We switch backstage to a wide open hallway where Coda holds a thick book in the palms of her hands. The cover is a pale olive green with yellow decorative text that reads 'Greek Myths' firmly in the center. With her back against the wall, the introvert sits on a large crate as she absorbs every single word in solitary comfort. With her legs dangling down, her eyes catch sight of a shadow that approaches her just as she turns the page. Raising an eyebrow, the Korean-born sadist looks up from her book dispassionately as the camera pans over to see Jeremy Starling with a proud grin adorning his face.
Jeremy: Look, with our match coming up I just wanted to let you know that for everything we disagree on we need to be focused tonight. And quite especially myself seeing as later I’ll be moving on to the finals of the Global Cup tournament.
Coda blinks but calmly decides to respond with silence.
Jeremy: Right, I understand. You’re not one to fight alongside a partner. You would rather fight your own battles, and I can appreciate that. In fact, I would rather have that myself especially given the last tag match I was in, The partner I was given was more showboat than serious. We may have come out victorious, but only because of my actions. This match has to go differently. We both have to do our parts, not one more than the other. I don’t expect to have to carry you, but I will if it comes to that.
With a subtle annoyed look in her eye, Coda tilts her head slightly as her long dark hair falls in front of her cold eyes.
Coda: Do I look like a showboat to you?
Pushing her hair to the side with her fingertips, she continued in that systematic way she spoke.
Coda: Do not let your arrogance ruin this night for us. Do not for a second think that I am not focused on our opponents tonight either. It is not my fault you hold back because you wish not to 'act like a savage' and actually get things done.
Jeremy holds a finger up to her, causing the dangerous woman to become a little more agitated. Still, he pauses and only nods instead.
Jeremy: I will do what it takes to win the match. I know that you have a particular way you wish to do things. Fine, your devices on your time, but it comes down to this: we agree that we are the best this company has to offer and we can’t let two posers, certainly not two “cubs”, show us up.
He turns to walk in the opposite direction, leaving Coda to her book, but before he disappears from view, he peeks over his shoulder and faces his tag team partner yet again.
Jeremy: And for the record, if savagery does win us the match I have no qualms against its use, but I would rather win this match with the class due to both of us. We are better, and we will prove it tonight.
The Korean-born woman looked back at Jeremy with another uncompassionate stare, but then she reluctantly nodded in response.
Coda: On this, we can agree.
She looks down at her book for a moment and then back at her boastful tag team partner.
Coda: Before you go, I wish that you heed my advice: Do not fly too close to the sun, Icarus. You are close to the Global Cub you cherish so much. Should you act like your former tag team partner and let that ego control you - in our match or otherwise - you will burn.
Coda's eyes fall back to the book in her hands, her expression changing. She realizes that what she said could have been easily misconstrued, and after a bit of thinking, she finishes her thought without looking back at her partner.
Coda: I do not want you to burn. I want you to thrive.
Jeremy shakes his head with a confident smirk.
Jeremy: I am not Icarus. I am Perseus.
As Jeremy finally leaves Coda's sight, she turns the page yet again with that same unflinching expression.
