Avery: Keep pushing baby. You are almost there.
Avery holds the hand of Serenity. It was just after midnight, so the due date of the 13th would be the twins birthday.
Avery: Breath, angel. You are almost there.
Serenity looks at him as she gives him a dirty look, while squeezing his hand even harder.
Serenity: I am fucking breathing.
She couldn’t help but to snap at him. Avery knows that she was in pain and ready to just give birth.
Avery: In. In. Out. Out. You got this babe.
Nurse: Okay Serenity, we are going to have you push again.
Serenity: Just get it out of me.
She screamed out, as she didn’t know which one was first, so called the baby an it. She goes to push again, wanting the baby to be born. As she pushes, Avery stays what he calls “above the Equator”.
Nurse: Baby number one is….. Here!
A baby crying is heard.
Nurse: We have a girl!
Avery: Journey is here first, angel.
He runs Serenity’s shoulder.
Serenity: Good, now get the other one out.. No talking.
She was wanting to get it over with, and to get the pain done with. She was hating it, and just wanted to hold her babies.
Avery looks at the clock. Journey was born at 12:34am.
Nurse: Okay we are going to need another big push, momma.
Avery: You hear them, Serenity? You can do it.
She nods her head, while she gives another big push. She screams out as she does, while you could hear Journey crying, while being cleaned off.
Serenity: Never fucking touching me again you dick.
Avery knows it is the pain hitting her. She was related to Melina, that was for sure.
Avery: Uh huh, I love you, too.
A doctor looks up at Avery.
Avery: I’ve heard worse.
Nurse: Okay. We are almost there. One more BIG BIG push should do it.
Avery: Okay, Serenity. One more and this should all be over. You with me, baby?
Serenity: What does it look like, course I’m with you.
She snaps at him, as she looks at him, glaring. She was blaming him for the pain. She gives one more big push, hoping it would work. And it does. They hear the crying.
Nurse: And baby boy Miles is born…
Avery checks the time. 12:37am.
Avery: Avery Jacoby.
He smiles, looking at Serenity. She lays back against the pillow, as she starts to cry hard. She couldn’t believe it was done and over with now. She looks at Avery.
Serenity: I want to see them.
Avery sees them check on the babies.
Nurse: Just one moment. We are checking their vitals and weighing them.
Avery: One minute babe.
He squeezes and rubs Serenity’s hand.
Avery: I love you.
Serenity: I love you too Devil.
She looks at him, before looking to see if they were bringing the babies yet. The nurse brings the babies, as Avery makes sure that Serenity is the first one to hold them.
Nurse: Here you go, mommy.
Avery leans down and kisses the forehead of Serenity, as the family of four were all together.
Damon and Aurora Graves make their way down the hallway, passing by the nursery window. A crowd of people can be seen gathered there, peering at the new arrivals. As they continue onward, Damon readjusts the gifts he’s carrying; a gift basket and a pink and blue gift bag that reads “TWINS!” in alternating pink and blue print. He shoots one quick glance back at the nursery window.
Damon: Think they’re in there?
Aurora shakes her head.
Aurora: No... they’re in with Serenity and Avery. Say... do you think we should stick around for a while, in case they need any help getting everyone settled in once they get released?
Damon: If I didn’t have a full day booked at the shop once we get back, I’d say yeah. But then again, I’m pretty sure they’ve got plenty of people out here already to help out.
Aurora: I suppose you’re right. Still, maybe we could come back out this weekend, see if they need any extra help then?
Damon: That wouldn’t be a bad idea, Harley. After all, Alicia did say that we could use her jet any time we needed it. And being a mom of twins herself, she knows all too well what Avery and Serenity have to look forward to.
Aurora nods her head, then turns her attention to her cell phone, the tip of her tongue sticking out of her mouth as she rapidly taps her fingers against the screen. He looks over and notices that she’s firing off a text to her mother.
Damon: Harley, would you put your phone away already?
Aurora: I can’t help it, Puddin’! I just can’t wait to see our new godchildren; that’s all. It reminds me of when Yssie was born.
Damon: That reminds me. Good of your mom to come along to watch her while we came to the hospital.
Aurora: Yeah. Made it that much easier to make the mad dash from the airport to the hospital, that’s for sure!
Damon: Which room did they say they were in?
Aurora looks at the numbers on the wall beside each doorway that they pass. Finally, she stops, which halts Damon in his tracks as well.
Aurora: Here it is.
Her voice lowers into a whisper.
