I’m very uncomfortable at this moment. My skype screen on my laptop is open and in front of me is a middle aged woman with large glasses. She purses her lips although I don’t think she realizes she’s doing it.
The woman, is my sister Emma’s therapist. Dr. Tessa McDonald. As part of Emma’s therapy, she is contacting her closest friends and family to get more of an insight into who Emma is based on the opinions of us. So far she had spoken to Taylor and now it was my turn.
“Thank you for taking time to speak with me Mr. Daughterty.”
Even her voice comes off sounding like she feels she is better than me or anyone else. It was a common theme I found with therapists.
“Of course. Anything to aid in my sister’s recovery.”
There is more awkward silence before she clears her throat.
“So tell me, how was yours and Emmaline’s childhood. Was there any significant things that shaped how she is now?
I am confused why she is asking me this though. Wouldn’t this be something she should ask Em?
“I’m not sure that I can answer that question Dr. McDonald. I have no idea what things Em would consider significant since I cannot read her mind.”
The doctor nods and then jots something down on a paper. This was something that I found very annoying. She was already making conclusions and she’d only asked me one question.
“She hasn’t mentioned anything?”
I shrug.
“Learning to wrestle perhaps? Our time spend together with me training her? I know she has mentioned in her promos that it was something that she remembered fondly.”
Once again the doctor is taking notes. I wanted this little interrogation to be over.
“And your relationship was damanged for some time wasn’t it?”
I nod.
“What happened?”
I sign.
“Look Doctor. Can we just be straight? You want to know specific things just ask. I pride myself on being a straight shooter, I implore you to do the same.”
She gives a hint of a smile.
“Okay Levi. Emma tells me that your relationship was damaged after your mother’s death. You blew up at her publically that caused her to leave. But you have worked on repairing that the last year or so?”
“Yes. I believe our relationship is significantly better since I came to the states.”
The doctor nods.
“Dr. McDonald. I have to ask. What is the point of you asking me this? I am not the one seeking your help.”
She studies me for a moment.
“Tell me about Lisbeth.”
I raise an eyebrow.
“My ex-girlfriend. Why?”
“Emma mentioned that you took it very hard when you ended your relationship.”
I sigh. I must remember to kill my sister when I got home.
“I was planning on one day marrying her. So yes. I took it pretty hard when she essentially grew tired of me. Apparently women prefer a man who is rude, uncouth and otherwise... and forgive my language, assholes. That is just not in my nature to do so to someone undeserving of it.”
“And have you attempted to date anyone else since?”
Damn my sister.
“No. I am not interested in having my heart slaughtered a second time, thank you.”
She nods.
“Your friend Taylor has said that both you and Emma could probably do well with dating. I for one agree. It doesn’t mean that you have to look for something serious but perhaps just getting out there?”
“No offence Dr. McDonald but I do not need relationship advice. IS there anything else regarding Emma that you needed to ask me?”
She shakes her head.
“You don’t believe that Emma will do anything rash to try and get Devlin Scott back do you?”
That was a hard question to answer.
“I believe that Emma is still in love with him yes but from what I have seen lately, she had made an effort to try to move on. Do I think she would go back to him if he asked? Yes. I do.”
“And the likeliness of that?”
I chuckle.
“None. Devlin Scott is very much focused on looks. Trixie is someone that is very much about her looks. As beautiful as my sister is, if it came down to picking her or Trixie... Unfortunately she is going to lose out. I have done everything in my power to let her know that she doesn’t need him to feel special. And I don’t mean just dating someone new either.”
The doctor actually gives me a smile.
“Thank you Levi. I am convinced that you and Taylor Miles both have Emma’s interests in mind when you say or do things and that means quite a bit with the program I plan on doing with her. She will need the support of those closest to her.”
‘I am glad she sought you out to help. Have a good day doctor.”
I don’t wait for her answer and simply end the call. I didn’t want to run the risk of her asking me more personal questions. I wasn’t sure if I would ever date again.
I start to get myself ready for sleep. As always I planned on waking up early for my run and workout before the match later on when my phone beeps with the notification of a text message.

Hi Levi, you still awake?
I find myself smiling.
Levi:
Yes
Hannah Lacey:
Can I interview you tomorrow?
Levi:
Absolutely. See you then.
