*We open as Avery Miles III is in a familiar place; inside of the ring at his school. We see former Alpha Rising talent, Alechs Aurelio, inside of the ring with him. The two are sparring as the clock reads a quarter past one in the morning.*
Avery: Don’t go easy on me, Alechs.
Alechs: Nah man, I ain’t. You’ve improved. You knocked that rust off!
*Avery smiles and lowers his head*
Avery: Good. I’ve got to be ready. I am done being in the shadow. This is my time.
*Avery takes off and uses a Slingblade dropping Alechs hard to the mat. He pops up and runs up the ropes in a quicker pace than ever, and hits a moonsault as if he was not even looking. He nails it and mocks a cover for the three count. Avery pushes up to his feet and offers a hand down to Alechs. The younger kid has a smile across his face.*
Avery: What?
Alechs: Nothing.
Avery: No, what is it?
Alechs: Just how hard you’ve pushed yourself. It’s loco.
Avery: I need to step up my game. Like what YOU need to do.
Alechs: I’ve been getting back, what are you trying to say Ave?
Avery: Nothing man. You just can’t hide in this school forever.
Alechs: You know what’s up; quit pushing. Plus you need me here.
*Avery puts both hands on the shoulders of Alechs*
Avery: I get it, I do. Losing someone close to you. Not having them to call or talk to. I’ve been through it. You may have not known her for a long time, but you two went your separate ways. I get it. And I know you miss your brother. I’ve done everything I could to be there for you. But you won’t get anywhere unless you allow yourself to be hurt. I don’t know what it’s like to grow up like you did; or to know where you are from. I had it easier in life, I get that. But I’ve also had loss. And I’ve taken that loss and tried to allow myself to better things because of it. Do you think that I would have Taylor or Brooklyn if I just gave up? Nah, bro. But I never gave up. And you need to stop pussying out, and be a man.
*The look on Alechs face is one of anger and one of shock; he had never been called out like this before by Avery. He stepped back, not sure what to do or say*
Alechs: You are lucky-
Avery: Lucky what? Lucky I care? Lucky I’ve given you a place to train and to work? I’ve been there since the day we met. How many times have I had you over for dinner when your mom and brother moved in with your uncle. Don’t give me this gangsta, thug bullshit. You are smarter than that. We both know that. Don’t take the easy way out. You are better than that, and your ma is going to be damn proud of you for trying. Try and succeed; try and fail… either way at least you fucking tried.
Alechs: You know what Ave; Fuck you! I’m done.
Avery: Fine. Run. Just run and turn your back. I will be here. You know that.
Alechs: Capullo de mierda.
*Alechs storms out of the ring, grabs his bag, and heads out of the school. Avery is left standing inside of the ring with his arms crossed. He shakes his head in dismay as he knows Alechs has so much more to offer but he simply does not want to listen or believe in himself. Just then, Avery’s cell phone rings. He exits the ring and grabs it.*
Avery: Hello? Yeah, I remember. Alpha Rising, yeah. How are you and-
*He pauses and listens*
Avery: Train? Well sure, if she’s got potential like you then- actually, I might have just the right sort of thing for her. She ready to train right away?
