'I got nothing.'
The admission, which opens the latest video uploaded to the West Coast Genesis website, is made by none other than Long Beach Champion Izzy Roxx. Seen sitting at her desk in her room, the youngster pulls a world-weary expression, running her hands through her hair, as she continues:
'Yeah. I got nothing. Between worrying about midterms and worrying about some psycho chick beating up my boyfriend, I haven't had a whole lot of time to think about anything lately. You guys saw I haven't even been on Twitter that much apart from the last couple of days. You know why that is? It's 'cause this past month or whatever, I haven't really been living. I've been surviving.'
The teenager pulls her hair off her face again.
'And speaking of surviving...I bet someone, somewhere has a poll going about how fast this Nite Stalker dude is gonna kill me dead on Saturday. And I mean, I get it. Big creepy dude in a mask going up against the teenage girl next door. It's basically every slasher movie ever. The way a lot of people see it, when me and this Stalker dude get out there on Saturday, it's gonna be like Friday the 13th up in there. And, you know, they're not wrong. They're just forgetting something about slasher movies...
...the teenage girl always survives.'
Izzy leans forward, a semblance of a confident smirk broaching her features.
'That's right. I got you thinking now, didn't I? And now that you're thinking about it, you can totally see it, too. The teenage girl always survives. The killer always gets all her friends and stuff, but the main one always ends up escaping. So if this is a horror movie, and I'm the main character...that means I get to live in the end, right?'
Izzy pauses for a moment, letting the thought sink in, before continuing:
'Yeah. Yeah. Thinking about it, this totally is a horror movie. 'Cause in horror movies, the killer always has all the weapons and the strength and the brains and stuff, and the teens are always super fudged trying to get away from him. And this Nite Stalker guy is the same. He's strong, he has experience, and he probably has more than three moves he can hit successfully. And on the other side of the mat is this five-foot-nothing, twelve-year-old looking goofball who can't even hit her finisher right half the time. This chick is deader than dead, right?
Except..'
The smile grows wider and more confident as the youth continues:
'...except the main girl in that kind of movie always has a lot of heart and survival instincts and stuff, and that's how she beats the killer. And nobody who's ever watched me go out there and take pinfalls from two different guys for five minutes straight and not immediately quit wrestling can say I haven't got heart. And as for survival instincts...you don't get to graduate high school without learning some of those. And you definitely learn how to use them when you weigh 100 pounds and you're a professional wrestler.'
Izzy leans back, her body language now relaxed as opposed to her frazzled demeanour at the start of the video.
'So yeah. People may look at my match on Saturday and see a hardcore horror flick...but me? I know how horror flicks end. Sure, there's blood. And sure, the main girl always comes out of it with a few bruises and broken bones. But in the end, she survives. In the end, the killer dies, and she gets to live happily ever after. Or, well, at least until the sequel.'
Izzy pauses a moment as she stifles a giggle, but quickly continues:
'And that's how my movie's gonna end, too. I'm gonna survive. Nite Stalker is probably gonna beat me up, he's probably gonna do everything he can to take me down...but I'm gonna survive. Win or lose, by the time that bell rings, I'm still gonna be standing. I'm still gonna be alive. And when that happens, something else is gonna happen too.'
The youth leans forward again, her smile now broad and beaming.
'When that happens...when Nite Stalker puts me through hell and I make it out the other side alive...everybody's gonna realize something about him.
Everybody's gonna realize..Nite Stalker's not a monster, or a demon, or a boogeyman.
He's just a dude in a mask.'
With that, and another half-smirk to the camera. Izzy Roxx signs off, ending the video on a markedly different note than it had started.
