Come up to meet you
Tell you I'm sorry
You don't know how lovely you are
I had to find you
Tell you I need you
Tell you I set you apart
Tell me your secrets
And ask me your questions
Oh, let's go back to the start
Running in circles
Coming up tails
Heads on a science apart
Nobody said it was easy
It's such a shame for us to part
Nobody said it was easy
No one ever said it would be this hard
Oh, take me back to the start
Date: Friday, June 15th, 2018
Cameras: ON
“Hey there, Izzy. It’s me, Eddie. I think you have a tendency to call me Vegeta, in case you forgot and are wondering who this Eddie Walker person is…”
The camera starts rolling. This isn’t your typical video that Adam Sanders has shot where either he or he and his manager, Eddie Walker. Not this time though. The only person that can be seen on the screen this time is Eddie, sitting behind his desk in his Slidell, Louisiana home. Adam Sanders is nowhere to be found.
“I know you’re probably wondering why it is me standing...errr, sitting before you on this camera. Obviously, not the first time I’ve stood in for him for one of these. But, yes...I’m in Louisiana, quite a distance from Adam in his San Diego apartment, probably eating a bucket of ice cream and watching yet another episode of Orange is the New Black.
“He asked me if I could do this one. And then he added if I could do this without him having to be around. I was perplexed at first. Perplexed enough to ask why he didn’t want to be involved in this video. Once he explained to me his thought process though, it made a bit of sense though.”
Walker stands up and begins to walk around the desk, revealing that he’s wearing regular Eddie attire: a t-shirt with an octopus on it and a pair of shorts. His dark hair is still spiked up, adding perhaps another three to four inches on his head.
“He’s not emotionally ready to really speak about you to a large number of people. Yes, I know what happened isn’t what you wanted either. It wasn’t easy for him, but I’m sure it was equally, if not harder, for you. I’m not going to discount that. I’m not going to belittle your feelings or try to make you out to be anything other than a person who was hurt by what happened.
“I will mention this though. You missed the warning signs. I’m not sure if you were oblivious or were outright ignoring them but they were there and you did nothing about it. You were so caught up in your own insecurities, that you didn’t see the power your words had. The effects your words had on Adam. Because every time you publicly declared that you could only manage to perform two-and-a-half moves, Adam would cringe. Every time you said that the championship you rightfully won in a title match wasn’t yours, it delivered a huge blow to Adam’s pride. When you kept ignoring the facts about your winning streak and kept talking about how much of a loser you are, imagine how that made Adam, who lost ten matches in a row, felt?
“You were so worried about how you felt that you ignored how he felt. And it’s not rocket science on how that was going to play out.”
Walker now sits on his desk before looking back up at the camera.
“You had a chance towards the end, honestly. He was making it very clear that this was making him unhappy. When you’re around so much negative energy, it can create a toxic atmosphere. And you were doing that to him. It was causing him to feel negative. And it was noticed by almost the entire West Coast Genesis locker room, which included Danielle, Tasmin, Remi, and Austen. Hell, Jessica Sears saw it. All of them had to try to perk him up over the words you were saying on Twitter. Hell, there was a televised portion of the last Unscripted where Austen had to try to drag him to some sort of party after the show because you had him so bummed. It’s a wonder he won his match against Shawn Young because his head was NOT in the game, I can assure you of that.
“He spent a lot of time trying to support you. He drove back and forth from the Hills and San Diego to bring you to and from class. He helped you with your homework when you needed it. He publicly spoke of your abilities in the ring with a higher regard than you ever did. He rushed the ring when it looked like you were going to be attacked. He wanted you to try to learn from Adrien, a high-flying wrestler with three World titles, to see if that would help your success rate with your finishing move. He helped you geek out over your favorite Pokémon, Bidoof, even asking me to try to make sure he made it to your official t-shirt at the merchandise booth. There was even that one time he drove you to and from a show right after WCG to the point of physical exhaustion. Because he cared THAT much about you. He loved you THAT much.
“What did you do for him in return? Kissed him when you felt like it? Claimed a match against Sela was for him and then complained endlessly when you didn’t? Tried to talk about how your title was his title even though he didn’t own it fairly anymore. The whole relationship became a lot more one-sided. And it was draining for young Adam. It was getting harder and harder for him to keep it going. And eventually...he just couldn’t keep dragging it himself.
“A lesser man would have given up earlier. Perhaps someone who had dated more than one person prior to this relationship and wasn’t trying to cling to the hope that things would change wouldn’t have held on for as long as he did.”
Finally, Eddie moves onto the topic on hand.
“This match...I’m not going to pretend like Adam is totally going to dominate you and embarrass you in the ring. Let’s be real, we can’t guarantee Adam will be in the mindset to be a very functional wrestler. I don’t know what kind of fight he’s going to have in him. Granted, one could say the same about you. You have one victory over Adam, Izzy. That is an advantage you have over him. You’re less likely to hesitate landing that finishing move now that he’s no longer your boyfriend.
“But what I expect is possibly more or less the same from you as I do from him. Regardless of what happened, you both still love one another. I know that. But I just want to drive home one simple fact, Izzy. And I say this perhaps a bit too blunt, but I really want you to benefit from it and think you can.
“The whole situation was something that you created. And now you have to deal with it.”
I was just guessing
At numbers and figures
Pulling the puzzles apart
Questions of science
Science and progress
Do not speak as loud as my heart
Tell me you love me
Come back and haunt me
Oh, and I rush to the start
Running in circles
Chasing our tails
Coming back as we are
Nobody said it was easy
Oh, it's such a shame for us to part
Nobody said it was easy
No one ever said it would be so hard
I'm going back to the start