Aurora: We should keep it down, in case the babies are sleeping.
With a smile, Aurora lightly knocks on the door.
Aurora: Knock, knock...
Avery: Come on in.
He whispers, waving them in. Serenity was awake and holding the twins. She had just given birth and was bonding with the twins.
Avery: Hey you, two. You got here fast. Been waiting outside for them?
Serenity looks up at them, as she smiles.
Serenity: I’m glad you guys got here. Do you want to see your god babies?
Damon: Of course we do!
Aurora lets out a quiet squeal of delight.
Damon: (to Serenity) She let out the same squeal when she first got to hold Ysera….
Avery: Well come on in.
Avery stands up giving Aurora the closest chair to Serenity. He looks over to Damon and they bump fists.
Avery: Glad you could come, man. We appreciate it.
Damon: Of course, man. We dropped everything the second we heard...
Serenity looks at Aurora as she smiles.
Serenity: Which one would you like to hold first?
Aurora: Surprise me! I can’t play favorites with my god babies….
Damon: If she could, she’d probably try to snuggle with both of them at once…
Avery laughs.
Aurora reaches over, carefully lifting Jacoby into her arms. She looks down at him and smiles.
Aurora: He’s so cute! They both are!
Avery: Where is your little one? Got a babysitter this late?
Damon: Aurora’s mom is watching her. As if she needed an excuse to spend time with her granddaughter...
Aurora: We gave my mom a heads up; told her we may need to borrow her for a last-minute trip. She understands all too well.
Damon: And her dad gets a grandchild to spoil...
Avery smiles.
Avery: Good. Means a lot the both of you being here. Serenity was none-too-pleased during labor. So you get the angel version of her once again.
He laughs as Serenity sticks her tongue out at him.
Damon: I’ve heard some of the horror stories of when our manager had her twins… she drew blood…
Aurora giggles.
Aurora: Anyway, we brought presents. Puddin’, you wanna do the honors?
Damon: Here you go, man…
He hands the basket and gift bag to Avery. Avery opens it and smirks. He says nothing, but pulls them out to show Serenity.
Avery: You two… you are great. Thanks.
Damon: We figured you’d get a chuckle out of them…..
Serenity: I do like the Team Rocket outfits. We will have to make sure they wear them a lot around certain people on NGW roster.
She laughs lightly, while looking at Damon.
Serenity: You want to hold Journey?
Damon: Definitely….
Damon leans down and carefully folds Journey into his arms, smiling warmly at her.
Damon: Hey there, honey pie…..
Aurora looks over at Damon and smiles.
Aurora: Awwww…..
Damon: Can’t wait for Ysera to meet Journey and Jacoby… probably gonna be best friends for life…
Avery: Jacoby better protect both of his sisters.
He smiles.
Aurora: I’m sure he will.
Avery: Mind if you two keep her company for a few? I want to make a few phone calls.
Serenity looks over at Avery wondering who he was going to be calling. Aurora looks on with a puzzled expression on her face. She shrugs, then resumes smiling.
Aurora: Not a problem at all!
Avery steps out to send out a tweet about the babies. He calls Sawyer and Annabelle to let them know. As well as his parents. Not for too long, he steps back into the room and enjoys time watching Aurora fawn over her godbabies.
A few hours after Serenity has given birth, there is a light knock at the door. Avery looks up and it is Sawyer and Annabelle. He waves them in as Serenity was sleeping for the moment. The twins were being held by him.
Avery: Come on in.
Annabelle heads in first.
Annabelle: How’s the new Mommy and Daddy doing?
Annabelle notices that Serenity was sleeping. She walks over to see the twins smiling. She looks at Sawyer.
Annabelle: They are so cute Ave.
Avery: We are good. She is exhausted. They were born just after midnight. Want to hold?
Avery looks up to her, Sawyer looked like a deer in headlights.
Annabelle: I do, it is one thing I have talked about since you told us.
She looks at Avery, noticing the way he looked.
Annabelle: I think someone is nervous, and scared. He needs to get over that.
Avery: Especially if he is going to have one.. Or two.. Or seven.
Sawyer: One or two.
Avery smiles as he offers Annabelle to hold Journey.
Avery: Baby girl J. Have at it, Annie.
Annie takes Journey from Avery, looking down at her. She smiles lightly.
Annabelle: Yes Sawyer, you never know, we could have more than one. We will be fine no matter how many we have.
