File 015: Perspective | 展望
“Jessica…?”
Softly, Everalda closes the door behind her and makes her way past the bathroom. She looks upon the entirety of the hotel room, in particular, Jessica passed out on the king size bed. She walks over to her baby sister, reaches out, and gently places her left hand on her forehead. No fever. Everalda’s eyes lull halfway as she draws her hand away.
‘My poor sister…’
Letting out a quiet sigh, she walks around the bed and makes her way out to the balcony, the afternoon sun basking over the city of Columbus. She closes the screen and glass doors behind her, then she pulls out her LG G6 from her purse, selects the camera, and switches it to record.
“I know this is a little different…”
Everalda takes a deep breath and lets it out slowly.
“You were expecting a video from Jessica, but right now my baby sister is asleep. She’s wrestled three matches in a row, two of them within twenty-four hours between Atlantic City and Tokyo, and she still has to perform tonight. Keep in mind she doesn’t sleep on flights. I’ve seen her try, but her body is always alert when she’s in the air. Clearly, she needs this time to catch up on her sleep. That’s why I’ve decided to… take initiative and speak on her behalf.”
After capturing a scenic view of the city, Everalda presses a button and switches the view to herself. She looks into the camera with a weak yet gentle smile and nods.
“I’d like to introduce myself. My name is Everalda Sears-Theron. Mother, older half-sister, girlfriend, supermodel, and dancer. When it comes to wrestling, I’m just a fan. Yes, I’m connected to the sport through my sister and my boyfriend. I’ve been taught the basics, but I’m not looking to pursue a career in the wrestling industry. I have been keeping myself up-to-date on the events of New Generation Wrestling since January, so I honestly don’t know too much.”
She’s not afraid to admit this as truth. It’s slightly visible in her facial expression that she’s trying to figure out what to say. Promotional work for wrestling is something she’s not accustomed to doing, especially when it’s spontaneous. Still, she proceeds.
“What I do know is there was a sort of ‘civil war’ between the Guardians and the Destroyers. It was a war with many hard-fought battles and… The Guardians were victorious. Despite the opinions of Matthew, Kayla, Jaxon, and Jack, many people believe that the war finally came to an end on Victory and Honor. The Destroyers thrust many handicaps upon the Guardians, but Jessica, AdrienJoshua, and Jazmyn were still able to defeat their enemies. Then last night, Death Before Dishonor, Matthew and Jack, were bested by a young tag-team by the name of Awkwardly Awesome, Adam and Rémiel. They’re a team that represents West Coast Genesis, the developmental company under New Generation Wrestling.
They will never admit it, but the Destroyers are faltering. It’s possible that their empire is about to collapse within itself. Nearly a year of dominance, possession of the gold, and corrupting this company as the embodiment of darkness… Some would say this is poetic justice. However, it would be wise to never deny the prowess they have shown. Their tactics may not be honorable or respectful, but they are worthy challengers and former champions in their own right.”
Everalda realizes she needs to focus on what comes next in Jessica’s career. She clears her throat and decides to take a seat.
“Now I recall two matches that I watched in recent time between my boyfriend, Adrien Cochrane, and Ms. Julianna DiMaria. The first was an ‘I Quit’ match. The catalyst of the match was when a former member of the Guardians, Mr. Alechs Aurelio, was viciously attacked and… burned by Ms. DiMaria. I don’t quite understand it myself, but Adrien took it upon himself to avenge his dear friend. Near the end of the match, Ms. DiMaria created a garbage fire. Her intention was to throw Adrien into the fire, but he managed to reverse this and he caught her before she could fall in, herself. Saving her was an act of mercy. Fairly recently, the two of them were on the same team. It was a completely random draw, but that was the basis of the super show. When Ms. Aurora Graves was about to ‘take her head off’, Adrien saved Julianna yet again. Not many people would have made the same decisions he did. They may not believe she deserves such protection, but that is why I trust in Adrien’s heart so much. He is one of the rarities of the world… Pure. Good. Kind.”
Taking a deep breath, she lets it out slowly and shakes her head.
“Yet somehow, despite all of this? Ms. DiMaria hates the Guardians. She despises Adrien, even though he saved her twice. She loathes Ms. Jazmyn Rain and Mr. Joshua Goldstein, even when they tried to leave her be. Most of all, she bears animosity for my baby sister, Jessica, even after she reached out when she was on the verge of quitting professional wrestling altogether. Why?”
She raises her free hand and lightly pinches the bridge of her nose. There is a deep sadness in her eyes.
“Why, Julianna? How have the Guardians sparked your ire? Why has my sister wrought your unrequited rage? When did your… fascination with my sister’s gifted backside start?”
That’s putting it very nicely. A tiny smile crosses Everalda’s face for a brief moment before she tilts her head to the right. A few strands of her golden blonde hair frame around her face.
“I cannot entirely speak for Jessica. She has her own heart, mind, and soul. Her judgments are hers to freely make. If she were talking to you right now, she would not be… anywhere near as lenient as I am. You thought that facing my boyfriend Adrien was erratic and antagonizing. I will give you a fair warning. There is a reason why she is the Paladin of Vengeance in Dungeons and Dragons lore.
Not Devotion.
Not the Ancients.
Not the Crown.
Not Redemption.
Not Silence.
...Vengeance. Jessica has explained to me that the Oath of Vengeance is a solemn commitment to punish those who have committed a grievous sin. To set right that which has gone wrong. Paladins who take on this oath are often called avengers or dark knights. Fight the greater evil. By any means necessary. Restitution.
No mercy for the wicked.
Julianna, you have been deemed wicked by my sister’s beliefs. She will not be kind or merciful like Adrien has been to you in the past. She will be ruthless and merciless. It’s just a little bit of perspective. Whether you accept this warning or not… we’ll find out tonight on Dissension, won’t we? Good luck. You will need it.”
She offers a genuine finish to the promotional video before she presses the stop button.
