Lilly Parker smiles at the fans that make their way through the line. Each of them ask her questions, just like the rest of the people at the tables. An expo meet and greet setup by Redemption for the people of Japan to meet the wrestlers.
A young man, dressed in a Courtney Leinert shirt steps up and gives Lilly a crooked smile.
“You really think you are better than the champion!” he accuses, pointing a finger at her. His English is remarkably good, although you can hear his accent breaking through. Lilly gives the man a smile.
“It’s not a matter of thinking I am better Sir. It’s not even about if I am or not because on any given day, someone you never thought could win could step up and do what others may think is the impossible. I never assume things about anyone. Not like she had done about me. I am used to people assuming things about me. They think that I am unintelligent. They assume my words before I speak them and not to sound like a meanie face but that’s just setting yourself up to look kinda silly. If you are not going to bother actually doing research about me then it’s better to just not say anything at all really.”
The man seems to have his next comment completely stripped from him because he was prepared to debate her calling Courtney a bully like she so foolishly said in her promo.
“I am not going to go into the ring and say I am going to lose. I am not going to say that she is better or that I am better. I only know what my skills are. I have faith in them. I don’t have to be the best looking. I don’t have to have a round bum. I don’t have to try and force the opinion that I am attractive down people’s throats because I don’t believe myself to be unattractive but everyone has their own opinions. I don’t comment on people’s looks. Everyone is pretty or handsome in their own ways. And that... has nothing to do with the wrestling ring. And I’m not sorry to say that.”
The man’s face screws up in irritation.
“Well she’s going to teach you a lesson!”
Lilly once again gives the man a warm smile.
“And what lesson will that be?”
“That... that... That she’s better than you!”
Lilly shakes her head.
“If she beats me in the match, then yes, that will show that she was better than me in that match but she seems to think that one loss is going to damage my self esteem beyond repair. The thing about self esteem sir is that it is SELF given. Meaning that only I can take it away from myself. I am not one to beat myself up over a loss. I loss my very first match in a ring and last week I lost to Mr Daughterty. He was better than me in that match but there may very well come another time when I will come out the victor. This sport is very much just as mental as it is physical. She can be strong physically but if she doesn’t focus on our match, she will find herself outsmarted. I hope that’s not the case though. I really hope that she can stop thinking about my butt and things being in it long enough to realize that arrogance is not a skill that will help you against someone like me. I have already beaten a champion in Redemption. I beat Trixie in the first round of the tournament. A tournament that Courtney wasn’t even in I might add. I’m not going to say a bunch of insults about her because that doesn’t do anything except make me look bad. I have won far tougher matches than this one. But I wish her all the luck there is and want a good match.”
The fan seems to have lost all his words and moves on, giving her a nasty bit of cut eye. Beside her, Levi Daughterty had heard the entire conversation and pats her hand.
“You have a lot more composure than many give you credit for.”
She smiles.
“I just know that when people try to provoke you to do or say things, doing that only gives them power over me and I am not prepared to do that.”
Levi nods.
“You gave me a run for my money last week Lilly. I really think that you are one of the next real stars not just in redemption but in this business and believe me, I have been around a while to see it.”
Lilly blushes.
“Thank you Mr. Daughterty. And I mean it. I would very much like to face you again.”
“Please, call me Levi. And I would like that as well. Once you have a few more matches under your belt, I will gladly give you a rematch. I’d tell you not to let anyone get to you but I think you manage that just fine on your own.”
Lilly is still blushing at his kind words before she turns back to the next fan in line. All the while in her mind she is thinking about what it would mean to her to beat another champion. The title didn’t matter to her so much as proving that she was worthy of having one some day. If anything she wanted to beat Courtney because it was more to show that assuming anything about people was wrong. She wouldn’t gloat about it, it was a personal victory that she was determined to have.