Annabelle walks over to a chair in the room, as she sits down. She knew her eyes were lit up smiling almost. Serenity starts to quietly wake up.
Avery: Good morning momma.
Avery whispers. Sawyer stands at the foot of the bed.
Avery: Sit down Sawyer. Take Jacoby.
Sawyer turns white.
Annabelle: Sawyer are you alright?
Annabelle had noticed, along with Serenity.
Serenity: If you need to, please sit down Sawyer. You’re not looking too well.
Sawyer, being the silent type, nods and sits down in a free chair.
Avery: You two will be experiencing this soon…
He smiles.
Avery: You are a natural Annie.
Annabelle: It is good I am. This just feels right holding a baby.
She was smiling, while she looks down at Journey watching her sleeping. She was hoping Sawyer would hold one soon.
Annabelle: Just try to hold one Sawyer, you will find you will like it.
Sawyer waits as Avery stands up. He hands Jacoby to Sawyer as he shows his friend how to cradle a newborn.
Avery: It takes a few minutes, but you will get used to it.
Sawyer: He’s so… small.
Avery: Well to be honest, you not a small dude by any means.
He was over six foot tall.
Annabelle: See, holding a baby isn’t so bad. We should get in as much practice as we can.
She was smiling at him, as she gets an idea.
Annabelle: You should be taking pictures Ave.
Avery: Oh, okay.
Avery reaches for his phone on the table next to him.
Avery: Scoot your chairs together.
They scoot their chairs together. Once they were, they lean in, as they look towards Avery.
Annabelle: All set.
She smiles wide. Avery holds up the phone and snaps a couple of pictures of them.
Avery: There.
Serenity was watching them, as she yawns softly.
Serenity: You two look great holding babies. I think I am still a bit tired.
Annabelle looks towards her.
Annabelle: You do look tired. Get some rest Mommy.
The nurse walks in.
Nurse: Okay. Time for checking on the little ones.
Sawyer: I think that is our cue.
Annabelle and Sawyer hand the twins off to the nurse.
Avery: Thanks you two for visiting us.
He stands up and hugs the both of them.
Avery: We love you.
Annabelle: We love you too Ave, and Serenity. The twins are cute. Congrats on them.
Annabelle meant it, as she looks at the two, before at her husband. They head out of the room as Avery checks on Serenity and gives her a kiss before she dozes back off.
The next day, they see balloons enter the room.
Avery: Uh oh. Trouble is here.
Avery’s mom and dad arrive.
Katherine: Hey hey, new parents. Where are my grandbabies?
Serenity smiles, as she sits up in bed slowly. She was still sore, as she looks towards Avery.
Serenity: Avery you can go let the nurse know we have visitors. They are checking them over again.
She did have to laugh at him calling them trouble.
Katherine: Yeah, Avery… go get my little babies!
Avery shakes his head and heads out as Katherine and Joe have seats.
Katherine: How are you doing, dear?
She puts her hand to the head of Serenity being a mom.
Serenity: I am still sore, but I am fine. Just enjoying my time with the twins, making sure I learn enough from the nurses to not mess up when I feed them, bathe them, and burp them.
She looks from Katherine, to Joe.
Serenity: How does it feel to finally be grandparents?
Katherine: AMAZING!
Joe just laughs. The nurse and Avery walk in with the twins.
Katherine: Gimme gimme gimme.
Avery gives Serenity a “Are you okay?” sort of look.
Serenity nods her head yes. She was fine.
Serenity: Make sure you got tons of pictures of your parents with the twins Ave.
She could see Katherine was really excited, which made her heart smile. Katherine takes both babies without an issue and holds them up. Immediately she starts to baby talk.
Avery: Geeze, she is sure excited.
Avery laughs.
Joe: I am not sure who is happier, her or you two.
Katherine: They are just jealous. Yes they are. Uh huh. The three of us are going to get into lots and lots of trouble.
Serenity: Trouble? What kind of trouble Mom?
Serenity wasn’t sure she wanted to know. She was nervous about that. She glances towards Avery.
Katherine: Relax, mommy. Just going to spoil my new babies and have lots of grandma and grandbaby time.
Avery: It’s okay, angel. She did raise me.
Serenity: I know she raised you, but there is a big difference between a son, and grandbabies.
Serenity laughs lightly, while leaning back on the bed some.
Serenity: Why do I have a feeling you will want them at least once a week overnight once they are older?
Katherine: Once a week?
Joe: Katherine.
Katherine: We are joking.
