OFF CAMERA
*We open as Avery, Taylor, and Brooklyn are getting ready for a family get together. Normally the Miles Family Christmas was at his parent’s house but they had decided to throw something a bit bigger. The three of them were dressed up nicely, and even pregnant with triplets Taylor looked radiant. It was the high 60’s in Indio, California which was a few ticks less than the average but still warm enough for just a light fleece. Little Brooklyn was wearing her favorite purple dress as Avery wore a white button up and emerald green vest.*
Avery: It’s a bit stuffy in here.
*Avery tugs on his collar. They were getting ready to head out the door of their home. They have come a long way; buying the childhood home of Taylor and rehabbing it into the dream home for their family. For now, the three of them.. But soon it would be six. Taylor shakes her head.*
Taylor: I’m perfectly fine since I turned up the heat.
*She says it nonchalantly. She checks her appearance in the mirror quickly.*
Avery: How much longer do you have again?
*He smiles, rubbing her belly*
Avery: It’s always 80 degrees in here. And someone cannot get enough Reese Cups.
*Taylor narrows her eyes at him.*
Taylor: 18 weeks, Avery.
*She kisses his cheek before moving to slip on her heels.*
Avery: I’ll pull the car up.
*Avery bends down to address Brooklyn*
Avery: You help Mommy out, okay?
*She nods*
Avery: Thank you, Brooky.
*Avery heads out the door with his keys in hand and pulls their SUV around to the front door. He heads out to the passenger side as Taylor makes her way out. Opening the door, he makes sure to help her into the truck as he is overly cautious. He gets Brooklyn into her car seat into the back, and straps her down as well. Back into the driver’s seat, Avery puts on some Christmas music quietly as he pulls out of the driveway. Instead of hanging a left towards the location of the planned event, he hangs a right. Taylor notices and looks over at him*
Taylor: You were supposed to go left there...
Avery: Oh, was I?
*He smirks, almost immediately giving away that something is up. Avery begins to sing along with the music, almost ignoring her inquisition as he peers over and sees her mind trying to figure things out.*
Avery: Have you had much time to catch up with Emma and LJ? I know they’ve been staying at the house, but with LJ training and getting ready for the title match and Emma helping me at the school… how are they adjusting?
Taylor: What are you up too Ave? If you are trying to distract me it's not going to work. What's going on?
*She’s not easily tricked but she does answer his question.*
Taylor: Levi did ask if I knew any single male friends for Em. Is this some weird setup?
Avery: Wait… he is asking for his sister? Sorta weird. But I bet he’s out to try and throw it in the face of Devlin.
*Avery makes a series of turns until he is on Indio Boulevard. He is clearly heading opposite of the venue that they spoke about.*
Avery: That whole situation. Weird.
*He pulls up to a red light.*
Taylor: He wants her to get over him but funny enough, Em asked me the same thing for him. Apparently he’s not dated since Lisbeth either
*She’s paying more attention to the conversation now.*
Avery: Yeah. We had a house show where we teamed up, but I’ve been so busy with trying to train Honey. Trying to convince Alechs to join and to coach him up. Defending the title in Lucha. My head is literally spinning.
*The light turns and Avery heads down the funny enough named Miles Avenue. Taylor realizes this is the park where they had their first official date and kiss; and the same park they brought Brooklyn to for the Fourth of July. Taylor doesn't answer him only looks confused at the location.*
Taylor: Why are we at the Park, Ave?
Avery: Oh, didn’t I tell you? They changed venues.
*They look out and see Christmas Lights strewn around the park. A gathering of people. And there is a center area where the people are seated with white Christmas lights lighting up the area.*
Avery: Looks like we are the last to arrive here!
*Taylor looks a little irritated, looking down at her heels.*
Taylor: A little overdressed for a Christmas party at a Park, don't you think? I'm going to get my heels caught in the grass
*She pouts a little.*
Avery: No, you will be fine. I bet they put down something for people to walk on.
