(GIVE JJ HIS DAMN POINT FOR WRITING JAZMYN, STEVE!!)
Date: Monday, February 19th, 2018

“You really think you’re making a wise decision just saying, ‘Oh, who cares about my condition?! I want to keep wrestling!’”
Adrien Cochrane was ignoring the words exiting the lips of his manager. Eddie Walker doesn’t like being ignored by his best friend, so this triggers a volume raise from the forty-one-year-old.
Eddie: “OI! I’M TALKING TO YOU!! Why didn’t you tap out, Adrien?! Now you’re back to wearing that damn brace!!”
Cochrane was no longer wearing his #Believe shirt or tights he wore just a few hours ago in his match against Jazmyn Rain. He took a shower immediately after without even realizing how much his knee hurt until he got dressed in his regular clothes once more. As Eddie noted, Adrien had the knee brace back on, visible underneath the shorts he is wearing.
Adrien: “Jazmyn deserved the best match I could give her.”
Eddie: “And you saw her Twitter reaction to losing, right?”
Walker yanks out his phone and holds it in front of Adrien.
Adrien takes a second to read the tweet. He immediately pulls out his phone from inside his bag to reply to her tweet, which gives a bit of an annoyed reaction from Eddie Walker.
Eddie: “You know she is still in the building, right?”
Adrien hits the send button as he looks back up to Walker.
Adrien: “Is she?”
Eddie nods his head, so enthusiastically that his spiked hair could have been used as a weapon.
Eddie: “Yeah. She hasn’t left yet. Just make sure that you take it easy on your…”
Adrien immediately leaps out of his seat, ignoring the dull pain coming from his knee as he passes Walker to enter the hallway. He remembers Rain’s locker room was just two doors from his, and sure enough, the door was still closed with the name “Jazmyn Rain” still on the nameplate. Most of the empty locker rooms left their doors open. But this one still being closed was a sign to Adrien that Rain was probably still on the other side. Knowing that she could be changing, he knocks on the door. It doesn’t take long for Jazmyn to answer the door, but when she does, some tears are rolling down her face. However, she takes a second to wipe them away, trying to be as strong as possible even though the reality may be the opposite. Taking a deep breath, she gains the composure to talk.
Jazmyn: “Yes?”
Adrien: “Jazmyn?”
The sight of seeing Rain so broken hurt him. He was beginning to think that if he saw her for too long, he might shed a few of those tears. This is what he was afraid would happen if he won the match. But the match is over. This is about making sure Jazmyn is going to be alright moving forward.
Adrien: “Hey, you alright?”
Jazmyn: “Trying to be… but I don’t think I am. I’m questioning so much right now!”
Adrien frowns a little bit before opening up his arms. Jazmyn leans into a quick, but warm embrace. Adrien pats the back of her head during this hug before releasing the moment he feels her pulling away.
Adrien: “Listen, you don’t have anything to be ashamed of. You gave me one of the toughest battles I’ve had in this entire company. And I’ve fought Shields, Maverick, Richards, Coda, and Aurora. I mean that.”
Jazmyn: “It’s just… everything, you know? I win a Rising Star award, but I don’t feel like I’ve lived up to that. Then you have all these people being bitter about a darn poster I didn’t even ask to be on. Then it’s just… I didn’t want to go through with this match and I know there was at least a part of you that didn’t. My confidence isn’t… well… great.”
Jazmyn sighs, struggling to come to a middle ground with the circumstances in play. Adrien closes his eyes momentarily before reopening them.
Adrien: “I didn’t want to hurt your confidence. I want to build you up, Jazmyn. Not bring you down. But at the same time, I wanted you to give me everything you got so that everyone could see just how talented you are. And you deserved the same from me. I wanted you to be proud of how hard you fought, no matter the result.”
Jazmyn: “Well… that’s not exactly easy when Jack Tillman goes out and beats the World Champion now, is it? Seeing THAT made me wonder if I even have what it takes!”
Jazmyn pauses, turning and walking into the locker room but leaving the door open. Getting halfway in, she turns around to face Adrien to resume the conversation.
