Off Camera
Keiji exits a convenience store, when a soft buzz sounds off in his pocket. He really wasn't expecting any messages, especially at this late hours. Intrigued, he pulls his phone out.
Keiji: (reading aloud) Keiji, was wondering if you wanted to get together for an interview. Figure I have that in my bag of tricks, let me know. Remi. P.S. Food Reporter P.P.S. Totally real.
Keiji can't help but crack a grin, he clacks away at his phones keyboard, once satisfied with his reply, he clicks the send button. With that, he gets into his car, his purchased complete, and makes a beeline back for the motel.
On Camera
Remington Boucher waits patiently in a random conference room. Remi is somewhat dressed up for the occasion, or what would be considered dressed up for him anyway, wearing a button up tee, and slacks. Not long after the cameras start rolling, Keiji pops into the room, he's wearing some obscure cat shirt, jeans, and a pair of sunglasses. Remi stands to greet Keiji, and the two men shake hands, before taking their seats.
Remi: Thanks for letting me do this, wanted to see of I can still do this interviewing thing.
Keiji cracks a grin, and casually leans back into his chair. He nods his head, and makes eye contact with his manager.
Keiji: Hey, no problem. Just do t go and throw me all these softball questions. I may be your client, but right now, interview subject.
Remington raises an eyebrow, softball questions definitely didn't fit his general modus operandi. He leans forward a bit, and readies himself.
Remi: So, last show you fought Danniele Basch. Things, well things did not go as planned. You went out there, and although you put on a good performance. It just wasn't enough to get the job done. Looking back at that match, is there anything you would have done differently?
Keiji: Nah, I had a plan going into the match. But it didn't pan out. But, look. Danni is South Bay Champ for a reason. Maybe I could have switched up my plan of attack, but she's a pro. Don't think it would have changed much.
Remi: What about your preparation for that match? You fought a man, in a bear suit. Any regrets there?
Keiji can't help but smile, just thinking back on that was enough to make him grin. It really was quite amusing, and pretty damn fun to boot.
Keiji: Absolutely not, look. Yes, I did that. But let's also look back the previous week, I fought a couple of matches elsewhere. By the time it came to shoot my piece for the show, I wanted to keep it light. Do something fun for the people at home.
Remi: Ok, fair enough. Now, with the Pay-Per-View coming up, you're tasked with going up against Ares McCullough. Who, like you, is fresh off of a loss. You're both looking to go out there, and get a W in the record books. Looking forward, what's your game plan going in?
Keiji: Bro, I'm not about to sit here and reveal my plan to the world. I'm not some kind of comic book villain. But, I will tell you this, I've tweaked a few things, even working on a new move.
Keiji smirks, he knew better than to let his opponent have a step by step rundown of what he was going to do.
Remi: Can't blame a guy from trying.
Remington chuckles, and gives a light shrug, before attempting to get himself back into interview mode.
Remi: Strategies aside, how are you feeling about this match? Is there pressure on you, to go out there and pick up the win?
Keiji let's the question roll around in his head for a moment, milking the moment for all it was worth, before finally smirking, and leaning forward in his chair.
Keiji: I'm feeling great about the match. What I've seen from Ares so far, he looks to have some pretty killer moves, going out there and testing myself against my opponent, yeah. I always look forward to that. As far as pressure goes, no more than usual, I mean winning is great, don't get me wrong. But, that having been said, a loss isn't the end of the world. If anything, losses just help me to refocus, and do so a better job the next time.
Remi: I can see the validity of what you're saying, but at a certain point there has to be a point where you need to win. No shame in a loss, but how far do you think a loss will take you?
This one took Keiji by surprise, he knew he'd asked Remi to conduct the interview his own way. But, this wasn't a question he was ready for. But, he did agree to answer whatever, so he composes himself and answers.
Keiji: But that's the thing, I'm not the type who puts much stock in records. At the end of the day, I can have gotten destroyed in that ring, as long as I sent the fans home happy though, that's what keeps me coming out, and doing what I do. Now, does that mean I'm not going to try? Absolutely not, but at the same time, I'm not going to let losing a match turn me into some kind of inconsolable rage monster either.
Remi nods, content with the answer given. He thinks for a moment, trying to remember if there were any more questions he wanted to ask. Nothing really came to mind, so he decided to wrap things up.
Remi: That's all the questions I have for you today, thanks once again. Good luck out there, hope to see you two put on a show.
Keiji reaches out, and shakes his friend/manager's hand.
Keiji: Anytime good buddy, always a pleasure to hang out. As far as putting on a show, you already know we will.
With that, the scene fades to black.