*Avery checks back to Brooklyn*
Avery: You doing okay back there, Princess?
Brooklyn: Uh huh.
*The little girl looks out the window, admiring the lights. They pull up as Taylor begins to make out some of the familiar faces. Katherine and Jonathan, his parents. Some of their friends from Indio. A few extended family members from his side. Taylor’s eyes scan and begin to see some faces that are unexpected; Devlin Scott, Trixie, Honey, Alechs, LJ, Emma, Damon, Aurora, her brother, and even… her… father!*
Taylor: I thought this was supposed to be a family thing? I get Em & LJ since they are staying with us, but the rest? What is really going on here Avery?
*Avery turns towards her, and takes her hand in his.*
Avery: I love you, Tay. More than anything. You know that. From the day I met you, you were always special. Things just didn’t work out the way we wanted to, but here we are, together nonetheless. I have and will continue to fight for you in life. We’ve discussed it and it is more of a when instead of an if. Well, that when is now. No engagement. No lead up silliness. Nothing against those that do that sort of thing, but it is important for me to make us what we’ve always wanted to be.
*Avery pulls out a stunning ring; one with the birthstone of Taylor and Avery both.*
Avery: Taylor-Elizabeth Mackenzie Castle-Devereaux, will you please marry me?
*He smiles, using her full name. Her breath catches in her throat.*
Taylor: Avery... I don't know what to say...
*She doesn't mean it to come off as indecisive at all but more as though she was so shocked by the whole thing that she was having a hard time processing it.*
Avery: Is that a yes? Taylor?
*He rubs her hand, as Brooklyn smiles waiting for her mother to answer.*
Brooklyn: Daddy, marry?
*Taylor’s eyes well up as she nods her head yes. Avery smiles brightly as he quickly undoes his seatbelt and leans across the center console hugging and kissing her.*
Avery: Well, that is only surprise number one.
*Taylor looks wide eyed as she wipes away some joyful tears*
Avery: We do things unconventionally, but that is us. This isn’t some sort of engagement party or anything. We are getting married. Right here. Right now. You good with that, soon to be Mrs. Miles?
*Taylor looks up from admiring the ring to up at him slowly.*
Taylor: Say what? But... This isn't my best dress... And it's definitely not a wedding dress... And the license...”
*There is a bit of panic in her voice. She was normally someone that liked to be in control of things in her life.*
Avery: Remember that housing document I had you sign as I was on my way out? Yup. Done.
*He laughs*
Avery: And I have a friend that runs a local dress shop. She is set up over there in that little building with some dresses. You can pick whatever you’d like. I’ve been planning this for awhile now, babe.
*He rubs her hand to calm her. Taylor shakes her head, a smile forming on her lips.*
Taylor: Avery, you are one of a kind. I love you. And I love you for doing this.
Avery: I love you, too.
*Avery gets out of the SUV and heads over to the passenger’s side. He holds open the door and a hand to Taylor, to help her exit. Trixie heads over to help as Avery had asked her to do so earlier in the week. Trixie and Taylor head off to fit into a desired dress, as Avery grabbed Brooklyn and joined the gathering in the park*
----
----
*The music is from a string quartet, off to the side. Something soft and sweet that Taylor doesn't recognize but it sounds nice. She trusted Avery completely in the choices he had made. The dress she had chosen was a champagne colored mermaid style, a scooping collar and open back. Of course the tightness of the style accentuated her growing belly but it didn't bother her.*
Levi steps up beside her as she looks down the aisle. As a last minute thing she had asked him to give her away, since her and her father weren't close. He seems uncomfortable though, pulling a little at his tie.*
Taylor: You seem more nervous than I do LJ.
*She chuckles as she takes his arm.*
LJ: Asked to give you away and be best man are two really important jobs which I take very seriously.
*He looks up at her with a smirk. She shakes her head before patting his hand.*
LJ: Are you ready?
