“I’ve spent a lot of time doing what I do. And one of the things I discovered that not a whole lot of people might not know about this industry and this sport is that the hardest opponent you will ever encounter inside of that squared circle...is one of your best friends.”
Adrien Cochrane nods his head as the camera opens up to him. He hasn’t traveled to Europe yet for the upcoming show match in Frankfurt, Germany as the setting behind Adrien was the exterior of the home of Eddie Walker just a little north of New Orleans in Slidell, Louisiana. It was partly cloudy, the sun finding some space between the clouds every few minutes to shine brightly behind Adrien before disappearing between the stratocumulus translucidus clouds. The contemplative expression on Adrien is not the same one is used to seeing from the Dropkick King.
“Jazmyn Rain is one of those people who will be one of the most difficult matches I’ve ever faced. Similar to the time I faced Kenzie Rydell in #FSociety, it’s one thing to try to overcome the talent of your opponent. It’s a whole different battle when you also need to overcome your own personal feelings for the person stepping into the ring. To hit Kenzie Rydell with an Adrien Cutter and then to have to use the Crescent City Connection when the Adrien Cutter wasn’t enough...that was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done in the ring. Kenzie Rydell is one of the people on this planet I care about the most...she looks at me like a father figure, although I see her more as a little sister...
“And honestly, Jazmyn Rain isn’t really much further down that list.”
A glance at his feet is followed by yet another nod. The New Orleans native looks as though the next words that he wants to say are difficult for him to get to get through his throat.
“Jazmyn is the GCW Global Champion for a reason. She is right in the thick of the Five Lakes Championship division, and the person I believe will dethrone Jack Tillman, for a reason. Jazmyn Rain, whether people realize it or not, is one of the toughest competitors on this roster. I don’t care about anyone who gives the dissenting opinion on that. I appreciate your input, Kaylee Kassie, on how you perceive the value of Jazmyn Rain and Jessica Sears to the Guardians, but I think higher of them than that. So I’m going to politely and respectfully disagree. I have a bond with both of them...and Joshua Goldstein as well...that is invaluable. It can’t be measured.
“But back to Jazmyn. You don’t deserve a match against me where I don’t give you everything I’ve got. I don’t want a match against you where you don’t give me absolutely everything you have either. I want to make that absolutely clear right now. This is a contest where we are going to test one another. We’re going to show everyone that there is a lot of talent in this locker room and in our group. I want everyone to remember our match as a showcase of some of the best wrestling they’ve seen.”
Adrien is finally able to give a smile to the camera. The thought of being in a position where he has to use his training and skills against a loved one isn’t ideal in his eyes. To use all the wrestling moves that he uses to take down his other opponents...it’s different when you genuinely care about the person you’re doing them to.
“Jazmyn, your friendship has been indispensable to me. I could not imagine where I would be today without it. You’ve done more for me than I could ever put into words, even with something as simple as making sure I wasn’t alone after me and Stacy split. I’ll never forget the little things you’ve done for me. I can only hope I’ve had the same impact on your life. And no matter the result of this match, that won’t change. Win or lose, my feelings towards you will not change. I believe that you will treat this match the same way. My respect for you remains high as we lead up to this contest.”
Adrien sucks in on his bottom lip as he takes a deep breath before saying some difficult words.
“I don’t like winning matches like this. I’ve gotta do what I can do. But when it’s coming against someone who deserves to be treated as a higher talent than some of this roster views her, as evidenced by the comments made by many of the other NGW competitors. Jazmyn Rain is one of the most underrated talents, and I want her to get that recognition. But I am afraid I will damage that cause if I win.”
Another deep breath. This video was clearly not easy for Adrien to shoot. He proudly wears a Guardians t-shirt with his dark blue jeans, because he wants to make it clear how much the other three means to him. He hates the thought that he is an obstacle to one of them.
“I sometimes worry that I’m holding Jazmyn, Jessica, and Joshua back. I look at them and realize that Jazmyn Rain is the GCW Global Heavyweight Champion. Jessica is the SAP X Champion. Joshua is the UKWF Broadcast Champion. And then there’s me. The one most of the company claims is the only important Guardian. I’ve begun to believe that it’s the other way around. Could these three be doing more without hanging around me? Could a non-Guardian Jazmyn be the Five Lakes or even the Heavyweight Champion? Would Josh focus more on the Radicalliance and perhaps be in line to be a tag team champion right now? Would Jessica be holding some championship, whether it’s the Young Lions, Spotlight, Five Lakes...something? Hell, she did win the IPW Heavyweight Championship once with a lot of people from that roster being on this
“Regardless, we’re in this together. I believe in all three of them to do great things. These are talented individuals. You’re going to be bigger than you could ever imagine, Jazmyn. You’re going to be thought of as one of the greatest in this company, I know it. I’m sorry that this match pitted us against one another. I love you, Jazmyn. I mean it. I guess...I’ll see you in the ring.”
The eyes of Adrien Cochrane have so much pain in them as he finishes what he was saying. This time, he nods to signal that he was finished. The camera, thankfully, was quick to cut to black.
There's nothing else to lose, there's nothing else to find
There's nothing in the world that can change my mind
There is nothing else
There is nothing else
There is nothing else
Desperate for changing, starving for truth
I'm closer to where I started, I'm chasing after you

I'm falling even more in love with you
Letting go of all I've held on to
I'm standing here until you make me move
I'm hanging by a moment here with you
I'm living for the only thing I know
I'm running and not quite sure where to go
And I don't know what I'm diving into
Just hanging by a moment here with you
Just hanging by a moment
Just hanging by a moment
I'm hanging by a moment
Just hanging by a moment here with you
