Austen: Babe. Come on with the popcorn. We said it’s going to be a chill night. I got this classic movie Hunter recommended to me.
Mercedes hurries into the living room of their Oceanside, California home as she sits on the couch next to him. Austen wraps his arm around her, as she snuggles up with him.
Austen: This is a movie called Sixteen Candles. I guess it is like a classic 1980’s movie or something.
The movie begins as the two of them watch it. He kisses the top of her head as they were making use of the time they had left before the wedding. Downtime was rare, and this was a rare night to just be relaxing on the couch.
Mercedes: You never heard of Sixteen Candles?
She looks at him, even with her still snuggled up into him. She was surprised he hadn’t, but she didn’t mind watching it. She hadn’t seen it, but had heard of it. She smiles lightly, as she had the bowl of popcorn in her lap, as she looks towards the screen. Austen leans into her and whispers into her ear…
Austen: I love you.
He reaches his hand out to her hand and locks his fingers in with hers. He looks down at her ring.
Austen: Can I ask you something?
Mercedes looks at him.
Mercedes: I love you too, but sure you can ask me anything.
She was curious, no sure what he could be wanting to ask her. She bites her bottom lip, while she keeps looking.
Austen: Did you go to prom in high school? Or do the whole homecoming thing? Dances? Date football jock? Be a cheerleader? You know, the whole stereotypical thing?
Mercedes: I went to dances, and did homecoming. The prom I went to, but I wasn’t a cheerleader, and didn’t date the football jocks. Why?
She was really curious as to why he was asking.
Austen: Oh. A social butterfly?
He wrinkles his lips as he looked back over his shoulder, and then looks back.
Mercedes: I guess kinda… why babe?
She was still trying to figure out what he was up to
Austen: Nothing. It’s fine.
He leans his head back into her as they continue to watch the movie.
Mercedes: I… ummm… okay.
She was still feeling like something was going on but wasn’t sure what. She keeps watching the movie while trying to figure it out. Austen continues to watch the movie as it comes to an end, Austen reaches for the remote to turn it off. Mercedes turns towards him, as he looks over his back once more.
Mercedes: What do you keep looking over your back for?
Mercedes was curious, as she looks at him. She was trying to figure it out, as she bites her bottom lip. She was nervous in a way, as she knew he was up to something.
Austen: Nothing. Did you want something to eat? You hungry?
He moves to stand up.
She stays sitting down. She smirks.
Mercedes: Austen Blackwell you better tell me why….
Austen: It’s dumb. Nevermind.
Mercedes: What’s dumb? Come on babe, tell me. I want to know.
She frowns, as she keeps looking at him. She knew he was hiding something, but wasn’t sure if she could get him to tell her.
Austen: I wasn’t sure if you- well, let me just show you.
He hangs his head as he disappears into the next room, and he returns with something behind his back.
Austen: Now, don’t laugh.
Mercedes: I won’t laugh, just tell me. I wanna knowwww.
Mercedes whimpers, wanting him to show her. He pulls out a blue jacket from behind his back. He unfolds it and it is a letterman jacket with the initials “AB” in white.
Austen: For you.
Mercedes: Really? You sure you want to give me it?
She takes it, as she looks at it. Before he even answers, she puts it on, as she smiles widely at him.
Mercedes: I always wondered how one would feel wearing it. Thank you baby.
She goes to give him a kiss.
Austen: I, uh… I didn’t really date in high school. And I had this made. I wanted to give it to you as something before our wedding.
He bites his lip nervously, reminding her of the Austen that she first met on the pier.
Mercedes: Babe it is so sweet. I am glad you thought of it. You don’t know how much this means to me really.
Mercedes reaches for Austen, to pull him towards her, as she wraps her arms around him, kissing him.He kisses her back.
Austen: I was thinking we could sort of- nevermind.
He shuts up.
Mercedes: Sort of what? Come on babe, I won’t think it’s dumb. I want to hear. Don’t make me whine….
Austen: Maybe tonight we go out on a date. And you can wear my jacket. I’ll open doors for you, and walk you to the door. Just things like that.
Mercedes: Why did you say nevermind? I like that, an old fashioned date in a way. Babe, I love you, I want to do it. Don’t be scared to ask me, or want to do these things. I think it would be fun.
Austen: Really? It would be fun. You remember that diner… with the milkshakes?
Mercedes: Yeah I do. You want to go there again?
She looks at him, as she smiled. They had only went to it once, but had enjoyed it. He nods.
Austen: We can go see a movie and get a bite to eat afterwards. You… you really want that?
She nods her head.
Mercedes: YES!!!!
She laughs, as she hoped he realized she wanted to with her saying that.
Austen: Well I am going to go get dressed. Okay? Give me like fifteen minutes.
She nods her head.
Mercedes: Fifteen minutes you got it. I will be waiting for you. Hurry up, gooooo.
She laughs. He hurries up the stairs as he grabs a button up, some black slacks, and has a bowtie just for the occasion. He heads back down the stairs as Mercedes is dolled up, ready, and wearing the jacket.
Austen: Babe…
Mercedes: Yeah babe?
She looks at him, as she smiles. She was wearing a black skirt, and shirt.
Austen: Just wow. You look… wow….
He steps towards her and kisses her passionately as they get ready to head out for their evening.
