knocked on the door and Miss Juarez answered. Arturo was not there. Alechs decided to head downstairs and see if Arturo was hanging with buddies or goofing off. No rush at all, Alechs rode the elevator down from the 27th floor. Once downstairs, he saw a commotion and a bunch of people freaking out. He walked up to a couple of the bangers that were friends with the Aurelio boys.
Alechs: Hey man, what’s poppin’?
Luis: Alechs… man… I am so sorry… I sent Carmen up to get your mom. Those 7-9 fuckers rolled up on us, and they popped him.
Confused, Alechs steps forward. It was Arturo. He was shot.
Alechs: Arturo! Man, just relax.
He yells.
Alechs: Someone call 911! Hurry!
Older Man: You know they will take forever. They don’t care about us, here.
Alechs grabs and lifts Arturo up.
Alechs: Can someone drive me, please? He is bleeding out!
Alechs puts pressure on the wound.
Luis: Come on man, I’ll drive. Get in back.
They hurry over to Luis’ car and Alechs gets into the back. Alechs yells to the crowd.
Alechs: Tell my ma we are going to the hospital!
Luis takes off, nearly crashing the car into a series of parked cars along the way.
The story ends as we know it. Arturo died in the arms of Alechs on the way. The doctors tried to save him, but it lost too much blood. That night, a friend convinced Alechs to make a man’s decision and not a boy’s reckless one. Things would be very different if it weren’t for that friend. At the same time, Alechs has not been able to grieve. To work through everything. And seeing Antonio go down the same path, how will it turn out? Alechs saves up a lot of emotion inside. Like a bomb ready to explode. Who knows when it will blow?

“That dirty puta might be a champion, but what does it really mean when you need to cheat over and over to hold onto your title? That’s fine, because I don’t mind getting my hands dirty too. I hope that you hold onto your precious little title as tight as you can, because I will take it upon myself to pry it from you. Even if I am not fighting for it. My friend Lilly may not be as nasty as I am, but that is fine. Or whoever else you end up fighting. Honey. Heck, even Coda. You are a joke of a champion, and I will make it a personal vendetta to expose you as a spoiled little brat that earns nothing.”
Alechs says with pure nastiness.
“But this week, me and my girl, Honey, team up again. We’ve done pretty well in working together. The record books may not reflect it, but the more we tag the more experience we gain. We may not have the experience that Joey and Blair have. Or that Avery and Trixie have. We might not have the connection that Illiya and Ezrynn have. And we were born better like Jeremy and Zachary, if you believe them. But what we have is youth. And the fighting spirit to not go down easy. No matter who we end up fighting against inside of the ring, we won’t back down or roll over. We intend on giving it our all, and showing the rest of the division what we lack in experience we make up for in giving it our all. It would be awesome for Honey to face up against her cousin Trixie, and me to face up against Avery. It might even be a dream of ours.
Honey and I will show everyone that we are to be taken seriously. I hear people laugh at us being The Young Cubs. But I take pride in that. And so does Honey.”
Scene 003
Present Day - Off Camera
Alechs wakes up in the middle of the night. He does his best to not wake Honey up. He’s always been a gentleman and slept either at the foot of the bed over the covers, or on the floor. This night, they lucked out and got a room with two beds. He swings his legs out, and slowly let them touch the floor. Sliding out of bed, she is fast asleep. He quietly heads for the door slipping on his hoody and a pair of jogging pants. A pair of sneakers. And a generic MP3 player filled with music to help pass the time. Stepping out of the door, Alechs heads down into the lobby and nods to the front desk person. He pops in the ear buds and heads outside. There is a light rain, but he does not mind. Getting himself ready, he throws his hood up and runs down the street. Eerily, the streets are quite except for the hum of the neon lights that adorn the shops up and down the street. Alechs finds himself pushing his stamina and endurance, running in the rain up and down the street for forty five minutes.
Halfway through the run, Honey wakes up and sees that Alechs is not in bed. She gets up and sees that his sneakers are gone as well. Checking to see what time of day it is, she peeks her head out of the balcony of the hotel room. She catches a glimpse of him. She recognizes the hoody. She smiled as she leans on the door frame. Alechs was a driven man, and that was a quality she liked in him. Even in the middle of the night, he was getting some work in. Breathing easier knowing that he was okay, she made her way back to bed to not alert him that she knew he snuck out to get some running in.
Just a short time later, Alechs would make his way back into the hotel. He made sure to catch his breath as to keep quiet back in the room. Once inside, sneakers and hoody off. He would take a shower in the morning; plus the rain kept him cool. Sliding back into bed, for Honey to never know… or so he thought.
