The Right Question
“Hello Ladies and Gentlemen, Friends and Neighbors, Fellow vibrations in the mind of the one true God whose name is Love.” Johnny Maverick says. He is flanked on both sides by men in black hoodies and face concealing masks. We've seen them around Johnny before but he's never really explained what they are.
“My dad was a crazy man. Proper crazy. He believed he was a part of a very real government program called Project MKUltra. MKUltra was a unique government project that involved a lot of torture and LSD in the pursuit of Mind Control. Fiction likes to use this program a lot to be the jumping-off point for psychic powers and brainwashed soldiers...they used it in 'Stranger Things'. My dad was a pro wrestler who believed he was a demon. I was told from birth I was supposed to be some kind of super soldier. Christmas was weird.” Johnny says. He kind of trails off and looks at one of the Ninjas beside him, then snaps back to attention to look at the camera.
“These are the Hoodie Ninjas by the way. A remnant of a past that saw me described as an 'insane cult leader'. They follow my orders and are good to have around when you're up against a guy who likes to have his friends fuck up matches. They don't get involved unless I tell them to and I don't tell them to unless I absolutely need it...or if it's funny. I do a lot of things just because I might find them funny at the time.” Johnny says, waving his hand in front of the face of one of the Hoodie Ninjas. They don't move or blink.
“Now I think it's about time everyone asked themselves a question...when is a win important?” Johnny asks, pausing as if anticipating an answer. The words 'WHEN IS A WIN IMPORTANT?' appearing on a banner that the Hoodie Ninjas unfurl in front of Johnny.
“Is it important if you're a member of a group that's presence has been highlighted by the accusation that they are only capable of winning when they cheat. I'd say so, yes. This group claims it is unimportant but I mean...they know better than that. A win is almost always important.” Johnny says as the Hoodie Ninjas unfold the bottom of the banner to reveal the word 'ALMOST' in big bold letters before they toss that banner aside.
“That 'almost' was there for a reason to make you ask the question 'When isn't a win important?' You're doing a great job following these breadcrumbs.” Johnny says, 'WHEN ISN'T A WIN IMPORTANT?' is on the second banner the Hoodie Ninjas hold up.
“Maybe a win isn't important if you've been doing this for ten years and you've got a list of accomplishments that'd make the average grappler lick thir lips, but that answer is kind of a fake-out. See, those first two questions? Those questions are tricks. They're the incorrect question. The correct question that leads you to the REAL question is 'When is a loss important?'. THAT'S the fucker of a question.” Johnny says, a new banner with the new question replacing the old one.
“Now is the part where you're all about to say 'Johnny you handsome devil, I think you may be bullshitting us.' and you're well within your right to believe that and frankly it works out for me if you believe it... because now is the time when 'When is a loss important?' leads into the question that's really gonna piss people the fuck off.” Johnny says. We cut to footage of Johnny's match with Kenzie when he doesn't go for the ropes that are well within reach and again to the match with Red Dragon and Bad News Brawler as Johnny barely defends himself.
“Is Johnny Maverick the kind of guy who would take a few beatings and throw a few matches so Devlin Scott would let his guard down enough to accept a hardcore match against him?” Johnny says before smiling.
“Why if that were the case, you could make the argument that Johnny Maverick has been playing Devlin Scott like a carny playing a dumb mark for every bit of his alfalfa. Maybe Johnny Maverick is the kind of guy who, know that he's getting what he wants, is ready to stop pretending he's the kinda guy who could never come up with a plan to save his life and maybe....JUST MAYBE... Johnny Maverick is the kinda guy whose gonna drop this ruse in the form of beating the living fuck out of Silas Subhuman.” Johnny says with a smile.
“You can call this what you want. You can think that I'm full of shit and that's fine. Maybe I am. Maybe I'm bending circumstances to meet my needs and fit my story. Maybe there's a few half-truths, whole lies, and 'alternative facts' but you know what I'm going to call it? Mind Control. And soon everyone on the Redemption Wrestling roster is going to have to come to terms with the fact that I own a little real estate between their ears and everyone who's about to line up to tell me that I'm wrong? Soon they'll be telling me how my dick tastes.” Johnny says. Johnny gives a wordless glance to one of the Hoodie Ninjas and they go over to the camera.
“Psychic Warfare is Real.” Johnny says with a smirk just before the Ninja turns the camera off.
