-Never wrestled in New Mexico before. Mostly because there’s nothing to do here. Nothing but sand and flat land for miles upon miles. Reminds me of Nebraska but instead of sand it’s corn fields. I like venues like this one because the fans are more appreciative than most because wrestling shows never come down here that often. In New York or in Los Angles you’re just another body who’s in the way to a persons next tv commercial or their next botox injection. Here though in small little cities like Roswell where the only people that come here are UFO nerds, it’s nice to be entertained by someone who’s actually real and not made up.
-My body hurts and I’m sweating like a dog. Just got done defending my CWC Junior Heavyweight Title in an arena who’s air conditioning is on the fritz. Stepping through the curtain I toss the title over to Olivia who catches it and places it in my title duffle bag. A stage hand hands me a water bottle and I quickly grab it. A medical trainer comes over to me and hands me a bag filled with ice and I take it as well as I place it on my neck. Just a minor stinger but I’m ok. Taking a swig of water I gingerly make my way down the hall way.
-Turning a corner I’m met by a small camera crew that’s already rolling. Damn it Chris. I’m not in the mood for this crap. I look over at Olivia and I stare a whole right through her. She shrugs and acts like she knew nothing about this.
Olivia Newman: “I had no idea Jack.”
-I roll my eyes as I look back at the camera crew. I’m about of breath, I’m slightly dehydrated and I’m not in the mood to talk to anyone. But Chris scheduled this for a reason so I might as well play the cards I’m dealt. Taking a big swig of my water, I toss the bottle to the ground and wish I could enjoy it more because my throat is dry. I keep the ice bag though because it’s the only thing keeping the pain at ease on my neck. With a calm and collective tone in my voice.....I begin to speak.
Jack Tillman: “Believe.......believe is one of those words you tell children when they’re scared and don’t believe in themselves. Believe is one of those words you tell people that are on their death beds and have lost all hope to continue to fight. Believe is one of those words you tell scared little boys and girls who have lost all confidence in themselves.
It’s a word to help individuals to cope with that fact that there is no way that they can or will survive a specific predicament....but it’s all a lie because people would rather like to hear a lie than the truth. Because it’s easier to know a lie than it is know a truth. And you know what Adrian? Every time you say Believe or put out that #Believe on twitter or on the titan tron.....you’re just lying to your friends, family, fans and even yourself. Just small little lies to help cope with this idea that you can lead your sheep to the promise land.
But you’re right in trying to believe yourself. You need to tell yourselves that you need to survive. You need to hear it from people because it’s nice to hear it from people that you’re a success. That you’re the best. That you’re this and that you’re like that. Just like a pampered child who gets satisfaction every time someone tells him how great he is. It’s like getting a piece of candy. It taste so good. But you need to look yourself in the mirror and remind yourself that you have what it takes to defeat us. That you’re special. That people respect you and darn it.....people like you.”
-A slight grin comes crawling across my face as I take the ice bag that’s been on my neck and toss it out of the cameras view. The grin soon dies away as I slowly make my way towards the camera like a killer would as he’s hunting his prey. Slow and with a methodical.
Jack Tillman: “Myself and Shields though......we don’t need to tell ourselves how good we are. We go out there and do it without hesitation. We don’t tell people that we’re going to hurt people.....we go out and do it. We don’t need to convince everyone that we’re going to win titles. We go out and do it.”
-I look over at Olivia and mouth the word tag title. She quickly reaches into the bag and pulls out the NGW Tag Belt. I wave it over to me because I want to make a point to Adrien and Jessica. Olivia obliges and tosses it into my hand. Grasping the title, I hold it in front of the camera so that Jessica and Adrien can see it.
Jack Tillman: “Is this piece of cheap metal and leather really worth the pain and suffering that will soon follow as soon as that bell rings? The two of you know what Shields and I are capable of. You’ve felt it first hand. It’s ok to be scared. It’s a human emotion that can get the best of us. Just tell yourself to believe though and everything will be alright. Tell the rest of your fans that you have this match in hand. Lie to the masses like you always do and tell them that you stand a chance. Tell them that the Easter Bunny is real, Santa Clause shows up and hands out gifts every Christmas Eve, and that the Guardians stand a chance against the Destroyers. But to kill a monster.....you need a monster to kill it. Jessica Sears......Adrien Cochrane......you’re not monsters. You’re two little children playing a game that you just can’t win.”
-By now I’m close enough to where it should be showing my upper body. Sweat is rolling down my face and my face feels warm from my match still. There’s a little twitch in my eye as I think of hurtful things that I shall do in the near future. I need to finish this segment so that I can cool off and get some fluid in me. My tone is still low and I’m still in control of myself as I look to finish this promo.
Jack Tillman: “Good verses Evil. Light verses Dark. Angels vs. Demons. God vs. The Devil. You want these tag title from Shields and I? Then go ahead and slip that quarter into the slot Jessica and Adrien and play this game because when it’s all said and done.......”
-Taking my index finger I tap the camera lens and lean forward so that the camera is only showing my face.
Jack Tillman: “Game Over.”
-Leaning back, I walk past the camera and towards my locker room. Olivia closely follows as I’m guessing the scene fades to black .