*Taylor smiles, trying hard to hold back the tears brimming in her eyes. LJ starts to lead her as the quartet plays the wedding march. Avery stands up at the altar in front of their small gathering. Just close family and friends. Avery is dressed for the occasion, looking quite dapper. He mouths to LJ a “thank you” as his friend nods in all seriousness. Avery’s eyes cannot drift away from Taylor as she looks purely stunning in her dress. This is the moment that the two of them have been wanting since they were teenagers. And it was finally coming true.
Taylor kisses LJ’s cheek, as he bends down to let her. He then moves to the side, allowing Avery to take his spot.*
Avery: You look amazing!
*He whispers to his soon to be wife. They both take each other’s hands and turns towards the officiant. He was the Pastor at their local church that knew them both as children. He began to speak his parts and would go on to recite some of their favorite quotes including Corinthians 13:4-8*
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
Pastor Dave: And now, do the both of you have prepared vows for each other?
*He looks first at Taylor. She panics, her eyes going wide and then in her cool and collected style, tell the Pastor*
Taylor: I got this.
*She takes Avery’s hands in her own.*
Taylor: So many people say not to take much out of young romance but I knew the moment I met Avery he was the one meant for me. And against all odds, we found each other. I have never wanted anything more than to be his. He is a good man. A man that has integrity and spirit. A huge heart that accepts any person into it without doubt. He took that chance with me, with my daughter Brooklyn. He is the love of my life and I look forward to our continuing journey.”
*Avery wipes his eye as the Pastor turns towards Avery*
Avery: Taylor. I’ve loved you from the moment that I set my eyes on you. We were always like two ships passing in the night; on completely different courses. In the end, we have reached the same destination. And that is what leads us here to this moment. Through success and through pain… we have managed to build a life for ourselves. We have helped each other out in our darkest days, and we look to build a family that we both have wanted for so long. I love you. And I love Brooklyn like my own. Forever and for always. You are my special one.
*The pastor goes on to say a few more words but all Taylor can focus on is Avery. She mouths, ‘I love you’ As the pastor moves on to the exchanging of rings. Avery takes the hand of Taylor, and slides on his grandmother’s wedding ring to add to the engagement ring that she just received not too long ago. It was the ring that his mother wore; and the one that Taylor had always loved seeing Katherine wear.*
Avery: With this ring, I thee wed.
*Taylor looks around nervously, not having a ring to give him when from within the crowd, her father stands, coming up the aisle of grass to place something into her palm.*
Taylor’s Father: This was my grandfathers. I think that he would have been proud to know it was put on the finger of such a great man
*Taylor smiles, thanks him with a genuine smile before slipping it onto Avery's finger.*
Taylor: With this ring, I thee wed.
*She attempts to try to keep herself from crying as she says it.*
Pastor Dave: As long as anyone does not have anything to say.
*A slight pause, no one obviously has anything to say*
Pastor Dave: I now pronounce you man and wife. You may kiss the bride.
*Taylor smiles, looking up at her now husband and moving in towards him. The two of them move in for a kiss as Brooklyn runs over and hugs both of her parents.*
Brooklyn: Gross! Kissy!
*The entire audience laughs as Avery grabs his daughter and lifts her up into the air. Their friends and families all stand and clap, happy for the new couple*
Pastor Dave: Ladies and gentlemen…. Mr. and Mrs. Avery Miles III.
*Trixie and Emma both move closer to give their bestie a big hug while Damon and Aurora have moved up the aisle to talk to Avery.*
Emma: Well it's about bloody time love. We all knew it should have happened months ago
*Trixie nods in agreement.*
Trixie: Totally. You look gorge Tay-Tay.
*Trixie looks longingly back over her shoulder at Devlin. Emma clears her throat.*
Emma: I’m going to go find myself a glass of champagne
*She excuses herself but her being uncomfortable doesn't go unnoticed by Avery who saw her leave abruptly.*
Avery: Excuse me guys. Be right back.
