I found myself sitting back on the couch in Nikko’s apartment. My fingers aimlessly playing with the hem of the oversized white shirt I was wearing, thinking over what I wanted to talk to him about. I hadn't told him about all the changes yet and it made me nervous. Here's this amazing guy that I happened upon in Vegas but he's got a job here, a life here. FSociety is to thank for me finding him, mostly being in Vegas and all but now… I'm going to be traveling all over and he can't just pack up and go with me.
I let a sigh slip past my lips as I looked over to the kitchen area, watching the man make us some hot chocolate. The hardest thing is I think I love him but I don't want to say that… Traveling for shows and everything I can't really say I can stay in Vegas. I might need to move back home because of all this until I start making enough to support myself without worry. I sunk into that couch, all these thoughts running through my head. It had me so distracted that I didn’t even notice that Nikko had already come out of the kitchen and was holding a pair of mugs, reaching one out to me.
“Here ya go Fi. Careful though it’s still pretty hot.”
His voice snapped me out of my thoughts, looking up at him with a soft smile as I reached out and took the mug.
“Thanks, baby.”
Looking down to the hot cocoa, thinking it over a bit more.
“Sooo, how's work been?”
He sat down next to me before giving a shrug.
‘I guess it’s been alright… Starting to slow down a bit, though. Never did care much for this time of the year. Not that I don’t like the holidays or anything, but it hurts my tips, ya know?”
He took a sip from his mug before turning his attention back to me.
“How’s FSociety been treating you? I’ve been looking forward to watching your next match.”
I cringed a bit at the mention of FSociety.
“Well, you see… What happened was… I kind of quit.”
He gave a slow nod, taking another sip of the hot cocoa before quickly turning his head and spitting it out, turning his head back to me again. My eyes widening at his reaction to the news.
“You did what now?! Why?! What happened?!”
“I found somewhere else. I don't feel like I was really fitting in there and I happened across this other company and took a job with them.”
I took a sip from my mug, looking up over at Nikko to see his reaction. He managed to let out a sigh of relief, smiling a bit as he let himself relax in his seat.
“I thought you were about to say you quit and were going back home… Glad to hear another place was quick to take you, though. What place did you sign up with? Are they stationed here too?”
His words were a bit heartbreaking, causing me to look down, my head shaking slightly.
“Redemption travels. I… I don't know if I'll be able to live here yet.”
This made him pause for a few moments, his jaw agape as my words suddenly hit him.
“Redemption… travels… and you’ll obviously be traveling with them I’d imagine…”
“Only every two weeks.”
And that was the wonderful attempt at trying to lessen the blow.
“Well… That’s not so bad, right? But you said you wouldn’t be able to stay here?”
“Money, I blow my extra money out here… Sometimes dipping into the money for my bills. My best bet might be going back home. Moving back in with my dad for a bit and saving up.”
Nikko opened his mouth like he was about to say something, but instead be hung his head down with a sigh.
“I can’t say I’m surprised… I can tell you a lot of stories about people new to vegas coming in and being unable to control themselves… I was gonna ask if you’d…”
He paused for a moment before slowly shaking his head.
“No… if it’s the casinos and everything taking your money that probably wouldn’t be a great idea…”
It was too late, my interest was peaked, almost ignoring that last little bit he said.
“If I'm going to move back home what good is it going to do for you not to tell me something? Especially when it might be your last chance.”
“Point taken...”
He took in a deep breath before letting out a sigh.
“I was gonna say… and tell me if this is moving too fast for you, because if it is you could forget I even mentioned it if you want to… Anyway… If all you need is a place to stay… I think I have enough room here for one more… If that would be an okay idea with you of course…’
I was a bit shocked by what he said, tilting my head to the side, my eyebrows furrowing in confusion.
“I… Wow… Um… Really?”
He bit his lower lip a little, looking down to his mug.
“Like I said… if that’s going too fast just say the word… But I’d hate for you to have to go back home like that… Just getting out from under your dad’s roof and all just to go right back a few months later… Not to mention… Well… I’d really miss you if you had to go…”
“I'd really miss you too… I've gotten used to this, to us. I feel like going home would be all but a death sentence to us.”
“So… stay with me then?”
He looked up from his cup to me again with a hopeful glance.
“It doesn’t have to be permanent… If you wanted you could get your own place again after you got on your feet.”
I placed my mug on the coffee table before turning back toward him.
“And what if I didn't want to leave?”
He placed his mug on the table, turning his full attention to me.
“If you didn’t want to leave… Well, we might wanna get a bigger place down the line… But I’m not about to kick you out… Fair warning though, we will be working on your loose grip with your funds. Leave funding the casinos to the tourists.”
I laughed at the words he spoke, nodding my head in agreement to what he said.
“I think I can handle those terms… Any reason why you're so up for this?”
He opened his mouth, about to speak before biting down on his lower lip a little.
“Well like I said… I’d really miss you… And as it is, we pretty much spend all of our free time together anyway… So why not cut out the travel time?”
“Oh… well if that’s the only reason.”
I leaned back into the couch a bit more, sighing softly.
“Those are all fair points, though. Cut the travel time, make it easier to see where this goes and on top of all of it, get a start in a new company.”
He hung his head, letting out a sigh.
“There might be one other reason… I wouldn’t offer a place to stay to just anyone of course… I mean… I tend to avoid roommates at all costs, but you… you’re special and… well... “
He trailed off a bit, causing me to tilt my head as I leaned toward him.
“Well… come on squishy, out with it.”
He laughed a little, lifting his head back up with a smile.
“It’s the little things like that… I doubt I would’ve let anyone else call me something like squishy… Honestly Fi… I love you… I love you and I’d hate for you to have to go back home now... “
Hearing those words I couldn’t hide the smile that broke out on my lips, lunging forward I practically tackled Nikko, squeezing him.
“I love you too my squishy, and imma hold you and squeeze you and kiss on you cause you’re mine, all mine.”
I let out a bit of a giggle as his arms found their way around me in a tight embrace.
“Only if I get to do the same to you.”
“As long as you want to.”
I guess at the end of the day more good came out of this discussion than bad did. I shouldn’t have been worried in the first place but now everything seems to be falling into place. I got him, I got a career and I feel better than I ever have. I’m ready to take on the world.