Jazmyn: “I deal with so much pressure, so much of it is caused by noise. I’ve reached the point where it’s overwhelmed me. It’s nothing you’ve done. I grew up with self-esteem issues Adrien. There’s always this little piece of me that seems to never stop filling my head with negativity no matter what I do.”
Adrien limps into the room, taking a seat to get the weight off his knee before turning back towards Jazmyn.
Adrien: “Do you know how much negative noise I hear all the time?”
Jazmyn: “How much?”
Adrien: “Basically, all of the noise the world can throw at me. You know Matthew Shields has taken to sending a daily tweet with ridiculous reasons why he’s better than me. There’s always going to be noise. There’s always going to be someone telling you that you aren’t good enough. No matter what. If they aren’t, that means they aren’t paying attention, and that’s honestly worse.”
Jazmyn: “Yeah… you’re right about that.”
Jazmyn sighs.
Jazmyn: “I just wish that attention wasn’t so negative!”
Adrien: “This isn’t just an NGW invention either. When I was getting ready to challenge for the #FSociety Heavyweight Championship, I was HOUNDED on Twitter by so many people. Almost all of them were friends with the champion at the time. I would get ten tweets a day. They would even go after my then-girlfriend. They talked so badly about her, it wasn’t even funny. I’m talking the way Shields talks to Jessica bad.”
The Dropkick King sighs after remembering some of those words he would wake up to on his phone.
Adrien: “No one gave me a chance. And I didn’t have a Guardians there that believed in me. The closest thing I had was Kenzie and Adam. And they were biased; they were living in my guest room.”
Jazmyn: “Nobody ever believed I’d even get THIS far in my wrestling career when you first started. ‘Oh, you’re 25. You’re too old to be starting’, they’d tell me. My fiance, my behind-the-scenes agent and you guys can offer all the praise in the world, but it’s never going to silence the noise. No brilliantly-produced vignette about the struggles I overcame to get here is going to change Tillman’s opinion about me… not like that opinion even matters anyway…”
Adrien: “You can win ten thousand World Titles, and it will never silence some. After I won that title, it didn’t stop anything. But it gave me a new perspective on everything. It told me just how much the words matter: absolutely zero. Their words are empty and pathetic. And they did that because they were insecure about just what I was prepared to do. That’s actually the whole point of this little shirt…”
Adrien just so happened to be donning the #Believe t-shirt. Not the sleeveless one he wears to the ring, but the regular one that has short sleeves.
Adrien: “Did I ever tell you how #Believe got started?”
Jazmyn: “No… at least not that I recall anyway…”
Adrien: “It’s about overcoming what you’re going through. It’s about how no matter how slim the odds are everyone gives you, you believe in yourself and your own abilities to succeed. It’s about making sure that all that noise...it’s ignored. It’s all about what you know you can do and doing it. I believe in my abilities. I believe that I can win any given match in any given match. Doesn’t mean I can’t lose; I obviously do on occasion. But I have a chance in every match I’m in. Every. Single. One.”
Jazmyn nods as the tears are starting to dry up.
Jazmyn: “Typically, that’s my mindset too. Some nights, it’s just so hard to stay with it. I’m just scared sometimes that I’ll end up like some highly hyped wrestlers that came to NGW and failed to live up to it… not naming names… but that’s the thing. I don’t want to fail. I don’t want to me this big screw up that lets everyone down. I don’t know what to do with our match right now… like how do I go forward from it to grow?”
Adrien: “You win the next one. It’s what you should always do after losing a match. You get up, dust yourself off, and figure out what you’re going to do in the next match. YO EDDIE!!!”
Since Adrien was only two doors down from his locker room that still had Eddie Walker in occupying it. Walker, able to hear Adrien’s call, pokes his head into Jazmyn Rain’s locker room.
Adrien: “Do you know the next matches for me and Jazmyn yet?”
Walker’s eyes widen for a moment. He pulls out his phone once more and sees a message that he’s been getting after each and every show: the matches for the next one before they are officially announced. He begins reading from top to bottom.
Eddie: “Adrien, you’re going to be main eventing against Damon Graves. And Jazmyn, you’re facing...umm...oh wow…”
Jazmyn: “Hmm???”
Eddie blinks a few times before replying to Jazmyn Rain. Even Adrien is getting very curious about what’s on Eddie’s phone.
