Donovan Basch sits on the end of a king-sized bed, looking at his watch. With a sigh, he quickly glances toward the bathroom.
Donovan: Danielle, are you almost ready to go?
Danielle: (from the bathroom) Almost… I just have to finish up with my hair…
Donovan: Why? You’re just going to be sitting in a makeup chair once we get to the arena anyway….
Danielle: That’s still no excuse for me to step out looking like I just rolled out of bed.
As Danielle finally emerges from the bathroom, Donovan stands up. He walks over to his wife, gently hooking a finger under her chin as he gives her a quick kiss.
Donovan: It doesn’t matter to me if you’ve just rolled out of bed or if you’re dripping with diamonds. You are the most beautiful woman in the world, and I’m proud to call you my wife.
Danielle blushes at the compliment.
Danielle: Spidey…
He chuckles as he moves to the dresser, where his gear bag sits. He slings it over his shoulder before picking up his championship belt. As he does this, Danielle grabs her title from the nightstand, before stopping to grab her bag out of the closet.
Donovan: Come on, dearest. We have a lot to do between now and the opening bell.
Danielle: I know… besides, I know you want to score some prime counter space for your coffee maker.
Donovan: Indeed… and now, thanks to you, I find myself sharing with Adam Sanders.
Danielle: Hey, just because the kid is awkward as hell, doesn’t mean he should have settle for crappy coffee, am I right?
Donovan: I suppose. That reminds me….
He heads into the next room, putting his bag and title on the dining table as he heads into the kitchen, where he reaches into one of the cabinets above the refrigerator. He pulls out a large black bag with a skull and crossbones printed on the side.
Danielle: Death Wish!? Are you nuts? You’re going to have that poor boy jumping off the walls!
Donovan: He said he wanted to try a cup; I figured I might as well bring the good stuff….
Danielle can do nothing but shake her head and chuckle.
Danielle: You know, you’ve come a long way from the cold, antisocial loner that you were when we first met.
Donovan sets the bag down on the table, then slips his arms around his wife’s waist.
Donovan: I guess all it took was for me to have the right woman come into my life…
Danielle puts her hands on her hips, chuckling at her husband.
Danielle: You keep this up, and we’ll never get out of here!
She stands up on her tiptoes, giving him a kiss on the tip of his nose.
Danielle: Come on… let’s get out of here, you caffeine fiend!
He chuckles as he collects the items on the table. Donovan and his wife then head out through the front door.
The Hornets Nest

Scene fades in at a meet-and-greet session before the upcoming episode of Hype, where West Coast Champion Donovan Basch is sitting with his wife, the South Bay Champion, Danielle Basch. As the eager throng of fans waits to be let in to the pre-show event, Donovan takes a moment to get up from the table as his wife gets everything organized.
A stack of 8x10 glossies? Check. Limited Edition t-shirts? Check.
Copious amounts of Sharpie pens in three different colors? Check, check, and check.
Donovan walks behind the backdrop that was erected behind the table where Danielle is sitting, away from the prying eyes of the crowd. With only the camera to focus on, Donovan stares into the lens, his face the picture of tranquility.
Donovan: I see what you’re doing, Ms. Lark. I don’t know about you, but I’ve certainly been around long enough to know when someone is deliberately trying to get under my skin. There is only one woman that has ever managed such a feat, and that woman now carries my last name.
He glances back over his shoulder, as if he were taking a quick look through the backdrop at his bride.
Donovan: I don’t need to keep building my confidence up, little girl. The fact that I’m here, as the face of West Coast Genesis, with the South Bay Champion standing at my side is all the confidence I will ever need. Under no circumstances do I have any reason to fear the mindless ramblings of a delusional little girl who thinks that pain is what makes you stronger.
No, you poor, simple little child. As much as you can stand there and say “hurt me and then hurt me more,” it doesn’t strike fear in the hearts of your opponents. In fact, if they feel anything at all, they feel nothing but pity for you. When my wife beat you within an inch of your life one month ago, she told me one thing that stood out more than anything she had ever said in the days leading up to that match.
“She’s all talk,” she said. “She’s nothing special whatsoever.”
A dark chuckle escapes from Donovan’s throat as the derisive smile that seemed like it was etched into his face from the moment he first stepped through a WCG curtain once again makes an appearance.
Donovan: And she’s absolutely right. There is nothing remarkable about you whatsoever, Sela. And that, little girl, is why when you step through those ropes to face me, the fact that the West Coast Championship will not be on the line will be irrelevant. You are miles away from being even remotely close to in my league. And at Hype later tonight, I will treat you like the annoying insect that you are. Tonight, you will learn why you should never cross a Basch….
As he finishes his sentence, Danielle steps out from the other side of the backdrop, running a hand along his shoulder as she smiles.
Danielle: Hey there, handsome! You about done yet?
Donovan turns to greet his wife with a quick kiss as he gently strokes her cheek.
Donovan: Is it time?
Danielle nods.
Danielle: They’re about to start letting the fans in.
Donovan: Well then… we best not keep them waiting.
He smiles as Danielle heads back to the other side, but before he joins her, he turns to the camera one last time, his steel blue eyes staring straight into the lens as he sneers.
Fade to black.
