“Damon Graves, greetings! Yes...my name is not Adrien Cochrane, but fear not, for I am his trigger-happy replacement!!”
Once the cameras start rolling, the expectation was seeing the blonde hair of the Dropkick King. The presumption was to see the piercing blue eyes of the three-time World Heavyweight Champion staring into the camera as he begins to speak about what he believes will happen the next time he steps into the ring.
But that’s not who we see. Instead, we see the older eyes and spiked dark hair of his best friend and manager, Edward Thomas Walker. His own house acts as the backdrop for him as the video feed begins. Little Jack Walker is running around the house with Walker’s wife, Skye, chasing after him. Eddie pays no mind to what is going on behind him. His focus is absolute and unwavering from the camera in front of him. The position of the sun behind Walker and the presence of his schoolteacher wife are enough clues to piece together that it is late afternoon in Slidell, Louisiana.
“I’m not one hundred percent sure where my client’s current location is and the plan was to do this video today so I decided to just do this myself. I do this on occasion anyway, right?
“Anyway, Damon Graves. That is the subject at hand, yes? I remember the last time you and my client were going to face off in the ring. Actually, it was the only time you have been in a ring together. And that was a big tag team galore match. It was you and Avery, Adrien and Jessica then Radicalliance, the Ronnie and Kaylee edition. And I remember your words before that match too.
“First of all, you began talking about how the Guardians is ‘only the Adrien Cochrane show’ and then called him an egomaniac because you think that the correct solution for getting rid of the Destroyers is adopting their opinions and attitudes. I didn’t realize that Matthew Shields had created a mask that looks just like Damon Graves or you were just doing your best impersonation of him. But you actually talked about how the Guardians were just as bad as the Destroyers BEFORE QUOTING THE DESTROYERS VERBATIM!! I’m sorry, but the rest of Rebel Society seems like they want to GET RID of the Destroyers. You give me the vibe that you’re actually just bitter that you weren’t invited into the Destroyers fan club and haven’t reformed your pro-Destroyers way of thinking.
“It’s also completely off base. Well, almost everything you said in that was, but this one specifically. I think I mentioned this once before actually…”
Eddie reflects back on the video he taped before the triple threat tag match.
“Adrien has put a great deal of effort into trying to make sure everyone pays more attention to the other three. He has spent a lot of camera time talking about how talented and gifted Jessica, Jazmyn, and Joshua are. Don’t believe me. I’ll wait. Go look at his last few promo videos he did.”
Eddie gives Damon, and any other viewer a second to see that two of the last three promo videos recorded by Adrien has gone quite in-depth defending the other three members of the Guardians.
“If he is an egomaniac who wants everyone to look at him, he’s sure spending a whole lot of time trying to make everyone look elsewhere. He literally took advantage of all of you only worrying about him to set himself up as a decoy so he could pin YOUR tag team partner because you made it obvious you were ignorant of the talents of his partner. This is a man who has given your wife a wedding gift and a baby shower gift immediately after losses to your wife because of how much of a professional the man is. Think about this: there are items inside of YOUR home that was given to your family by the man you think is all about himself.
“Allow me to speak my mind for a moment. This is what I really think is going on here, Damon. You aren’t actually paying attention. You just blindly follow whatever the hell is going on and just roll with it. Destroyers bad? Hmm...seems like most of the company seems to think so. Must be true. Adrien is the only Guardian that matters? I think I heard that opinion a few times. Gotta be it! Adrien is an egomaniac? That Matthew Shields cat seems to say that a lot so there must be some truth behind it.
“COME UP WITH AN ORIGINAL THOUGHT, DAMON!!! YOU ARE BETTER THAN THAT!!!”
Eddie’s voice raises enough where Skye and Jack both briefly turn from what they are doing to look in the direction of their family’s patriarch. It was only a moment before they resumed to running around the backyard. Walker’s tone is back to what it was prior to the shouting he did in his last two sentences.
“You’re going to bring up Adrien’s losses to Aurora, I’m sure. You’re going to bring up the fact Adrien is the only member of his team not to hold a title in the last month. You’re probably going to insult and/or threaten me with all the things I’ve said on Adrien’s behalf. God, I hope you’re smart enough not to repeat those ignorant remarks you made about Adrien last time. But the ending is inevitable. Adrien is one of the most talented people in this industry, even if I seemed to have lost track of his current location. This is a man who has overcome many odds in his career to prove that he can beat anyone on any given match.
“Adrien Cochrane is a shining star. And he can win a main event. Can you step up your game to compete with one of the best we have, Damon? You better #Believe you can if you want any chance of leaving that ring as the victor, that’s for sure. My money...I’m putting it on the Dropkick King. Nothing personal, Damon. You’re talented. But I know what he can do.”
Walker’s phone chimes in his pocket, prompting the forty-one-year-old to pull it out and look at the alert on it. The eyes widen immediately opening the alert.
“And now I know where he is. Something to do with Josh’s upcoming wedding or something…”
Walker starts walking off the camera, still staring at his phone to read more about what his client was up to. The video feed eventually cuts off.
