REMI FONTAINE
Chapter 1-3: New Life, New Changes.
West Coast Genesis HYPE 009 Vs. Shawn Young
Third Person View!
Drive to Stockton, California, they said.
It’ll be fun, they said.
‘It’s a good thing we decided to do this early in the morning,’ Remi thinks to himself as he allows himself to collapse on the king size bed. He stares at the ceiling of the hotel room and takes a moment to simply catch his breath. With a contemplative look, he reaches over to the nightstand and retrieves his video camera. He starts it up and switches the view on him, then he hits record.
“Bonjour fellow rebels, it’s the Rebel Angel, Remi Fontaine! My boyfriend Jesse and I just checked into this Clarion Inn & Suites Hotel. The cool thing is we’re just a few minutes away from the Stockton Arena, so when the time comes, I’ll be ready for HYPE. Hey, Jesse, are you ready for HYPE?”
He moves to sit up on the bed before he switches the camera’s perspective, directing the camera to focus on his boyfriend. Jesse, currently reading Art of War, glances up from the book holding his place with his thumb. “I am. Ready to see you win that upcoming match.” He smirks looking back down at the book.
Remi zooms in on the title of the book and smiles. “Art of War. That’s a good one. It’s shined in a bad light simply because ‘war’ is in the title, but it’s a fantastic read. When something is important to you and you want to succeed, never take risks if you can help it. Only move when you’re sure. That’s the first lesson Sun Tzu teaches the reader. It sorta carries into professional wrestling if you think about it. I’m a student in this industry and I’m still working on lesson one, but that’s okay. Two-and-three isn’t a terrible starting record. It’s not great, but it’s not terrible.”
Slowly, the camera zooms out to normal and he moves off of the bed for a moment. He turns the camera towards himself rather than switch perspectives and he runs his free hand through his hair. “Izzy and I did just beat Shawn and Austen on the last Unscripted. Shawn’s actually my opponent for tonight’s HYPE and I can already feel the adrenaline running through my veins. He’s the former WCG Long Beach Champion. This is a singles match, so I’m on my own… and that’s my preference, to be honest.”
Remi moves to record Jesse closer as his boyfriend speaks up. “I think I’m on a perfect timing chapter for this match as well. The fifth chapter of Art of War: Forces. For those of you who refuse to pick up a good book— it explains timing for an army’s momentum. Can you guess what a good time to not lose for Remi is? Right now. Compliment and ‘understand’ Remi’s position all you want, Shawn, but all the sugary words will not change what’s happening come HYPE. You are losing. Remi is stepping up from a victory. The time to continue to climb up the proverbial ladder is this match. The best man is going to win, trust me.”
“You heard the man!” Remi smirks and turns the camera towards himself. He’s a professional at live recordings and handling the tech with precision. “If I may also reference Suikoden without sounding like too much of a nerd…”
“You ARE a nerd.”
Remi can’t help but laugh. To clarify this, he pushes his glasses up with a finger and grins.
“In the Gate Rune Wars, the Liberation Army’s battles against the Scarlet Moon Empire’s Imperial Forces were fierce and historical. Despite the hardship and struggles, Tir McDohl led his army to victories that were well-fought for. In the first Suikoden story, Tir is only a teenage boy, at least thirteen or fourteen years old. I’m the young underdog in a tough match against you, Shawn Young. I’m not calling you Emperor Barbarosa. Nah, this isn’t the final boss fight, but you are a formidable opponent. Your track record hasn’t been the best since Crossroad: Ascension. You lost the Long Beach championship to one of my best buddies, Adam Sanders and you and Austen Blackwell lost to me and my female partner in crime, Izzy Roxx. If you were facing almost any other opponent, I’d happily cheer you on, but tonight you’re facing me… and after the bell rings, you’re going to deal with three losses in a row.”
He turns the camera towards Jesse and sticks his tongue out. “But hey, we’ve got a few hours before showtime. After that five-hour road trip, I think I deserve some R&R with my amazing boyfriend. I’ve heard there’s a great restaurant close by with surf n’ turf.”
“What are we waiting for? Let's go!” Jesse grins, sets a bookmark to keep his place in the book, and carefully sets it aside.
“Right! Let me go ahead and fix myself up real quick.” The camera shakes a little as Remi nods and the two of them begin to get ready. The young man enters the bathroom with the camera in tow and he aims it towards the mirror in his left hand. He retrieves a black comb from his back pocket and begins to comb his dark hair. Once he has it to a style he likes, he takes a moment to look at himself in the mirror through the camera’s perspective. A soft vibration comes from his phone and he pulls it out of another pocket, checking the inbox for the new message. It’s from Daniel Daemon, but the message is not of his own words.
'Know your enemy and know yourself and you can fight a hundred battles without disaster.' -Sun Tzu
His bright blue eyes shimmer as he stares at the phone in his right hand. Even the camera is focused on the message on the screen. It’s fascinatingly eerie how well this quote falls into place with the theme of the promo. Surely it’s a lucky coincidence. He takes a deep breath and lets it out slowly.
“This is my legacy… and I’ll fight a hundred battles to build it.”
With a swift movement of his thumb, he locks the phone before sliding it back into his pocket. He reaches out towards the camera and hits stop.
