The scene opens as Cheyenne Rae is leaving her home in Atlanta, GA. As she's pulling out of her driveway, her phone rings. She notices it is her older sister, Camilla Rae, calling.
Chey: Hello?
Camilla: Hey sis! On ya way yet?
Chey: I sure am; I just left my house.
Camilla: Awesome! I can't wait to see you; it's been awhile. We really should make plans to visit more often.
Chey: I agree. We have so much to catch up on. I'm excited to tell you what I've been up to. Not on the phone, though. It's definitely the kind of news I want to give in person.
Camilla: So you have good news, and I have to wait to hear it!? So not fair..
Camilla and Chey both laugh.
Chey: Sorry sis; ya gotta wait. But I'll be there before ya know it, and we will have all night to talk and catch up.
Camilla: Okay, okay. Hurry and get here, but drive safe too!! Love you. Bye.
Chey: Will do and love you too; bye.
As Chey hangs up the phone, she cranks up the music and continues driving. As she is making this one and a half hour drive to her sister's home in Athens, GA., she reflects on her decision to make the move there. She did want to be closer to her sister, but she ended up buying a home a little ways away. They don't visit as often as she'd like. They weren't always close, but in recent years, with things that have happened.. They have formed a very close bond. A bond that no one could ever break.
Some time has passed, and Chey now finds herself pulling into the driveway. She sees Camilla walking out the front door and toward her car. She gets out, and they share a warm, sisterly hug.
Camilla: I am so glad you're finally here!! I've missed you so much! So, how was the drive up? Was traffic bad?
Chey: Actually, there wasn't much traffic at all. I made good timing. And I am beat; I'm so ready to just sit back and relax this weekend.
The two of them grab Chey's things from the trunk of the car and head into the house. Once inside, Chey drops what she's holding and throws herself onto the couch. With all that she has going on, she's glad to have some free time and also time to catch up with her sister. Camilla sits next to her on the couch..
Camilla: So, tell me, how have you been? And what's the news you wanted to share in person? Is everything okay?
Chey: I'm good, drained, but good. I'll tell you my news, but you have to promise you won't freak out. Promise?
Camilla shakes her head in agreement. She looks both excited and concerned.
Chey: Okay, so you know that I work and train people at the gym, right? Well, I've decided that I want to become a professional wrestler, so I've started training and I have my first match coming up soon! How cool is that?!
Chey's excitement goes down when she notices her sister isn't sharing the same emotion. In fact, Camilla looks rather shocked. She's just sitting there, staring at Chey as if she were a ghost.
Chey: Okay let's have it, what's with the face?
Camilla: A wrestler? Isn't that a very dangerous job? Have you thought this through, and have you told mom? She will be so upset! I mean, why not just stick to training others?
Chey: Camilla, calm down. You're getting yourself all worked up for no reason. It's totally fine; I called mom, and she is fine, too. I told her and dad a few nights ago. I know what I'm doing. I've even started working with someone. He's a professional wrestler, and he's been training me.
Camilla notices that Chey had a huge smile on her face when she mentioned her trainer. She puts her freak-out on hold as she is now intrigued by this.
Camilla: Soo, what's with the smile?
Chey: What? I didn't smile..
Camilla: Oh yes, you did. When you mentioned your new friend and trainer, you had the biggest smile on your face. So, who is he? What's his name??
Chey: He's.. Just a guy I met. We met at the gym.. He was working out.. And we just sort of.. Clicked, that's all.
Camilla: So, you have a crush on him?! I can't believe it. My little sister, the one who said she'd never talk to another man for as long as she lived, has a crush.
As Camilla was going on and on about Chey having a crush, her phone rang. She motions at Chey that their conversation is not over; then, she proceeds to another room to take the phone call.
Chey is thinking about what Camilla said. She has said before that she'd never talk to another man, talk to as in dating. There's just something about CJ. He's.. Different. Camilla walks back into the living room. This time, she's the one with a huge smile on her face.
Camilla: Okay, so.. Tell me about your guy.
