Scene opens with a shot of people milling about the mall, All we can hear above the din of conversations is the canned “mall music”. Leaning up against the railing, looking down through to the floor below, we find the West Coast Champion Donovan Basch.
Donovan: What was it that you said to Shawn Young, Pridmore? That you deserve high profile matches against the biggest names in West Coast Genesis?
Well, it looks like you got what you wanted, because you’re getting a match against the very best that this company has to offer…. The reigning West Coast Champion…. ME.
What you feel you deserve and what your actions earn you, in this case, are nearly polar opposites.
Depending on how you look at it, this is either going to be a career highlight, or it’s going to be a rather arduous endeavor.
Donovan stands back up and looks at the camera.
Donovan: After what happened at the last episode of Hype, I guarantee that it WON’T be much of a highlight, James. At least, not for you.
Am I angry? Yes, I am. Knowing that you and I were facing off at Unscripted, I could very well have made a scene at Austen Blackwell’s bachelor party, but that would have ruined his evening.
The West Coast Champion shakes his head.
Donovan: But ruining YOUR evening? I have no problem with that.
He pauses a bit, looking out into the throng of humanity around him, as if he were searching for something. Not finding it, he turns back to the camera.
Donovan: From Day 1, your mouth ran non-stop about the legacy that your family has left on this industry. Yes, your cousin has blazed a trail that few could match, and thus far, you’ve done your best to emulate that. The part that annoyed everyone was how obnoxious you were about it.
But once you became involved with Julianna Dimaria, you cranked the “obnoxious” dial up to 11, ripped the knob off, and heaved it in the garbage.
But now that Julianna defeated Melina Garrison and was promoted to the NGW roster, where is all of your customary bravado? You’ve been silent since your girlfriend has gone, but to me, it’s a moot point. You talked yourself into a corner, and now you have to pay for that.
At Unscripted, all the annoyance that you, your cousin, and your girlfriend have heaped upon my shoulders gets released, right in your face. It won’t be pretty, it won’t be refined, but you can bet your life it’ll be effective. You see for me, it’s not simply about defeating you, Pridmore, it’s about humbling you. It’s about making you realize that you can only use your associations in this industry to get you so far. If you don’t have the skill to back it up, you will find yourself in a rather dire predicament. And in this instance, it won’t end well.
Donovan straightens up suddenly and turns around to find his wife, South Bay Champion Danielle Basch tapping him on the shoulder.
Danielle: Hmmm, looks like you made effective use of your time….
Donovan: Didn’t see you come out of Windsor…
Danielle: Just came out. You were busy ripping Pridmore a new asshole….
Donovan: Well, now that you’re here, we can focus on something a little more pleasant….
Danielle: You’re right…. I still wanted to swing by Spencer’s Gifts before we leave...
Before Donovan can answer, Danielle grabs him by the arm and drags him off as the scene fades out.
