Inside of their Oceanside, California home, Austen Blackwell is outside in the pool area. An avid swimmer, he likes to swim laps back and forth to get his head straight. He did this especially the days before a show. Mercedes knew his routine, but the match with Jimmy Pagan was weighing heavily on her mind. She headed out the sliding glass doors as she tried to get his attention.
Mercedes: Hey AB, got a minute?
She calls out to him, as she gets closer to the pool. He does not hear her or notice her. He continues swimming laps. Down. And back. Down. And back. She looks around, spotting a ball. She picks it up, throwing it, hitting him in the back.
Mercedes: AB!!!
He feels the ball and stops. He bobs in the water and rubs his eyes looking up at her.
Austen: Sorry sweetheart, I was in the zone. What’s up?
He swims over towards the edge of the pool where she stood. He had his swim trunks on, some goggles, and no shirt.
Mercedes: I can tell. Are you really sure about this match babe?
Mercedes gets down, looking at him. He is caught off guard.
Austen: With Sela? What?
He was confused.
Mercedes: No with Jimmy Pagan.
Austen: What do you mean? Do you remember what he did to me? To others?
He pulls himself out of the pool and sits on the edge, water pouring off of him onto the cement and back into the pool.
Mercedes: I do remember, but I am nervous because it is a street fight match. Anything can happen.
Mercedes looks at him, showing concern for things. Austen could tell that she was worried.
Austen: I know that I am not the biggest dude. I am not some overly macho guy. I know that I do not intimidate others. Mercedes, when I put my mind to something.. When I really focus… I achieve it. Pagan… what he did… it was not cool. He screwed with me, and everyone. And even a part of me feels for Julianna. Yeah, weird, right?
She looks at him shocked at that. She was not expecting him to feel for Julianna a bit.
Austen: Yeah. This is on me to handle. I am going to come out of this hurt, maybe. Bloody, perhaps. But I am going to settle this. I am going to make a point of showing exactly what he deserves.
Mercedes: I hope you can, but what if you can’t? You could get hurt enough to not be able to wrestle again. Is that a risk you want?
Austen: There is no “can’t” here, Mercedes. I will beat him. Period.
Mercedes: Are you sure? I want you to, even if I can’t be biased about this.
She really didn’t want to be biased, but she really wanted him to win.
Austen: At my wife, trust me. As my boss, I will get the job done. I promise.
He reaches out to shake her hand. She reaches to shake it, as he pulls her into the pool. She lets out a loud scream, as she wasn’t expecting it. She pops up looking at him.
Mercedes: Just remember payback is a bitch.
Austen climbs up to his feet.
Austen: So is Julianna.
He laughs as he jumps into the pool and completely splashes her.
Standing outside of the San Jose McEnery Convention Center in San Jose, California, Austen Blackwell is dressed in a WCG t-shirt, jeans, and a fresh pair of white and red Jordans. He stands tall as he readies for his promo for West Coast Genesis’ latest episode of Hype.
Austen: There are many things that are floating around in the air. I have a match
He pauses.
Austen: No, I have a Street Fight against Jimmy Pagan at Crossroad: Spotlight. I am in contention for the Long Beach Championship, a title that I should have walked away from the arena with as the pin clearly was broke in my match against Remi Fontaine. And this weekend I am facing Sela-Rica Lark; one of the most…
He tries to find the words.
Austen: Unconventional people in this company. She is someone that has messed with the likes of Adam Sanders and Izzy Roxx. Having her own namesake of a match seemed to spell a loss, but it somehow seems like she doesn't mind at all. It is almost as if she just enjoys inflicting whatever pain she can on others. Or being on the receiving end herself. She is truly an interesting competitor. With Julianna DiMaria, she was a loud mouthed insult-throwing wrestler that did whatever it took to win. She would cheat if she absolutely had to. Or someone like Danielle Basch, she is going to win the right way. She is talented, and someone that can turn the momentum of a match in a split second. But Sela? She is a mystery. I do not believe that we have seen her at her best. I have this feeling that once she gets focused, she is going to be dangerous. Jimmy Pagan is the type of man that plays mind games. He screws with your head. He had everyone thinking that he was one man, while being Nite Stalker; and all along he was neither. He will play mind games. He even tricked his own girlfriend.
Austen steps in closer.
Austen: But Sela? Sela? She is a true kind of scary. She does not threat. She does not play mind games. She enjoys “playing”, or however she calls it. She is the sort of competitor that generally does things without regard to the risk. She is out for fun, and her fun is the dark side of things. Pain. Injuries. Hurt. She feeds off of that side of things. I have a lot riding on my upcoming matches, but I cannot look past her. I need to be ready as she could quickly flip the script on me. She is a scary entity; fear is more scary when it doesn’t need to try to be.
