The Instagram Live feed of Betsy Granger shows Betsy herself, her blonde hair pulled back in a neat ponytail and wearing a smart white business jacket, sitting behind a desk in what resembles an unorthodox news room. A screen is set up behind her to her left. Her pet robot dog, who she has named Barksicle, is roaming around the set, stopping every now and then to ask if he is a good boy. Betsy pets him fondly and reassures him that he most certainly is. The person recording signals and Betsy smiles into the camera.
Betsy Granger: “Welcome to the pilot episode of ‘Who Wants to Know?’ with I, your humble host, Betsy Granger! The most guaranteed source of information on Betsy, wrestling, space, and whatever else you might want my thoughts on.”
Picking up a stack of papers from her desk and shuffles through them, reading the first of the submissions.
Betsy Granger: “Ideally, I’d like this to reach throughout the galaxy. Many other off planet species have been curious about what I do here on Earth. It may take a while for this show to reach them, but for those that are here… Let’s get this party started, shall we?”
She randomly plucks a question from the stack in front of her.
Betsy Granger: “This first one comes to us from Karl in Shreveport. He says ‘Hiya, Betsy! Big fan, enjoy watching you wrestle and play for the Frost. My question for you is about your debut in NGW. They’re throwing you into a title match for the Five Lakes Championship against some really choice talent, many of them established in the NGW ranks. What are you doing to train and deal with the pressure of such a daunting debut?’”
Crumpling up the question, she taps her fingers on the desk before sitting back in her chair.
Betsy Granger: “I train every day, from dawn to dusk with Jaime Alejandro, so I’ll let you take a guess at how I’m training and preparing. It’s true, the pressure is definitely on… But it’s not the first time I’ve had a debut that’s involved a title shot. I could go on from here and dissect every opponent, but I don’t have that kind of time and I don’t think anyone watching has that kind of attention span. We all know who’s in it… This won’t be easy by any stretch of the imagination. But I’ll do what I always do: Fight for my life, kick some booty, have some fun, and show the world what I’m capable of.”
Barksicle approaches her at this point. Betsy holds out the scraps of papers with the questions on them and Barksicle touches his nose to one. With an affectionate pat on the head, Betsy reads out the question.
Betsy Granger: “This one comes from Eileen in Des Moines. She says “Hello, home state bad-ass! I was wondering if having so many opponents in your debut has you nervous? You’ve been in a lot of tournaments, but never an elimination match. A lot is at stake.”
Betsy grins.
Betsy Granger: “Of course I’m nervous… And excited. Add a touch of fear and a cup of determination. I’d love to walk out the new Five Lakes Champion, of course. I’ll honestly be happy if I manage to eliminate anyone, though. I plan to turn heads and put Betsy Granger on the map this weekend. They’ve heard the name… Now it’s time to see what all the fuss is about. Nervous? Absolutely. But nerves aren’t going to stop me from showing off the skills.”
The next question she reads makes her smirk. She looks up into the camera and shakes her head with an amused look on her face.
Betsy Granger: “This one is from ‘Some guy who is definitely NOT Billy Danielson. He wants to know how having Billy as one of my opponents in this match will affect our chances at building a relationship.”
Snorting dirissively, Betsy sets the paper down and leans forward, folding her hands over the desk and looking as professional as possible.
Betsy Granger: “If you were pertaining to a friendly relationship, then I should hope not. I’ve faced off against friends before, I’ll be doing in it many more times before the end of my career. As a bonus, if I face off against my friends, no matter who wins, I always take them out for ice cream afterwards. As a sign that we’re still friends. If you mean a romance… You either don’t know very much about me yet or don’t pay attention very well. I’m happily taken by a rather remarkable man by the name of Jon Smithee. He’s more than a man… But that’s not the point. So getting back to the point, the match wouldn’t interfere with a romantic relationship… My relationship with someone else would. Moving on… We have one more.”
She scans it quickly and giggles.
Betsy Granger: “Our last question for our pilot episode comes from Danny MacNamara. Hey, I know that name. He asks…”
She giggles again for several moments, taking a deep breath to compose herself.
Betsy Granger: “Betsy, you claim to be thicc, but can you drop down low and sweep the floor with it?”
Setting the card down, Betsy rises from her seat and walks around to the front of the desk. Those watching now see that she’s wearing a tiny white skirt and gold Roman style sandals. She motions for someone off camera and music begins to play. With natural grace and rhythm, Betsy shows that she can, indeed, drop down low and sweep the floor with it. With her trademark mischievous grin, she gracefully rises back up and dabs. She lets her hands fall and bows gracefully.
Betsy Granger: “To those of you who joined me, thank you so much! Spread the word about this little venture to your friends and help us expand our numbers for episode two, coming to you next week! Remember to submit your questions about anything and I’ll pick them at random! This has been “Who Wants to Know?” with Betsy Granger. Have a glorious night and remember: Your destiny is never out of your grasp, just reach out and grab the stars!”
Betsy waves and starts dancing again. Barksicle joins her and spins around in circles, robotic ears twitching excitedly. The image fades as the music continues to play, the credits sweeping across the screen against a colorful background.