Katherine bounces the twins a bit.
Katherine: We are joking.
She whispers.
Katherine: Not really.
Avery laughs.
Joe: You two doing okay though? Need anything from home?
Avery: I think we got it all. We had the bag from home, we were prepared.
Joe: You need anything, we can help.
Avery nods.
Serenity: If we need anything we will call you guys, or Annabelle, and Sawyer. Even CJ, or any of our other friends who are around.
Serenity was glad Joe was asking, as it showed he cared, and wanted to help. She looks over to Avery.
Serenity: You may need to take Avery home at some point. I have a feeling he won’t want to leave our side.
She laughs lightly, joking with Avery.
Avery: I am going nowhere, thank you.
Joe: I understand that.
Katherine just blurts out.
Katherine: How is breast feeding going?
Avery: MOM!
Joe: KATHERINE!
Katherine: What?
Serenity blushes, as she didn’t know how to answer that, or if she should.
Serenity: I.. umm.. Mom, it’s.. Going alright.
She was hoping Katherine didn’t ask anymore.
Katherine: Good. Make sure to do it as it helps between the mom and babies. I breastfed Avery until my nipples hurt. He was not an easy eater.
Avery: MOM!
Joe: KATHERINE!
Katherine: What?
Serenity was turning even more red. She goes to pull the blanket up over her head to hide. She didn’t know what to say.
Katherine: Oh honey, I’ll stop.
Avery: Thanks mom and dad, we appreciate you being here.
Joe: We love you both.
Avery sits next to Serenity as they love how their family was growing.
Friday morning, Stacy and Robbie arrive to the hospital. Robbie got them little teddy bears; one blue and one pink.
Robbie: Do you think they remember me?
Stacy looks at Robbie, as she nods her head.
Stacy: I am sure they do Robbie. You are not that forgettable. Besides, they will now have a cousin in law who shares their kids birthday.
Robbie: Yes they do. Wait… me?
He looks at her and jokes.
Robbie: Think they will like these bears?
He holds them up to her as they continue to walk down the hall.
Stacy: They will. Just relax Robbie. No need to be all nervous like you are.
She could tell he was. He nods.
Robbie: This is the room, right?
He checks the room number.
Stacy: Yeah it is. I hope the babies are in there. Let’s go.
She knocks on the door lightly, as she hears Serenity call out quietly to enter. Stacy opens the door, as they enter.
Stacy: Hey Serenity, Avery. Congrats you guys.
Avery: Hey!
Avery stands up and immediately moves over to hug Stacy.
Robbie: Hey.. uh… Avery?
Avery: We are family, sorta. Right?
Stacy shows her engagement ring.
Avery: Well get over here.
Avery hugs Robbie.
Avery: We are huggers!
Stacy was laughing softly. She glances at Robbie, before moving to Serenity’s bed as she gives her a hug. She looks over, as she sees the twins sleeping in their hospital crib. She places a hand on the edge of Journey’s.
Stacy: They are so cute.
Avery: You can hold them. I mean, I am sure you and Robbie-
Before he finished the sentence, Robbie turned a bit white.
Avery: Want to have them one day.
Serenity notices as she laughs lightly.
Serenity: Avery I think you spooked the boy. Why would you do that.
Stacy picks up Jacoby, before walking over to Robbie. Avery laughs.
Stacy: Look Sweetie, it’s Jacoby, isn’t he so cute.
Robbie: Wow. They are sure little. I mean, Austen is SHORT but you know?
He laughs at his own terrible joke.
Robbie: Wow. That is amazing.
Stacy: Like you have room to talk Dear.
Stacy goes to hand Jacoby over.
Stacy: Here take him.
Robbie: Wait… me?
Avery: Yeah man. You gotta learn. If you two are going to visit at least and babysit.
Avery tries to already con them into babysitting.
Stacy: We would love to. Robbie best way to get into it, is to dive right in. Once you are holding him, you will realize it is all fine.
Robbie reaches out and takes Jacoby.
Avery: Like this… cradle the head.
Avery shows him.
Robbie: Oh… okay….
Stacy watches, as she was enjoying what she was seeing. She walks over, sitting down next to Serenity on the bed.
Stacy: Look at them, they look adorable with the babies.
Serenity: They do. Avery has been great so far with the twins.
Avery: I can hear you, both.
Robbie: This is crazy man. Like… they are just so…. Wow.
Avery puts his arm around Robbie’s back.
Avery: I know, man. I know.