*As Avery heads past his group of friends, he brushes his hand by Taylor’s to let her know that he will be right back. He heads to a table near the back where glasses of champagne sit.*
Avery: You get drunk quicker with one less kidney, right?
*He chuckles to Emma at the table*
Emma: I bloody well hope so.
*She takes a gulp, downing half the flute of the bronze liquid.*
Avery: I saw that, by the way. Whatever is between the two of you… none of my business. But I know that he’s been pretty cozy with her. How about I set you up on a date with Big Chief?
*Avery referred to the head trainer at his school. Emma was helping ease some of the stress from the school by taking up some of the trainees. She laughs, shaking her head.*
Emma: No thanks love. I’m still not ready to get back on any horse. But I'm happy for him.
*She finishes the rest of the glass and sets it down on the table. Avery grabs a glass and drinks half of it. He set its down and hugs Emma.*
Avery: Thank you for being here. Taylor and I really appreciate it. It means a lot to us.
*She hugs him back before taking a step away.*
Emma: I’d do virtually anything for the pair of you. I'm glad to see you both so happy
*Avery downs the rest of his flute and smiles at Emma.*
Avery: Well… I sorta have a thing to get back to. Just know… I am here for you as much as LJ or Taylor is.
*The blonde nods before grabbing another glass.*
Emma: Cheers Mate.
*Avery heads back up to the group that was Trixie, Taylor, LJ, and Damon. Avery cuts his way in.*
Avery: Ladies and guys; I think we should head over to the pavilion. We have some celebrating to do and I do believe I owe my wife a couple of dances.
*The group of them smile and nod. A few hugs exchanged as they head over to the pavilion. It was decorated in lights as well. Lots of good food and music to be enjoyed. They partied the night away as Avery and Taylor were finally in a place that they had always dreamt to be in- married.*
Avery: I think it is time for the tossing of the bouquet… Taylor?
*The group of single ladies all gather as Taylor positions herself and throws the flowers over her shoulder. The woman scramble for it. Trixie dives for it but she stumbles over her heels as the bouquet just misses her hands and smacks Emma right in the face. Emma hadn’t even been trying. There are some muffled chuckles before Em hands it back to the disappointed Trixie. Taylor leans into Avery.*
Taylor: Technically Em caught that.
*Avery laughs*
Avery: Yeah. You are right.
*He kisses her cheek as the DJ puts on the first song of the night. A song that is special to them; a song that they had first danced to in the garage at his house. A makeshift first date for the both of them, it was something special that they had always remembered.*
Taylor: This song; Ave.
Avery: I know. I made sure.
*Taylor leaned her head on the shoulder of her husband as the two of them danced, celebrated, and enjoyed the night away. By the end of the night, a little blond girl was all tuckered out and a few of the guests may have had a few too many to drink. This was not some sort of grand event or an over the top; it was something small and informal. Just the way that they had both wanted it.*
Avery: I love you, Mrs. Miles.
Taylor: I love you too, Mr. Miles.

*Two days before the magical day, Avery Miles III is relaxing sitting on the back deck after hours. Both of the ladies are fast asleep. It was an odd situation; having to fight LJ who is not only like a brother to Avery, but a man that he won the NGW Tag Team Titles with as well as him houseguest. LJ was eventually going to get a place of his own, but the house that Taylor grew up in had more rooms then they could even remember at most times. Avery was set to face off against LJ; the last time that they faced off it was with Avery defeating Levi for the Marquee Championship*
Levi. My friend. My brother. It seems like we are here again. You and me; facing off. We both know how this goes. It’s all respect; but inside of the ring we are competitors. We can sit here and talk each other up until we're blue in the face This is simply going to be settled inside of the ring. We enter the match as brothers, and we leave as brothers.
Whoever wins, shakes the losers hand and we move forward.
Best of luck my friend.
*A voice calls from inside of the house. It is that of his then-girlfriend Taylor.*
Taylor: Come to bed, Ave. It’s late.
Avery: Okay babe. Coming.

Coming.
