Early Wednesday morning after the babies were born, Avery and Serenity are talking as the babies were asleep in the hospital crib. Aurora and Damon just stepped out to get something to eat as they had spent plenty of time with the newborns.
A light knock is heard on the door, followed by a slow pushing of the door. Dead Eye pokes his head around the edge of the door and whispers.
Dead Eye: Okay to come in?
Avery looks up.
Avery: Hey man.
He whispers as Avery waves CJ in. He puts a finger over his lips indicating the babies were asleep. He tiptoes in with Cheyenne Rae in-tow, holding his hand and walking slowly with him. He releases Chey's hand and bro hugs Avery. He continues to whisper.
CJ: We been here…just wanted to give Damon and Aurora their time. How's it going so far?
Avery: Good. Good. Babies are doing good.
Serenity: Thank you for coming, CJ and Chey.
Serenity, exhausted, tries to sit up as Avery helps her.
Avery: Take it easy, angel.
CJ: Calm down, there, Superwoman.
Serenity gives CJ a look. He ducks and hides behind Chey.
Chey: Oh, no, sir. You ain't ducking behind me.
She steps forward and goes to the side of Serenity opposite Avery.
Chey: How you holding up, Mama?
Serenity says with a low tone.
Serenity: Tired. Exhausted.
Avery: She was in labor for awhile. But she did good.
He reaches out and takes her hand.
Avery: She did proud. You two want to see the twins? They are sleeping but you can look.
Chey: Oh, yes, please.
CJ: Absolutely. You can expect about sixteen hours of that most days, if you're lucky. I figured there was a chance that'd be the case. I'll get the shot to spoil ‘em soon enough.
He grins.
CJ: Congrats, by the way. I'm proud of both of you. Avery, you managed to not have her kill you in the delivery room, and Serenity for pushing two kids out of yourself without killing anyone.
He smirks. He gets a slap on his arm by Chey. Serenity laughs.
Avery: Boy did she have some words.
Serenity turns red, obviously not her finest moment.
Avery: But we got here nonetheless. So… you two like the idea of kids? Something you talk about for the future? I mean, making them is more than half the fun.
Serenity looks up to Avery with a “really?” look. She would have a smartass comment to make, but she was tired for sure.
At this moment, CJ turns red and is a bit speechless. Chey smiles.
Chey: I've definitely thought about it. We haven't really talked about it much, but it's something I'd like.
She sheepishly turns to CJ to take a peek at the look on his face.
CJ: I've always wanted to be a father. I guess the time has never been right for that.
He shrugs. Chey walks over and wraps her arms around him.
CJ: But, Serenity… No need to be embarrassed. That epidural is the big dog. I've heard some stories about the words women say and things they do on that stuff. My cousin literally broke her husband's hand when they had their first.
He makes a pained look. Avery grasps his hand.
Avery: Thank God that did not happen.
He scoots a chair over towards them.
Avery: Sit. Please. Hang out for a bit. We could use the company for a little.
Serenity smiles and nods, as she glows a bit.
Serenity: You both are family.
CJ and Chey both smile.
CJ: I feel blessed to be considered that. I'm so grateful for both of you. Well, I guess I should say all four of you now.
He grabs a seat on the couch provided in post-partum rooms. He pats the seat next to him to invite Chey.
Chey: That means a lot to me that you guys feel that way, considering you haven't known me that long.
CJ: It's the CJ Effect, babe. You can't take credit for that.
She gives him a look.
CJ: I'm messin. Anyway, let's hang. I think we could all use the time. We been all quite busy, and you guys will be even more so soon.
Chey: I'm sure you will both be great parents.
Avery gives Serenity's hand a light squeeze and offers Cheyenne a smile.
CJ: Yeah, I agree. You two are certainly made for each other, and we'll definitely be around for whatever you guys need. You need a date night, we'll offer our services… Or if you just need some rest.
CJ beats his chest lightly.
CJ: Family.
Friday morning, a knock at the door frame as Keiji Sugiwara and Tone Aurelio stepped into the hospital room of Avery and Serenity Miles.
Avery: Hey you two. Come on in. He wondered when you both would come.
Keiji enters and grins towards Avery and Serenity.
Keiji: I'm here to deliver a baby, it's cool though. Seen this done on Chicago Baby Delivery. I'm what you might call a pro now.
Keiji says jokingly.
Tone: Ignore him. Two many cups of coffee. He gets all hyped up. How are you doing Serenity?
She smiles.
Serenity: Good. Just tired.
Tone: And the babies?
Avery: Jacoby and Journey are doing great.
Tone: Awesome.
Keiji: You mean I wore this lab coat for no reason then? Guess I'll just leave it here, Dr...Cook will likely want it back. Anywho, how was the delivery? Good I hope.
Avery: She did well. I was proud of her.
She blushes a bit.
Avery: Come on. Come and see the babies.
Serenity was holding both as Tone approached.
Tone: Wow. They are so cute. So most definitely Serenity's kids.
He laughs.
Keiji: Tiny humans, was one of those myself once.
He chuckles.
