File 014: Guardian | ガーディアン
In the beginning, there is darkness. Only a single voice resonates, soft and feminine.
“I just want you to… listen.”
The voice is recognized as the voice of Jessica Sears.
“Sometime after the first-ever WrestleForce, a singular entity of evil began to corrupt New Generation Wrestling. This entity manifested itself and grew into many. The four that emerged from the darkness called themselves the Destroyers.
Matthew Shields.
Kayla Richards.
Jack Tillman.
Coda.
One by one, they began to claim the gold of NGW. The Heavyweight Championship. The Five Lakes Championship. The Young Lions Championship. The Tag Team Championships. Except for the Spotlight Championship, they reigned supreme. Anyone who opposed them would be… destroyed. They were creatures of dishonor. It was rare when they claimed a victory without cheating, trickery, or outside interference. Unfortunately, the technicalities don’t matter to the record book. Only the wins, losses, and draws count. In that case, they have set new records for their reigns, some of them more challenging than others to break. Matthew Shields holds the record for the longest-reigning Redemption Heavyweight Champion, two hundred and fifty-two days. Coda holds the record for the longest-reigning NGW Young Lions Champion, two hundred and four days. Jack Tillman holds the record for the longest-reigning NGW Five Lakes Champion, one hundred and sixty-eight days. As a collective, they hold the second longest-reign of the NGW Tag Team Champions, one hundred and forty days. There is no denying their destructive force. To call any one of these individuals a “joke” and underestimate them is a grave mistake. For a long time, there was no one to oppose them…
Until ten months ago.”
A single spotlight shines on a chair with a blue and white electric guitar and a Sum 41 guitar pick. Jessica walks into the light and studies the musical instrument.
“It’s true that Adrien Cochrane made his official NGW debut on WrestleForce. He did this to oppose “King” Shields and his tyrannical monarchy. When Matthew formed the Destroyers, Adrien was more than willing to fight them alone. He didn’t care if the odds were stacked against him; he would give them a war. And slowly but surely, inspired by “The Guardian Angel” Jazmyn Rain, Adrien, Jazmyn, Honey Smith, and Alechs Aurelio created the Guardians. They declared war against the Destroyers and thus the NGW Civil War began.”
A second spotlight shines on another chair with professionally-decorated angel wings. Turning on her heels, Jessica makes her way over to it and runs her fingers along the white feathers.
“Jazmyn is one of the cornerstones of the Guardians. She’s the reason why they’re named as such. From the beginning, the Guardians never had a leader. They stood strong on their own, equals to one another, brothers and sisters in arms. They were evenly matched with the Destroyers. Four versus four. Their battles were of the highest quality. But with every war, losses rise to the surface. In a blazing fire, Alechs was gone from the company. Honey left soon after that. After Coda’s shocking end to her Young Lions reign, she disappeared without another word. The Destroyers sought help from the oldest Richards sibling, Jaxon Richards, and for a moment it seemed they would rise above… Except they didn’t.”
A third spotlight shines on yet another chair with a sparkling blue Jew Blazer superhero costume. Jessica lowers her hand and walks over to that chair, tilting her head at the outfit.
“After dealing with a personal battle and solving a conflict between himself and Jazmyn, Joshua Goldstein formed a balance between himself and the Jew Blazer. He became the Spirit of the Guardians, so cheerful and optimistic. He decided to become a Guardian of his own free will because he wanted to redeem himself. He wanted to do what was right and fight the Destroyers. Some people take him lightly because they believe he’s just the comedy relief, but they quickly realize what a mistake that is when he fights with the heart of a warrior. Still, there was something missing within the trio. They needed...”
A fourth spotlight shines on what looks like the last chair. Resting atop of the chair is an authentic replica of the Captain America Shield. Jessica approaches it slowly, taking slow, deep breaths as she does.
“Justice… Freedom… Peace…
Vengeance.
I’ll never claim to be pure. I let go of my innocence a long time ago. I’m not suited to be lawful good. Of all the Guardians, I am the most chaotic. As much as I try to follow my father’s way of life, I am not my father... I am who I am, a nerdy girl from Queens with a love for the geek and pop culture. I grew up with chronic depression and anxiety. I suffered Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder from years of bullying and peer pressure. A little over four years ago, my only knowledge of self-defense was smacking someone with my textbook bag. I was weak and powerless… and then the Strong Style Saint reached out to me. Jaime Alejandro saw something in me that I never knew existed. He saw a passionate fire to protect the people I love. He saw a willpower that could break the extremities of limitations.
I won the Indy Pro Wrestling Heavyweight Championship from a man who was undefeated, “The Beast” Jacob Daniels.
I won the Spirit and Pride X Championship from a veteran professional wrestler who lives up to his nickname, “Relentless” Andre Holmes.
I was one of the finalists for the 2018 KAMIKAZE Pro “Rey de Vuelo” Tournament.
These are accomplishments I earned on my own. No one helped me. No one interfered. I may not have the success of the Destroyers, but none of my victories, my championships, and my accomplishments have been tarnished with broken rules and dirty tactics. My moral compass has remained bright in the darkness and it will stay that way. WHEN it’s time for me to become an NGW Champion again… and it will happen… I will be a fighting, moral champion.”
She steps back from the fourth chair and walks back into the darkness between the four spotlights. She takes a deep breath and lets it out slowly.
“Jaxon says he’s not going to comment on my personal life… but then a few seconds later, that’s exactly what he does. It’s hypocritical and disappointing.
Jack believes that I’m overrated… how? It’s baseless logic. Everything he’s said has no ground to stand on. He seems lost… like an outcast in their frontlines.
Kayla is exactly who she is. The biggest hypocrite on the planet. She’s one of the most jealous and insecure people in this industry and it’s beyond sad.
And Matthew…”
There’s a deliberate pause, a quiet seething of controlled anger, and a forceful exhale.
“...In my entire life, I’ve never wanted to hurt someone more than him… and I know that’s immoral. However, I never claimed to be perfect. I’m chaotic and I’ll embrace that.
The Guardians.
The Destroyers.
Tonight in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania… the war ends once and for all.”
One by one, the spotlights go out until there is darkness yet again.
