Serenity and Avery Miles were in their bedroom, as they were packing a bag, making sure they had an overnight bag ready for when Serenity had the twins. It was still about a month away, but they didn’t want to wait last minute, more so never know what could happen. Serenity was sitting on the bed, as she was looking at the bag. She looks up, as she would see Avery walk over to the bed. She smiles at him.
Avery: So we have fresh clothes. Check. A phone charger. Check. The tablet. Check. What else?
He looks at her, his mind scatterbrained a bit. She laughs as she is looking at him.
Serenity: Calm down. We don’t even need the tablet in there yet. We still have a month to go, just need get the main things we need in there.
Avery: Okay. Give me a list. What do we need?
He wanted to make sure to have everything. We may go a bit overboard, but he wanted this to be perfect. It was important for him to be ready, both physically with their packing and mentally ready.
Serenity: You got clothes, we need a set of clothes for the twins to come home in, their blankets we have for them to come home in.
She was looking at him, as she places a hand on her stomach.
Avery. Check. Check. And double check. Got it all babe.
He looks up to her.
Avery: You okay, angel?
Serenity keeps her hand on her stomach, as she looks at him, before she lets a loud yelp out.
Serenity: Ouch….
Avery jumps up.
Avery: Serenity. What’s wrong?
He hurries over to her and places his hand to her stomach.
Serenity: I…. I think I’m having contractions…
She didn’t know how to explain it, just sharp pains in the stomach,
Avery: How far apart?
He looks at his phone.
Serenity: I… I don’t know…
She bites her bottom lip as she keeps her hand on her stomach.
Avery: That’s it, we are going to get you checked out. Come on.
He reaches to help stand her up.
Avery: I will grab the bag.
Serenity: Are you sure Avery?
She wasn’t sure, as she looks at him, not wanting to go but had feeling they would have to.
Avery: Better safe than sorry, yes.
He helps her up to her feet. He grabs the bag as they head downstairs.
Avery: One step at a time.
He helps he down. She would grumble some, as she lets him help her. She wasn’t moving too fast, trying to take it easy. She looks at him.
Serenity: I am… I am…
They are able to get out of the house as he locks it. They head out to his truck as he helps her get up and into it.
Avery: You okay?
He looks up at her before closing the door. She nods her head before she grabs his hand, squeezing it.
Serenity: Damn it… fuck.
Avery was not used to hearing her cuss.
Avery: What?!?! Are you okay?
Serenity: Fuck… that… hurts.
She bends a bit in pain, as she was trying not to.
Avery: Legs up.
He helps get her legs up as he shuts the door. He heads over to the driver’s side, hops in, and starts to pull out of the driveway. He drives down their dirt road a bit quicker than normal.
Avery: We aren’t that far away baby. I am hurrying.
Serenity: Don’t wreck.
She managed to speak out to him, as she looks over at him. She didn’t know if she was early or not, they still had a month to go.
Avery: Don’t worry.
He turns onto the paved road that leads into Macon.
Avery: I will call people when we get there. Do your breathing. In. In. In, Out.
He breathes with her.
Serenity: I am….
She looks at him, as she glares. She was doing her breathing, but it was still hurting. She was hating him a bit. Avery knew that with pregnancy came a rollercoaster of emotions.
Avery: We are five minutes out. I am going to pull up to the ER doors and rush in to get a nurse and a wheelchair. Okay?
Serenity: Fine… just do it and hurry up… shit.
She didn’t care, as she looks at him. He hurries as they finally get to the hospital. He parks and hurries out. A few seconds later he returns with a nurse and a wheelchair. Avery opens the door for Serenity.
Serenity: About time.
Serenity couldn’t help but to say that, as she goes to get out of the truck, grabbing him as she does. He helps her out and into the wheelchair. He wheels her into the ER as the nurse helps direct them towards a room. She was still in pain each time she felt a contraction, not enjoying it. She wanted to hit Avery for this even.
Nurse: Let’s get you up onto this bed, you okay darling?
She looks at Serenity. Serenity looks at her.
Serenity: Does it looks like I’m fucking okay?
Avery does not say anything as he helps her out of the chair and onto the bed.
* * * *
Later that evening Avery is wheeling Serenity out of the hospital.
Avery: Just a false alarm, but we are prepared. You doing better baby?
Serenity nods her head, she was still a bit in pain though.
Serenity: Yeah…. But that… it hurt. I don’t know if I can do that again….
He stops and turns towards her. He kneels down.
Avery: Serenity. I love you more than anything. I am here for you. Call me anything and everything in the book. Squeeze my hand. Hell, punch me. But I am going nowhere. And we can do this together. You might be in pain and you might be pushing, but I am there for support and to do whatever you need. Another month, and just remember. We get to meet our two little ones. It will be so worth it angel.
Serenity: It will be, but damn…. I know you will be there, just ready for it to be over with now so we can have the twins.
They get to the truck as he helps her up and into it. He wheels the chair back in and returns to the truck. He hops into the truck as he starts it up.
Avery: Ready?
She looks out the window.
Serenity: Can we stop and get some ice cream?
Avery smiles.
Avery: Yes angel.