Chey: Well, first of all.. He isn't “my” guy. He's just a friend. I've been knowing him for a little while now. I have met some of his friends, but that doesn't mean anything. Besides, he's not ready for a relationship, anyway.. And neither am I. He's sweet, and so easy to talk to. He's told me so much about himself. I feel like I've been knowing him for years.
Camilla: That's great. So, you guys talk a lot, huh? Have you told him about..
Chey cuts her sister off.
Chey: Don't say it!! No, he doesn't know about any of that. He told me about him, but I didn't tell him much about me. I'm not ready to open up like that to anyone just yet.
Camilla knows it would be best just to drop the subject. She knows what Chey has been through in the past, and she wants her to be happy. She grabs her sister's hand..
Camilla: Chey, I know it's hard, but if you really like this guy.. Don't you think you should be a little more open with him? You know I am here for you. I want you to be happy, and from the way you were smiling.. I think this mystery man makes you happy.
Chey is paying attention to her sister, but she's also drifting away in her own thoughts. Camilla notices this..
Camilla: Remember when we were growing up? How you always said that you had to live in my shadow? You were always in your shell, never wanting to open up to anyone. What did I tell you back then?
Chey: You told me that, in order to be my own person, I had to step out of my comfort zone and make myself be seen. And you said others won't hear my voice if I never use it.
Camilla: Exactly. So, if you really like this guy.. And we both know you do... Open up to him. If it's something that's meant to be; then, it will happen. It's important, even just as friends, to talk to each other.
Chey knows her sister is right. She just finds it hard to talk about certain things, especially with new people.
Chey: You know my past with men. You know the real reason I moved to Georgia. I will tell him more about myself.. Like how we used to play in the stream and throw the football with all the neighborhood boys and the girls calling us freaks.
Camilla and Chey both share a laugh at the childhood memory.
Chey: I'll tell him about our huge family gatherings during the holidays and how I always make myself sick eating so much food. I'll tell him about our birthday parties and how you always got the better presents.
Chey makes a face at her sister, letting her know she's just messing with her.
Chey: I'll even tell him that I made perfect grades in school, and rarely missed any days. I'll talk to him about a lot of things. But certain things just… don't have to be mentioned.
With this, Camilla gives Chey a concerning look. She cares and only wants what's best for her.
Chey: I will tell him at some point, if he's the person I'm meant to be with.. He will find out one day all about my past. I don't want to open up completely about everything I've been through, not yet. So for now can we please just talk about anything else?
Chey has so much on her mind. She wants to focus on one thing and actually do some relaxing.
Camilla: Sure no problem, why don't you tell me about this match you're going to do. Who are you up against?
Chey: I'm actually a little nervous. My opponent's name is Julianna DiMaria. I haven't met her yet or anything. I also haven't really heard much about her either. She's a complete mystery to me. I don't know if that's a good or bad thing, though.
She wonders, as she thinks of her upcoming match. Has she trained enough? Is she ready to get in the ring? She then thinks about CJ. Though they aren't in a relationship or anything, he is a really good friend and she doesn't want to let him down. He's been the one training her all, after all.
Camilla: So tell me… why wrestling?
Chey: Well, I loved karate as a kid, and I love training and working out. It just seems fitting for me.
Camilla: I can see that. I just think it's dangerous..I've watched wrestling and I've seen a lot of people get seriously injured.
That comment reminded Chey of when CJ told her about his injury, and how it really changed his life. If he can get injured like that and make a comeback, then she could certainly put herself out there to do what she knows she was born to do.
Chey: I understand that, but getting injured is a risk I'm willing to take. And there are so many charities. I can raise money and awareness for kids and adults with disabilities and diseases.
She stands up, as if to make the next thing she says, seem more meaningful.
Chey: Never let the fear of striking out, keep you from playing the game. That's something dad always said to us, remember? I've always lived by that. It's not about competition to me, and it's not just a fight. It's an opportunity for me to prove myself. To show myself and others that I can do this. I will win some and lose some, but what's most important to me is, I'm doing something that I love. My first match is coming up real soon, and I'm ready.
They hug, and the screen fades to black.
