*OOC: Martin Karloff, Josh Goldstein, and Remi Fontaine appear.
It’s Friday.
Friday always meant doing something special with the children, no matter what.
But today was a very special day.
“Are they awake yet?” Martin asks, wrapping his arms around his beautiful wife from behind as he approaches her in the kitchen. He is careful when he touches her, not wanting to hurt her arm any further. The sun was just beginning to rise in Manhattan. They’d be flying to London late that night but again, today was a special day.
“Christian and Jacques are awake. They’re trying to quietly play Little Big Planet.” Xaria giggles softly. She’s aware of how mindful Martin is with her right arm where she suffered the rotator cuff tear and she appreciates it.
With the aftermath of the Cage Match in Paris, France, her right arm is going to be supported by the medical sling for a long time, six months at a minimum. Her primary care physician, Dr. Elliot Andrews, informed her that it would depend on the progress of the eventual physical therapy sessions. For now, the first three months are dedicated to pure rest, minimal stress, and assistance for certain tasks.
She places her left hand over her husband’s arms and sighs. “I can’t believe they’re six-years-old today…”
“Joshua said he’d be here at noon. In costume. The party will start at two. Daniel has, of course, spent and absurd amount of money on his grandchildren.” Martin says. The boys loved playing with their ‘Unca Josh’.
Xaria nods in acknowledgement of the information presented to her. She’s relieved that, even after the Global Cup round between her husband and Ronnie North, Josh is still willing to be a caretaker for their children. She was worried that Christian, Jacques, and Pénélope would never see him again due to the unfortunate series of events.
“I’m going to play the game with them and ask what they want for breakfast even though we know the answer is banana waffles. Okay?” Martin asks, brushing some of her hair aside and placing a kiss to the back of Xaria’s neck.
The kiss tickles her sweetly and she smiles. “Oui, mon amour. Penny’s still asleep, but I’m sure she’ll wake up soon.” She turns a little and watches Martin dismiss himself up the stairs. She regards the dining table full of Marvel birthday decorations. Lately, Christian has been fascinated by Doctor Strange while Jacques’ love for the Guardians of the Galaxy continues to grow. Those are the base decorations, but Captain America and Iron Man are still among their favorites. There are six long sparkling candles set up on the table as well. She makes her way over to the French-design refrigerator and checks on the Marvel-themed ice cream cake in the freezer.
“Six years… my sweet boys…” Xaria feels her emerald green eyes well up with tears.
Soon a meal of banana waffles is enjoyed by all and at noon ‘Unca Josh’ arrives in his full Jew Blazer gear.
“Hey guys!” Josh announces when he arrives, only to be tackled by two six year olds.
“UNCA JOSH!”
“Ah! Oh God! They’re so strong!” Josh says. Christian and Jacques wear big grins on their faces. Daniel arrives and steps over the fallen Jew Blazer to arrive in the kitchen.
“Drop that right now.” Daniel says when he sees Xaria lifting something as she preps for the party. “You should be sitting down and resting that arm.” Daniel insists.
“Ah…” Xaria glances down at the wall scrolls of Doctor Strange, The Guardians of the Galaxy, and The Avengers. “Desolé, Monsieur Daniel, I just want to help…”
“Mama, noo.” Penny walks up to her mother in her cute sparkly red dress with black stockings and red sparkly shoes. The color scheme takes after her father’s style, of course. “You need to sit. I can help!” The three-year-old little girl claps her hands and bounces.
“Don’t worry, the cavalry’s here.”
Xaria glances up and smiles when she sees her older half-brother, Quentin Fontaine, but her eyes widen when she sees someone follow behind him. “Quentin! Remi!”
“This is why I’m a little late. I had to pick up the squirt from the airport.” Quentin smiles and receives a playful punch to his arm. “Hey!”
“I’m eighteen, dad. A little respect.” Remi sticks his tongue out in slight defiance of his own claim to young adulthood.
Martin arrives from the back room where he was working on his ‘secret project’ and quickly snatches up Penelope into his arms and holds her.
