REMI FONTAINE
EX Chapter 1-5: C H A O T I C !
West Coast Genesis Unscripted Vs. Kimo
First Person View: Quentin Fontaine!
I’m not sure whether I should be astounded or proud.
From behind the camera, I watch my son as he focuses on his studies. Midterms are coming up and I understand the need to study, but… the camera’s on. He said he was going to work on a quick promotional video for his Unscripted opponent, Kimo. So why is he doing this?
As a father, I’m absolutely perplexed.
As a teacher, I’m overcome with joy.
Suffice to say, this is a first. Clearing my throat, I call out to him. “Remi?”
“I’m almost done.” He simply answers before he turns to the next page in the U.S. History II textbook. His eyes look at the page and he jots down a couple sentences in a notebook full of historical names, facts, and important notes. Once this is done, he closes the notebook, closes the textbook, and sets them both aside.
“Right…” He exhales slowly. “Signore Kimo.” He looks up towards the camera and smiles. “You’ll have to pardon my studious demeanor, midterms start this Monday and I’m only allowed to use my hand-written notes. But I have also taken the time to study you as well.”
He twirls the fine black ink pen in his right hand with the simplest of ease. I tilt my head in wonder. In recent time, my son has taken on a new demeanor. He’s not as eccentric and wild as he usually is. Maybe this has something to do with his sessions with Daniel Fitzsimmons.
I still don’t trust that man…
I saw the last promotional video and it made my skin crawl. As much as I hated the mannerisms of his teachings, they helped my son win his match on Hype, something he was unable to do before. I can’t deny the success, but I can feel uncomfortable with the training regimen.
“It appears you have a long lineage of martial arts. Your ruthless and aggressive style has granted you the nickname “Savage”. You’re a former two-time Undisputed Heavyweight Champion among your list of accomplishments. It’s clear your résumé is nothing short of impressive. You even have some… acting experience.”
Remi chuckles softly and shakes his head. “You took a break from wrestling… Why? If you had so much success in the industry, why did you leave? Were you concerned for your wellbeing? You are thirty-years-old, but still, you seem to be in the prime of your life. Your physique is near-pristine. I’m not ogling you by any means. I have a sexy boyfriend to do this to. I’m just trying to better understand you, not just as my opponent, but as a fellow member of the West Coast Genesis roster. I want to get to know you… so I can deconstruct you.” A grin crosses his face as he pushes his glasses up with a finger.
“Now I know what you’re thinking, why has Signorina Mercedes booked me in a match against this boy? Why I’m just a kid, right? I’m only eighteen-years-old and I have a little over a year of wrestling training. It sounds too easy, right?” He raises his right hand’s index finger. “But wait, Signore Kimo, there’s more. You see, I work under the formerly-named “Prince Wadjethotep” Tyberius King, “The Rainbow Angel” Xaria Karloff, and most recently Daniel Daemon. All three of them are legends in the wrestling industry. I have taken the time to learn everything I can from them, and even to this day, there is still so much I need to learn. Even now, the new lessons surprise me. While you may be in the prime of your life, my life, my development, has yet to truly begin.”
A confident smirk crosses his face now as he places his right hand on his chest where his heart would be.
“My heart is racing for more experience.”
He then moves his hand and taps the side of his head.
“My mind is craving more knowledge and wisdom.”
He extends his right arm and wags his finger with a ‘tsk, tsk, tsk’. “I may be working towards earning my Associates in Arts degree in Ethnicity, but wrestling is my heart and soul. There are no breaks. There’s no stopping me. This is my life, Kimo, and you’re going to understand that loud and clear tonight. Hashtag Get Wrecked.”
He snaps his fingers, picks up his backpack, and strides into the Long Beach Convention Center with confidence.
I guess it’s show time.
