Avery: Spotlight Championship, take two.
Avery Miles III is drenched in sweat. He is inside of a ring in Macon, Georgia; the home of the Peach State Wrestling School. The rings and school are filled with faces, some are familiar to the viewer while others look like people they have never seen before. Avery is wearing his ring gear as across the ring from him is a young looking wrestler. The kid is covered in some arm tattoos, a pair of wrestling trunks, and some wrestling boots. He looks every part of indy wrestler, but it is obvious that he is hungry for the competition. Going one-on-one with the owner of the school and a man that is making it on the big time, the young buck looks to make an impression.
Avery: I am working my ass off. Seventy-five degrees at 9:46 in the morning, with ninety-one percent humidity.
The camera shows the young wrestler again, he is wiping sweat away as it a hose were installed on the top of his head. No matter, he continues his focus on Avery ready for their training to continue.
Avery: I did what I had to do, Daisy. You would have done the same. I won the match but did not walk away with the gold. I am sorry about you getting hurt, that is the last thing I would wish upon anyone. I was there; I get it. I missed months last year. I had to rehab and come back from my own knee injury. But that is not the way I wanted things to end. I took it upon myself to get a rematch. I didn’t care when, and to say I am surprised that it is the very next show is an understatement. Nevertheless, it is what it is and it was granted. Win or lose, it is going to be inside of the ring.
Avery cracks his neck as he looks over to the young kid once more, and nods. They two of them charge at each other. Avery ducks a clothesline as he runs up the corner. Avery uses the corner to backflip off and lands on his feet behind the young man, who charged after him. Avery runs forward and drives both knees into the back of the kid, as he smashes into the corner. Avery raises back up to his feet, grabs the head of the young man, and hits AMT (Lifting single underhook DDT). Avery covers for a three count as he calls it out. Avery rolls back up to his feet as he reaches for a water bottle and downs half of it. Catching his breath, he holds the top rope and exhales.
Avery: I’ve long prepared myself mentally for this. I was ready two weeks ago, and I am still ready now. I am pushing myself further. Harder. It is important to me to be able to win the Spotlight Championship and to establish myself as someone to be taken seriously in New Generation Wrestling. You know how that is, Daisy. There is a difference between being given respect and actually earning it. Since I returned last year, I have won some matches but I have not made enough of an impact if you ask me. It is time for me to change that. I’ve done huge things in Guerreros of Lucha, but it is time that my success is achieved here. In NGW. My home.
His opponent finally rises up to his feet. He has a unique look; definitely a southern boy with piercing blue eyes and a pearl white smile, but he was layered in muscle tone and tattoos.
Avery: This is my newest prodigy pupil; Cody Calloway. In a short time, you might see him popping up somewhere. He has the speed and agility that I have, with the hard-hitting pop of some of the big boys. I have been successful in my skills as both a wrestler and a trainer. I am proud to have had those train under me become champions. It is a great feeling knowing that I helped them to achieve their success.
He pats Cody on the back. The younger student heads out of the ring and towards the rear of the building leaving Avery alone inside of the ring.
Avery: This is not about Cody though. And he knows that. He is where I was a few years ago. Hungry. The desire to learn as much as I can. And to just break through somewhere. For some time, I lost that drive. That never-ending passion to achieve and to excel. I’ve found it again. I have found that lust I had as a wrestler to be the best. I rediscovered myself and the drive that I once had. The engine that never shuts up, and the heart that infinity loves what he does.
Avery steps forward, closer to the camera.
Avery: I know exactly what I need to do to enter the next stage of my career. I want to move ahead of where I was two years ago, but I knew starting at the bottom would keep me humble. I knew that being in the NGW Championship picture would be a slight to some of those that have achieved more success than I have. Not wanting to jump lines or to step on toes, I made sure to wait my time. Well, the clock is ticking. It is my time now I am reaching for the brass ring. I am not allow success to escape me again. Two weeks ago in Pittsburgh I got the win, but not the title. I did not do what I said I would do, and I let myself down. Not again. This is not going to happen again. This is business, Daisy. It is not personal. You know this. This is a about the piece of gold that you wear around your waist. The Spotlight Championship. This is about my legacy. My success. And my accomplishments.Title match… take two.
