This scene opens up at a particularly nice establishment somewhere in Kobe. Cadence and Jeremy are both nicely dressed and enjoying some fine drinks.
”So by the time I’m done here, I’ll have the Global Cup, a new business and a beautiful woman to share it all with. If that isn’t the definition of luck I don’t know what is.”
Cadence smiles shyly. ”I don’t know if I’m ready for that kind of attention. I’m just in a little shock of all you’ve accomplished and managed to get yourself into Apex as well.”
”At this point it only makes sense. Yes that will mean a lot of back and forth between continents and timezones until the tour is done, but that’s a matter beside the point. If I want to be taken seriously, I have to show how much more I have to offer.”
Candace raised an eyebrow at this. ”Jeremy, I’ve been with you long enough to know when you’re doing a double talk. What are you hiding?”
Jeremy raised both his eyebrows and pursed his lips a little before reaching into his pocket and pulling out a small box. ”There’s going to be a lot changing soon. I’ve heard how much you’ve been impressing your bosses. They are already speaking of giving you a full time position after you graduate and that is coming up soon as well. And that’s just your life, but it has intertwined with mine so much now, that what affects you will affect me. And vice versa. With the Global Cup finals practically a formality at this point, I’m going to have more to offer this business. But where I don’t need to offer to either Starling Associated or to the ring...” He opens the box revealing a small emerald ring on a white gold band with ruby inserts. ”I know I want to give everything to you.”
”Jeremy...”
”I’m not getting on a knee yet. Neither of us are truly ready for that step just yet, but soon we will be and I always make sure to have a deal in the wings before entering any commitment.”
”It’s beautiful. But you didn’t need to. I already know.”
”I wanted to. As I said, whatever I can give, I want it to be for you. I know it has been exhausting for me to be in my more arrogant moods recently, but you have been there for me through it all. And you deserve just the smallest token I can give you...” He takes out the ring and shows an inscription on the inside. ”My Living Perfection.”

”Can’t be done they say. In over my head they say. Arrogant and pompous and brash and egomaniacal they call me. If any of them honestly saw half the picture that they claim, they’d quickly see that it is not their faces on the canvas. True works of art are bold and dazzling and magnificent. They might even be a little pompous.
“Honestly, did anyone not think that I wouldn’t strike a deal to make sure that the vermin known as the Black Light District would keep their noses out if my business? To their credit, they didn’t have just one horse in the race. Probably a good thing considering the last horse should have been taken behind the barn a decade ago, but I promised them that they wouldn’t make it that far and I’m intent on seeing that promise through.
“So after the demented fool, the devil wants to play one more time. Oh this is getting to be such a boring song and dance with this one. Twice he has been put against me, once even by his own request, and twice he was put down like a rabid dog. Yet he continues to insist on his messages and his plans and his schemes. I’m going to make this very clear for you and for your family and for the ruffians you band with: there is no outcome in this where you send any kind of message to your advantage. The only possible outcome is you broken, battered, maybe even bloodied, on your back staring at the lights and wondering why you ever thought a third time would be a charm.
“I don’t know that it’s possible to be too succinct in words, but so far every time I have spoken it, something has come of it. Except for the title shots I have earned but not been granted, my body of evidence to my own greatness continues to stack. And yet the little minds of BLD and the rest of the Redemption roster continue to think to aggravate me by disregarding my statements.
“All, that is, but a few who have chosen wise courses of action. Not a team, not a partnership in the strictest sense, but an alliance certainly. An alliance of mutual support rather than truly teaming together. After all, Coda has proven that she would rather handle things on her own. An attitude I can certainly get behind considering I would rather have my hands dirty than rely on others to get the job done. It’s true, Coda and i do not see eye-to-eye in every minute detail, but we agree on the important matters.
“Such as the only thing that will matter at Glory will be to defeat the bee barf that I have already dealt with and her… whatever it is that he represents to her. I cannot honestly tell if it’s close enough to be family or if there is some underlying incestuous happening between those two. Honey and Alechs are perhaps as dangerous as a garter snake. Sure they have their own venom, they even get little victories over the even less talented, but this time they are up against the top of the food chain, the apex of the evolutionary ladder. And while they pat themselves on the back for their minor achievements, Coda and I will be busy gaining meaningful wins. Those two will not even be in the cliff notes of my ascension. I’m already born better, everyone knows I am Living Greatness, so if it takes blasting through one last pathetic team for everyone to realize it, so be it.”
