The apartment of James Pridmore is just like any other 22 year old wrestler living in Long Beach, but the only difference is that he has a gorgeous blonde sitting on his couch, holding on to their cat, Margot. He stood in the kitchen of his kitchen apartment, washing dishes, looking at Julianna and Margot as they watch whatever show on Netflix they felt they could judge the characters the most in. It’s just what they enjoyed doing. They weren’t a perfect couple, but they enjoyed each other, and even the flaws of each other, so it was all good.
Generally, James wouldn’t be showing us this. He tends to be a private guy about his love life, as it becomes very controversial with the others on the roster with him. However, this time is different. He wasn’t going into any general match, like he has the past few months. This time, he’s going into the ring against a monster that has been plaguing him since his debut, and even though he has a partner, it didn’t make him feel any less scared.
He had been told by a multitude of coworkers, that they hope James and Austen final vanquish Nite Stalker, because Nite Stalker’s attacks have grown to make everyone on the roster paranoid. They have put that weight on James and Austen’s shoulders, which didn’t hurt them, because it gives them even more support and drive, but it does put more pressure on them. Crossroads: Escalation will be the first time James has ever walked into a ring, and not be 100% confident in his abilities. He was scared, and even though he was never going to outwardly admit it, it was very obvious.
“I have wrestled with demons all my life. I was raised being told that the only thing I was going to do in my life was be a professional wrestler, and that if I wasn’t the best, I was going to be a failure for the rest of my life. After the success my cousin got, after only 2 years as a pro, there was a lot of weight put on my shoulders when I signed with West Coast Genesis. I know that this is all stuff that I’ve said before, but it’s constantly on my mind, and constantly haunting me.
Julianna get’s that, and I’ve said this before too, but that’s why we connect so well.”
Jimmy pauses to laugh at whatever stupid thing happened on the show they were watching. He takes in this moment, because he isn’t sure if it’s going to be the same after this. He continues to talk.
”Again, this is stuff that’s always on my mind, and I know that this pressure and doubt I have, is something Nite Stalker feeds off of. He feeds on misery, and on fear. That’s why he attacks people, and leaves bloody crosses on their heads. He’s a master manipulator, and whether he is something supernatural, or just some weirdo with a face prosthetic, he’s good at what he does.
However, like I’ve said before, I’ve wrestled with demons all my life. I’ve fought every negative emotion, every manipulated feeling, and I’ve overcome them. I am never down for too long, and this feud with Nite Stalker has shown me that I’ve been down long enough. So at Crossroads: Escalation, I’m going to stand back up. I’m going to fight back against yet another demon, and I’m going to prove that you can’t keep the CEO of Upstart Inc from doing what he does best, succeed.
I am going to vanquish my inner demons, as well as this outer demon, so I can get control of my life back. Julianna has been worried about me, and I’ve gotten well wishes from the rest of the roster, asking if I’m okay after all of these attacks, and that they hope I finally beat Nite Stalker, so that everyone can move along with their lives. This animosity between him and I has grown into an all out blood war, and it’s the sentiments given to me by WCG that has really given me the strength to fight back against this monster.
It also helps that I’m not walking into this match alone.”
At this moment, right when James is going to talk about how great Austen has been, Julianna yells about how the main character is “Such a stupid bitch”, and reminds her of Mercedes. James just laughs it off, because if she knew he was talking about her least favorite people, the Blackwells, she’d be pretty pissed. James finishes up the dishes, and dries his hands.
”If there was anyone who understood my problems with Nite Stalker, it’s Austen. We don’t always been on the same page, but he’s proven to be a loyal friend, and I really couldn’t ask for a better person to go out there with me to defeat Nite Stalker. Austen is a smart guy, and he really knows how to get the fans behind him, which is important when facing against someone who tries to make you feel isolated away from the world.”
He pauses, as Julianna asks him to bring her something. He grabs a bag of chips, and gives them to her. They share a quick kiss, and then he tells her he’ll be right back. He returns to the camera to finish his promo.
”Nite Stalker talks about some warrior twins, or whatever, and how heroes have tried and failed to defeat him. Well, I’ve never asked to be a hero. I never asked for some deranged psychopath to target me for a third of a year. I never asked for any of this, yet here I am, standing with Austen, about to go into the den of the devil, so that we can have our story book endings.
At Crossroads: Escalation, Austen and I band together, and put WCG on our backs, as we fight for our lives. We are going to fight, because we are tired of the paranoia, we are tired of the abuse, and we are tired of Nite Stalker. It doesn’t matter how many folklores that bastard twists to relate to him, everyone knows the heroes always win. This weekend will be now different.
We will fight for Julianna, for Mercedes, for ourselves, for our friends and coworkers. We are going to fight for West Coast Genesis, and we won’t stop until we’ve either stopped Nite Stalker, or we’ve died in that ring.
We’re coming Nite Stalker, and your soon enough, it’ll be you praying to us for mercy!”
James returns to the coach, and grabs Margot from the coach. He hugs Julianna, and tells her that he loves her. Julianna laughs and says she loves him too, and then they both tell Margot that they love her. They start to cuddle romantically, as they look at the tv, and the scene fades to black.
