"Tag Team Match..."
The words dripped from the mouth of Jason Hunter like he had tasted the most vile thing in the World. He sat on the balcony of his apartment in the simple black metal patio chair that had been there for quite some time. He dressed down in black workout pants and one of his basic deer skull and crossed arrows t-shirts.
"I despise those three words. Every single time I look at a card and I see those three words, I am filled with fear and apprehension. Every single time I look at a card and I see those three words, I am overcome with a sense of dread. Every single time I look at a card and I see those three words, a knot forms in the pit of my stomach. I absolutely hate tag team matches, and it's for one very simple reason. I am awful at them. I readily admit that when it comes to tag team wrestling, I suck. I'm a selfish person. I hunt alone because I don't want anyone else potentially bagging my prize. I prefer to wrestle alone because I want to be the one that gets the pin or the submission. I don't work well with others at all, and everyone has been witness to that on more than one occasion."
Hunter lets out a sigh as he looks like he might actually be sick. He takes a few deep breaths then downs a sip of water and looks to be okay.
"When I saw those three words on the card and then read my name under it, I didn't even finish looking at it. It wasn't until hours later when Tasmin came in with a squeal of delight and jumped on, that I found out we would be teaming up against that bitch Melina Garrison and her ex husband Ryuji Takahashi. She of course is excited about this match, as she is about all of her matches. Myself, the only positive I can find in it is that I get another chance to beat up the bitch who stole my West Coast Title match. I know you're all sitting there saying it was fair and she won clean and blah blah blah. You idiots are just as blind and biased as the people running the show. A referee should never physically involve themselves in the match. If you're not saying that, you're of course questioning why I don't see teaming up with Tasmin as a positive. I get to team with my girlfriend while my opponents are exes. We should be able to work together way better than those two. Teaming up just worked out for Matt Shields and Kayla Richards. Clearly, all of you are forgetting every other time that myself and Tasmin teamed up."
Hunter sighs again and shakes his head. he stands up from his chair and paces for a bit before grabbing another sip of water.
"I love Tasmin and outside of the ring, we are great together. Inside the ring though, things just don't click. Matt and Kayla work well together because they both have that killer instinct. that sadistic side, that ability to unlock the monster within. Tasmin... she doesn't have that. It isn't a bad thing, in fact it's one of the the many things I like about her. It does make things a bit more difficult when we team up though. I know she isn't willing to go as far as I am, and that leaves me reluctant to tag her in. I'm not proud of that, but it's the truth. Then there's the fact that our in ring styles just don't work well together. You would think that two quick people who can strike and use high flying skills would work well together, but it seems like we get in each others way. Tasmin in that trios tournament, she'll be great. Her partners have a similar attitude to her and their styles will compliment each other. There is a reason she is in the trios tournament and I am in the singles tournament."
He takes another sip of water and goes back to pacing. He stops and runs a hand through his hair, pushing it back out of his face.
"Tag Team Match! I really do hate those three words. I am not here for tag team matches. I'm not here in the hopes of getting called up and going after the tag team titles. I am here to be the West Coast Champion. I am here to be the first person ever to win the West Coast championship and the New Generation Wrestling Heavyweight Championship. I am here to make history, and tag team matches do not help me do that. Beating the current number one contender, the current South Bay Champion and the current West Coast champion, that helps me do that, and should get me a lot better than some tag team match. Tasmin, if you're getting upset watching this, just know that this isn't about you in any way. I know I said we don't work well together in the ring, but outside of it, you're the only partner that I ever want. I just... I can't stand tag team matches. I hate them as much as you hate people that are mean to kittens."
Hunter takes another sip of water, finishing it off as he sits back down in his chair and starts slowly peeling the label off the bottle.
"Melina, Ryuji, you're probably sitting there frustrated that i haven't talked about you much and instead have spent my time expressing my frustration about tag team matches. Melina, everyone already knows how I feel about you, so I really don't need to rehash all of that. Ryuji, the only thing I really know about you is that you were smart enough to break up with Melina, so you're at least not a complete moron. Your son is kind of cool to I guess. I know he's a Tasmin fan and he called the new giant ape around here a monster. Honestly, that's all that I need to know about you outside the ring. I can study tape for everything else, and believe me, I will be studying. As much as I hate tag matches, I hate losing even more, especially when Melina Garrison is involved."
Hunter just looks straight ahead for a bit as a small rain shower starts to slowly move in. He just stays outside staring straight ahead, even as the wind blows the rain on to the balcony.