Eddie: “Matthew Shields…”
Jazmyn’s eyes widen in surprise before they narrow with a hint of anger.
Jazmyn: “Oh gosh… HIM??? Oh, that son of a… I KNOW he is the kind of person that is going to prey on how I am feeling right now! No! I can’t let that happen. I NEED to be strong… for us… and especially Jessica… and I have a personal stake in this too…”
Jazmyn pauses, a determined glare back in her eyes as there are no longer any signs of tears.
Jazmyn: “After all… he cowered out of our last encounter… and all this ‘least important Guardian’ talk… don’t think I’ve forgotten that! I know how to grow from this, pardon my language...but I grow from this by bouncing back and beating his fucking ass!!!!"
Adrien: “There we go! THAT’S the Jazmyn Rain I want to see!!”
Eddie: “It appears I have done something right. Yay…”
Walker nods his head before disappearing into the hallway, calling out to Adrien before he turns the corner down the hall.
Eddie: “I’ll be tracking down Everalda and getting the car ready!”
Adrien smiles before turning back to Jazmyn.
Adrien: “I want you to know that I have the utmost faith in you. You wanted to take down a big main event name to cement yourself as a legitimate threat. This is your chance. You can defeat the man that started this whole mission, the man who has treated you like you’re a lackey and the man who has given so much nightmare fuel to someone we love dearly…”
Adrien thinks about how Jessica confided in him that she’s had nightmares every night since Matthew Shields whispered something he’d dare not repeat to anyone.
Adrien: “Jessica will need you to win this for her. Then you can show that when the chips are down and the Guardians need the win, Jazmyn Rain, GCW Global Champion, delivers.”
Jazmyn finally is able to smile, her confidence back in full swing.
Jazmyn: “That match is going to be my coming out party and darn it, I’m going to win it for her! I promise and guarantee that!”
Adrien: “Atta girl. I’m proud of you. Look at you, going from crying to ready to fight in just a few minutes!!”
Jazmyn can’t help but laugh.
Jazmyn: “Thanks! You have no idea how much this means to me!”
Adrien: “Always, dear.”
Adrien tries to stand up, forgets about his knee hurting and stumbles a bit before regaining his balance.
Adrien: “I’m okay, I’m okay!!”
Jazmyn smiles some more for a bit.
Jazmyn: “WE’RE okay, though all of this! And that’s what matters the most!”
Adrien: “I better find Eddie and Everalda so I can get back to the hotel. I’ll see you again soon, yes?”
Adrien limps closer to hug Jazmyn goodbye.
Jazmyn: “Definitely!”
Jazmyn walks closer to him, both of them wrapping their arms around one another for another hug.
Adrien: “I love you and believe in you. And I’ll say that I believe in you as many times as you need.”
Adrien smiles before releasing the hug.
Jazmyn: “Thank you! The love and the faith… right back at you!”
Jazmyn takes a sigh of relief, completing her fill circle roller coaster of emotions she just experienced as Adrien leaves her locker room.

Close your tired eyes, relax and then
Count from one to ten and open them
All these heavy thoughts will try to weigh you down
But not this time
Way up in the air, you're finally free
And you can stay up there right next to me
All this gravity will try to pull you down
But not this time
When the sun goes down and the lights burn out
Then it's time for you to shine
Brighter than a shooting star
So shine no matter where you are
Fill the darkest night with a brilliant light
'Cause it's time for you to shine
Brighter than a shooting star
So shine no matter where you are tonight
Woah-oh, woah-oh, woah-oh
Brighter than a shooting star
Shine no matter where you are tonight

Gaze into my eyes when the fire starts
And fan the flames so hot it melts our hearts
Oh, the pouring rain will try to put it out
But not this time
Let your colors burn and brightly burst
Into a million sparks that all disperse
And illuminate a world that'll try to bring you down
But not this time
When the sun goes down and the lights burn out
Then it's time for you to shine
Brighter than a shooting star
So shine no matter where you are
Fill the darkest night with a brilliant light
'Cause it's time for you to shine
Brighter than a shooting star
So shine no matter where you are tonight
Woah-oh, woah-oh, woah-oh