“Have you been a good hostess?” Martin asks Penelope. Penelope nods and gestures to all the guests she has been ‘entertaining’ and Martin laughs, giving her a big kiss on the cheek.
“Gah! They’re so violent!” Everyone hears Josh say from the next room. They ignore him.
“I believe I have completed my impossible mission for the party...” Martin says before seemingly realizing something. “Sorry, where are my manners? Quentin, Rémiel...how are you? Can I get you anything?” Martin asks.
Quentin offers a friendly smile and waves. “I’ve been organizing the final form of the French and Italian midterms for my students, so… very busy. I could go for a glass of water.”
“Ohh! Can I get it for Uncle Q, daddy?” Penny looks up at her father with her big green eyes.
Martin smiles and carries Penny over to where the glasses are so she can grab one then over to the sink so she can fill it up.
Remi casually waves. “I’m good for now, thanks.” Curious, he moves back towards the living room and watches Jacques wrestle Josh to the best of his ability while Christian cheers on. “Heh, you’ve got a future third-gen wrestler in the making, Aunt Xaria!”
“Oh, Jacques has been doing this for a little while now.” Xaria pouts. “I don’t really want any of my children to get into the industry…”
“Oh really? You don’t feel the urge to see your legacy carried on?” Daniel asks curiously. It’s well known that Daniel has something of an obsession with this. Xaria looks towards him with a disapproving frown and shakes her head.
“If they want to, we won’t…object, but as it stands it’s not something we are going to encourage they pursue.” Martin says to his father as he escorts Penny over to Quentin as she carefully and adorably extends the glass of water to him.
“Thank you, sweetie.” Quentin smiles, kindly takes the glass of filtered water, and kisses his niece’s forehead. He enjoys a drink of the water and sighs contently.
“You’re welcome, Uncle Q” Penny beams with a bright little smile.
“Not an elbow drop! Ah!” They hear Josh shout from the next room, followed by Remi’s hearty laughter.
Christian quickly runs into the kitchen from the living room and giggles. “When are we gonna have cake? Because my brother’s kicking Unca Josh’s butt.”
“I wanna see!” Penny giggles.
“We’re gonna have cake when the party get started, then all your new friends from school can also all help beat Josh up.” Martin says, setting Penny down so Christian can take her to go see Josh getting beaten up. Like a good older brother, Christian takes his younger sister to the living room by the hand very gently.
“Though I do think if you want to REALLY have fun beating up Josh you should tell your brother to come to my office.” Martin says.
“What is in the office?” Daniel asks. Martin smirks.
“I moved all my stuff out and turned it into a ball pit for the day.” Martin says.
Quentin blinks and raises an eyebrow. “Someone’s been burning the midnight oil.” He chuckles.
Abruptly, the wall scrolls slip from Xaria’s grasp and fall onto the kitchen floor. As a right-handed person, her instinct to reach out with her right hand causes her to wince and she retracts a little. “Ah! Shoot… I-I’m sorry…”
Martin rushes to the side of his wife.
“It’s okay sweetie… We’ve got help now. Just sit down and relax, okay?” Martin says, placing a soothing hand on her arm.
“Oui… desolé.” She apologizes in her native tongue before she’s helped to a seat by her husband.
Quentin sets his glass down on the dining table and makes his way over to collect the wall scrolls. Strangely enough, he opens up one of Captain America, Steve Rogers, and looks back to the others. “Here, I’ll put up the decorations. Where are the push pins?”
Remi steps back into the kitchen, looks at the wall scroll, then looks at his father. “...the resemblance is uncanny.”
“Really?” Quentin looks back at the image and shrugs. “Eh, I don’t see it.”
Martin sits with his wife and takes her left hand.
“Today is a good day. Do not focus on the negative.” Martin says. The sounds of their children playing is in the air. Their family is there.
Xaria looks at her husband for a moment before she takes a deep breath. “You’re right, mon amour.” She squeezes his hand and smiles softly.
“This is a fantastic day.”
