OFF CAM
Out to dinner to celebrate the engagement of his cousin, Robbie, and Robbie’s girlfriend, Stacy, we see Austen and Mercedes Blackwell sitting at a table in a steakhouse. They both sit on the same side of the booth, waiting for Robbie and Stacy to arrive. Austen slips a lemonade as Mercedes has a Daiquiri in front of her.
Austen: Fruity burps?
Mercedes: Yeah… it’s a celebration. Do you blame me?
She looks at him, smiling as she does. He laughs as Stacy and Robbie head towards their table. His shirt was buttoned wrong and her hair was a little messy. They are giggling as he helps her into the booth, and slides in after her.
Austen: Running a little late…
Stacy turns a bit red.
Robbie: Traffic. You know?
Austen: Traffic also mess up your shirt…
Robbie realizes and quickly fixes his shirt.
Mercedes: I think it messes up hair as well.
Stacy blushes even more, as she tries fixing her hair.
Stacy: I yeah, you know windows down, wind blowing, and all.
Robbie chuckles as they knew they were caught.
Austen: You two lovebirds ready to order?
Robbie: Yeah. I am hungry.
Stacy: I’m so hungry I could eat a horse.
Austen: Worked up an appetite, huh?
Mercedes: I would say they did, must have been really good.
The waiter comes over.
Waiter: Ready to order?
Austen: Robbie? Stacy?
Robbie: Hell yeah. Can I get a Coke? And I will have the 12 ounce New York Strip. Medium rare. Mashed and broccoli.
Waiter: And you, miss?
He looks to Stacy.
Stacy: I will have a rib eye medium rare with mashed and broccoli as well. Plus a diet coke. Thank you.
Stacy smiles, before looking to Austen and Mercedes.
Austen: The filer. Medium. Rice pilaf please.
Waiter: And you?
He looks at Mercedes. Mercedes thinks before smiling.
Mercedes: Unlike them, the baked chicken, with a baked potato loaded with sour cream and butter.
She glances at Austen, as she sees the waiter write it down. Austen gathers the menus and passes them off as the waiter disappears.
Austen: So.. Mercedes wanted to get us four together to celebrate. You two getting engaged. Congrats.
Robbie smiles.
Robbie: Thanks, AB.
Stacy: Thank you AB.
Austen: Have you both thought out a date? Or venue?
Stacy looks at Robbie, as she shakes her head no.
Stacy: Nope, we are just enjoying it, being engaged. Maybe we will soon enough. What do you think Robbie?
Robbie: That is up to you to pick. I did my part. I proposed.
He laughs, obviously joking as their drinks arrived.
Robbie: Thanks.
He says to the waiter.
Mercedes: Well what about Bridesmaids? I know you have your cousins, plus myself. Have you thought about that?
Stacy looks down, as she hadn’t.
Stacy: I… no. Dang it, I need to plan. I know I want to get married in the fall. It is a nice time, and not too hot.
Robbie: That works for me, babe.
The waiter brings some bread as Robbie grabs it and starts to dig in already. Austen lets out a laugh.
Austen: Fall sounds nice.
Stacy: It does. Robbie you sure you are alright?
Mercedes grabs a piece bread.
Mercedes: Gives you plenty of time to plan.
Robbie swallows a big bite of the bread.
Robbie: Yeah. All good.
Their food arrives.
Robbie: Yes! So hungry!
Austen leans over to Mercedes.
Austen: Is he high?
Mercedes shrugs her shoulders.
Mercedes: I don’t know. Does he even get high? He is your cousin.
Stacy shakes her head while laughing.
Stacy: He is just hungry. He is a growing boy.
Austen: Are you high too, Stacy?
Robbie chuckles more as he starts to dig into his food immediately.
Stacy: Nope, why?
She would look at him, as she was confused. She wasn’t sure why he asked that.
Austen: Nothing. Nothing.
He laughs as he shakes his head. They start to eat their dinner together in celebration of the big news.
