Unknown: Please welcome Elijah James.
The diminutive Japanese men elevated his arm as Elijah entered the stage before repeating the formality is his native tongue. Elijah stepped forward and sat at the table before him to face the entourage of interviewers and journalists. He looked at the concoction of unknown faces before him and immediately felt reassured to see a familiar face amongst them in Redemption's Hannah Lacey. She raised a hand and smiled, perhaps sensing his lack of experience with such high profile occasions. Elijah flashed a grin and pointed to a raised hand in the front row to begin the press conference. A Japanese man stood up and made his introductions.
Journalist #1: Welcome to Japan.
Elijah: Thanks, it's an honour to be here.
Journalist #1: What can the Japanese fans expect to see from you, Mr James?
Elijah: Firstly, I'd just to like to say it's an absolute privilege to be here, both in Redemption and in Japan. Japanese wrestling has been a huge influence on my career, on how I wrestle and how I conduct myself in the ring. I fight with honour, and integrity, and hopefully the Japanese fans will take me in and enjoy my matches while I'm a part of this tour.
Elijah looked around the room for another journalist. Hannah's hand shot in the air, immediately catching the eye of Elijah. Her striking looks would grasp any man's attention, but even more so in this room of middle aged men. Elijah gave a warm smile and pointed in here direction.
Elijah: Miss Lacey..
Hannah: Hello again. You've been thrown in at the deep end with this tag match. What do you know about your opponents, the Black Light District?
Elijah: I know enough to know that I don't like them. I don't like to speak ill of people I've never met, but these guys have a thick skin, I don't think they'll lose any sleep when I say that I despise everything I've seen and read about their time here. Spike Steel has a big mouth, and I know that's led him on a collision with my partner down the line. So far as I can tell he doesn't care much for rules, and has a proclivity for using weapons. I don't care for them myself, but I can see why he hides behind them. I mean this guy is hardly gonna feature on the cover of a men's health magazine any time soon, and if anything a few chair to his face would probably be improvement.
There was a chuckle from a handful of journalists that weren't lost in translation.
Elijah: Listen, I look forward to locking horns with this guy, but I'll probably have to fight Zack to get to him, and thats not my intention. As for Mikhail Reinhardt, he might be the most deplorable man in all of professional wrestling. You don't need me to tell you why. The man has deep underlying issues, he's mentally unhinged, and seems to have no consideration for anyone, or anything other than his own personal agenda. Whether you like it or not, we're all role models in this business. There are hundreds, if not thousands of children in the crowd, and countless more watching us at home. His actions last week, and every other week for that matter, don't belong in professional wrestling. People like him need to be dealt with, they need to be tied up in knots and armbars and hammerlocks and humiliated, right in the middle of the ring where everyone can see it! If I have to go war here, so be it. It's not how I like to do things, but sometimes you're left with no choice. Good luck to them both, I say, because they're going to need it.
He pointed to another Japanese journalist. A large middle aged man introduced himself accordingly, proceeding with his question in near perfect English.
Journalist #2: Your partner, Zach Knight, in his recent promo said you should 'stay out of his way'. How do you respond to that?
Elijah: Did he? I must have missed that one.
He let out a wry smile.
Elijah: Zach Knight would do well to remember that me and him will be on the same side here. I'll be there in his corner, and I expect him to be in mine. He may need me more than he thinks. What's important is us winning this match, getting a win under our belts, and showing the world that the Black Light District don't have quite the hold on this place like they think they do.
The same journalist proceeded with a follow up to his previous question.
Journalist #2: He seems to be drawing a lot of attention to himself, courting a lot of controversy since his arrival here. Have you witnessed anything backstage between Zach and Lilly Parker?
Elijah: Look, Im barely inside the door here at Redemption. Last week in Kobe was my first event, so no, I haven't witnessed anything. I saw there was a heated exchange when I watched the tapes back, at least on his part. But listen, I don't know what their story is. If I see something I don't condone, I confront it. But I don't know Lilly and I don't know Zach. I'm just here to focus on wrestling, on winning this match and putting on a show for the Japanese fans.
Elijah stood up from the table to leave.
Elijah: I don't get out of bed for anything less than a five star match. This may not be one for the purists, but I promise you, and all the fans watching, that the best team will win. The team of Elijah James and Zach Knight. Thanks for all the questions, see you in Yokohama.
He left the stage as the the video came to the close.