Keiji: Seriously though, so happy for the two of you. Now the fun part begins, hashtag parent life. You two ready for that?
Serenity: I think we are. Might need to get used to it for a while.
Avery: Well, we had two built in babysitters.
Tone looks over to Keiji as he did not know what to say.
Avery and Serenity were taking in visitors every so often to see the twins. Avery held his little girl, Journey, as Serenity was holding Jacoby. They hear someone approaching as Avery looks towards the doorway.
Voice: Safe for me to come in?
The voice was one Avery and Serenity were able to quickly recognize. It was the voice of the Dropkick King himself, Adrien Cochrane. The New Orleans native pokes is head in the door as he inquires permission to enter the room
Avery: Yeah, come on in, man.
Adrien slowly enters the room. He’s wearing a Mumford and Sons t-shirt and a pair of jeans. With it being fairly late at night, the sunglasses are nowhere to be found on him.
Adrien: I got over here as soon as I heard this was happening. Thankfully, New Orleans to Atlanta isn’t a very long flight.
Adrien pats Avery on the shoulder.
Adrien: Congratulations, guys.
Avery nods.
Avery: Thanks, Adrien. I am glad to have you here. The both of us are.
Serenity: Thank you Adrien. You didn’t need to rush but thank you.
Serenity smiles, as she looks down at her son.
Serenity: You want to hold one?
Adrien was used to holding Klaus. He gently holds one of them.
Adrien: Which one is this one?
Adrien smiles as he looks into the newborn’s closed eyes.
Avery: Well it is a blue blanket… so I will let you guess.
Avery shakes his head and laughs.
Adrien glances and looks at the pink blanket on the other twin.
Adrien: Oh hey there, little Avery? Are we going to call him Numero Quatro or some nickname to avoid confusion or anything?
Adrien remembers calling his oldest brother Jay to avoid this problem since he shares a name with his father. Avery had a good laugh at that one.
Avery: Jacoby. It is his middle name, actually. That is why my dad is Joe. I just was always Little Avery, and the Avery part stuck.
This was one of the reasons Adrien was glad he never got stuck with Ludie IV and his brother was. And why there won’t be an Adrien Junior.
Adrien: Well, Jacoby...you got yourself some awesome parents here. They’re gonna take good care of you.
He hands Avery back his newborn son. Avery held Journey in one hand and took Jacoby in the other.
Avery: Want to hold her, also?
Adrien: Sure thing!
Adrien takes Journey into his arms as he did her brother.
Adrien: I mean, I could say the same thing I just told your brother, but you would probably think I’m just recycling old material now, wouldn’t you?
The newborn’s eyes open for a brief second before closing again.
Serenity: Makes you want to have one of your own one day I am sure.
Serenity was watching Adrien with her daughter. He was already good with babies.
Serenity: Everalda and Klaus couldn’t make it? That is a shame.
Adrien: About that...doesn’t actually know I had to dip out to see you guys. I’m probably going to be on a plane in a couple of hours to get back home. Kinda having all the Guardians over for...well...I’m planning on disbanding the group since we’re not really needed anymore…
Avery: Hey, you got here to see us. We appreciate that. Sit down, relax for a few minutes.
Avery stands up handing Jacoby back to Serenity.
Avery: You are family, too.
Adrien nods before taking a seat.
Adrien: Alright. For a little while at least.
Serenity was laying in the bed, while Avery was sitting in a chair. The twins were sound asleep in their arms, Serenity with Journey, and Avery with Jacoby. The door opens, as RC and Daisy walk in. RC was carrying their daughter Kathleen.
Serenity: Hey guys, glad you could come.
Daisy: We wouldn’t miss it for the world. Glad to see you are in good spirits.
Daisy walks over, looking at the twins, in their arms. RC follows, with Kathleen trying to get out of his arms.
Kathleen: BABY!!!!
RC: Princess you can’t get loud. You will make the babies cry.
Kathleen looks down. Daisy shakes her head lightly.
Daisy: Can I hold one?
Avery: Sure, here you can take Jacoby.
Daisy walks over, taking him from Avery, looking down. She smiles while holding him. She looks over at RC.
Daisy: I remember when Kathleen was this small.
RC: I do too my love.
RC could tell she wanted another one the moment she seen the babies. He shakes his head.
Serenity: Avery, why don’t you, and RC go down, and get yourselves something to drink. Let Daisy, and I talk some.
Avery: Sure, come on RC.
RC looks at Kathleen.
RC: You want to stay here with Mommy?
Kathleen: Yes.
RC sets her down, before he walks out of the room with Avery. Kathleen walks over slightly, while looking at Daisy holding Jacoby. Daisy sits down, with Kathleen walking up to her Mom.
Kathleen: Baby…
Daisy: Yes Princess it’s a baby. It’s Jacoby.
Kathleen keeps looking, not sure what to do. Serenity smiles, as she is watching. She was enjoying the scene. The two keeps watching Kathleen who keeps looking at Jacoby, as they talk a little bit. The boys eventually come back, as all sit down, and talk.
