Jason Hunter sits on the floor of his bedroom as he stretches the string of a new bow taut and hooks it. He raises it up and it looks to be an old school Japanese style daikyū. It's quite a bit taller than him, looking to be well over seven feet. There appear to be a few modern touches to the bow, but the aesthetic is very traditional. He stands, grips the bow and stretches back the string, showing a bit of strain as he does. He slowly releases, letting it snap back in to place before he raises it up and puts it under a small rack under his other bows. He grabs an arrow that's just over three feet long and looks it over for a bit. He takes a small cloth and cleans off the bamboo shaft as he sits back down and admires the newest addition to his arsenal.
"You know Ryuji, the weapons of your people are really works of art. Most people know the katana and the nunchaku or nunchucks as they're typically called. Some people know shuriken and sai's, but their knowledge is almost all based on movies and television shows. Myself, I like to look deeper. I like to delve in to the history, the use, the way they were originally made and all the improvements that have been done over time. This one that I have is actually combination of modern and the Yohonhigo technique of using a bamboo laminate core with fiber reinforced plastic sides, front and back. The arrows are done in a similar way, the shafts are bamboo, the arrowheads and nock are aluminum, the fletching feathers are from black swans. Now, you probably don't care about all of this Ryuji. You're probably wondering why I am talking about a bow and some arrows instead of our match. It's to make a point, to show you how much attention to detail I have taken in this weapon. I know how it was made, what it is made of, and how to use it. The attention to detail I have with my weapons, it extends to the ring as well. It extends to match study, it extends to finding a weakness in my opponents. That is why I went in to such detail about this bow and this arrow. To show you the time of person you are stepping in to the ring with on Saturday night."
Hunter looks down at the arrow and runs his finger along the fletching, making sure that it's perfectly straight, no breaks in the feathers, no bending or molting.
"I also did that to show that I respect your country, it's culture, it's weaponry, it's history. Now that respect, well it doesn't extend to you. Perhaps you csn earn it in this match, like your ex had done in our Texas death match. I say had because she lost it the second she accepted that flawed win to make her the false number one contender. This isn't about her though, much as she wants it to be. No doubt it's difficult for her fragile ego to accept a reality in which everything doesn't involve her, but I assure you that my attack on you had nothing to do with her. In truth, you were in the wrong place at the wrong time. Had mine and Tasmin's opponents been Carter Strong and Iph... Ipha... whatever the hell her name is, I would have attacked the giant. If it had been one of the Basch's and Kimo, I would have attacked Kimo. If it would have been Night Stalker and whoever would be stupid enough to team up with him, I would have attacked one of them. I attacked you for one reason and one reason only. I attacked you because I still didn't have an opponent for Escalation."
Hunter shakes his head a bit, then wipes the hair that fell over his eye, back in to place.
"The best wrestler on this entire roster, didn't have a match for Escalation. The man who defeated the current West Coast and South Bay champions and the current number one contender for the West Coast championship, didn't have a match for Escalation. The man who has the stamp of approval from the longest reigning New Generation Wrestling champion, didn't have a match for Escalation. Two guys who have barely been in the company, they at least had potential matches for Escalation. Me though, there was absolutely nothing planned. The damn GM was too worried about her wedding and didn't make sure that THE top guy had a marquee match up. Make no mistake about it, I am THE top guy here in West Coast Genesis. Just because someone else happens to have that belt, it don't make him the number one man. I am the guy that always delivers when the lights are on bright. I am the guy that has not lost a match on Hype or Crossroad, without some kind of bullshit involved. One on one, unless I have faced my girlfriend or some psycho who pushed me to the edge, nobody can claim they have a win on me, on their own. One on one, without someone else involving themselves in the match, nobody can claim a win against me. One on one, when the lights are bright, when the World is watching, I am at my very best and there is no way you can overcome that Ryuji."
Hunter looks straight ahead with an arrogant smirks as he grabs a small bottle, sprays the arrow head and starts polishing it up.
"When I am at my very best, there is nobody that can defeat me. Hell, I would bet that half this roster couldn't even beat me at my worst. Come Escalation, the World once again gets to see THE top guy do what he does best as I win yet another big time one on one match up. So Ryuji, I want you to do one simple thing for me. Make sure that your new woman, doesn't let your son watch our match. I don't want that little brat to throw a fit because I'm kicking his daddies ass. I don't want that annoying little monster to scream when I bloody up his daddy. I don't want that little bastard to cry when I beat his daddy senseless and pin him in the middle of that ring. So Ryuji, make sure he isn't watching that match. Make sure that he isn't able to see the absolute destruction I will cause. Make sure that he knows not to turn on that TV. I don't want him to see you lose and let him realize that his daddy is so far from the best wrestler around. Make sure you don't allow him to watch this match Ryuji. If you don't do that, I can't be held responsible for any nightmares he has or any respect he loses for you."
Hunter looks straight ahead, the arrogant smirk still plastered across his face as the scene slowly fades out.
