005 * Un verdadero campeón
Scene 001 - SoCal Grappling Academy - San Diego, CA - 10/27/2016
OFF CAMERA
*We open as Avery Miles III is standing upright on the top of the turnbuckle. He is working on a twist to his normal finisher. He has long been using the Shooting Star Press as his cherry on top; but in an effort to raise the stakes Avery has added a Corkscrew element to the move. On the mat is a wrestling dummy for Avery to work on timing and hitting the move perfectly. A full jump, and Avery nails the move as a clap is heard from just outside of the ring. We see it is Alechs Aurelio, a student of the SoCal Grappling Academy and a new trainer to the school. Alechs had a one off match in Alpha Rising, but Alechs had yet to commit himself to a promotion or company.*
Alechs: Perfecto. Nice job, man.
*Alechs stands in a defensive stance inside of the ring*
Avery: Don’t go easy on me, Alechs.
Alechs: Nah man, I ain’t. You’ve improved. You knocked that rust off!
*Avery smiles and lowers his head*
Avery: Good. I’ve got to be ready. I am done being in the shadow. This is my time.
*Avery takes off and uses a Slingblade dropping Alechs hard to the mat. He pops up and runs up the ropes in a quicker pace than ever, and hits a moonsault as if he was not even looking. He nails it and mocks a cover for the three count. Avery pushes up to his feet and offers a hand down to Alechs. The younger kid has a smile across his face.*
Avery: What?
Alechs: Nothing.
Avery: No, what is it?
Alechs: Just how hard you’ve pushed yourself. It’s loco.
Avery: I need to step up my game. Like what YOU need to do.
Alechs: I’ve been getting back.
*Avery gets up to his feet, and gives a play bow to Alechs. The two of them have developed a brotherly relationship in the recent months. Alechs has become a bit of a staple to the Miles household; often a benefactor to the great meals that Avery’s girlfriend Taylor Devereaux has made. Alechs has also become a pillar of the Miles family as Avery is constantly popping between home, shows, and the school. Alechs has been there for Taylor to lean on since finding out she is pregnant. Her and Avery are expecting triplets.*
Avery: Thank you. I feel like it is ALMOST there. Just not quite perfect, yet.
*He smiles. Always the perfectionist. His record would not necessarily reflect perfection, but the winner of the Super Falcon Cup was no slouch either. He had been training. Working shows in Redemption Wrestling. And teaching the next generation. Avery had his a high note as a champion in two companies and winning the cup, but he still had a lot to prove.*
Alechs: You are doing well man. You are coming a long way from the little bit of time I’ve watched you.
Avery: Yeah? Well when are you going to make the jump? One phone call, and I could get you a contract. Name the place.
Alechs: I… uh…. I am not sure yet. If I am ready.
Avery: Ready to train? But not to compete?
*Alechs scratches his head, trying to change the subject*
Alechs: Alright, I will make you a deal. You finally put a ring on the hand of your beautiful baby momma… and I will discuss contracts. Fair?
*Avery smiles, knowing something Alechs doesn’t. That time has been coming for Avery. As we inch closer to the holidays, he looks to turn what was a terrible tragedy last year into something much more positive. Taylor did not quite know what was coming, but she wanted Avery to be ready when he finally proposed. *
Avery: Fair. But for now, get your ass inside of this ring and help me train. I have a big match in Lucha coming up.
Alechs: Oh man, you wrestling for them again?
Avery: Yeah, man. I got a match against La Cucaracha for the Rey de Reyes Title. It is a Baptism of Fire Match.
Alechs: That place is always stepping up. New challenges.
Avery: Yeah man. It is awesome. I am glad to be there. It is a place where I can just do what I do. Keep my head down. And perform.
Alechs: You face Cacaracha before?
Avery: Nah. But apparently that Sam Washington dude injured him. Same dude that tried to beat the snot out of me. He won. But I survived. We have that in common. But he is definitely a much different dude than I am. Regardless, this is my time to shine. I’ve done well in Guerreros and plan on continuing that trend.
Alechs: Good. Well… let’s get to it. Okay?
*The two of them climb back into the ring as they lockup to continue their training session*
Scene 002 - Mexico City, Mexico - 10/28/2016
*We open as Avery Miles III is standing with his eyes focused on something off camera. He stands off to the side as a crowd of people make their way up and down the many streets that intersect at this point. Mexico City is a highly populated city, and it is dense at that. Avery is no stranger to Mexico City; wrestling here a couple of times in some tournaments. Nothing to call home about, but he was proud of what he accomplished. Pulling out his phone, he swipes through some recent pictures of his daughter, Brooklyn, and his girl, Taylor. He nods to himself thinking to himself that he “has this” and puts to phone away. The camera pulls in.*
Guerreros of Lucha. A place that has allowed me the chance to show off my skills in a more bit more an international flavor. Matches that are outside of the norm. And a part of the Super Falcon Cup, of which I came out on top. I fought some hard matches. I had difficult challenges. I rose to the occasion. I overcame. And here I stand. Fighting for the Rey de Reyes Championship.
*Avery pauses for a moment, takes a breath, and continues*
I can sit here and spit the same sort of shit. But a lot has changed in a few months. I’m a bit more rough around the edges. I am not the same, quiet, kept man that I was before. I was forced to speak ill of people because of the way they tried to paint me into a box. They made me out to be a bad guy, and that is not who I am. Just like some people may try to mistake La Cacaracha for a silly name and vision for herself. She is the top champion here in Guerreros of Lucha, and I am sure that is for a reason. Racha is coming off of an injury from what I have heard, and I know how that can be. I know that a champion fights through it no matter what, and I already respect whatever she is able to bring to the ring regardless. The thing is, it won’t be enough. Racha can be 50%. She can be 90%. She can even be better than the best that she has ever been… and it simply won’t be enough. This match? This match is mine. Something taken like a joke… this sport is one to be respected and honored. I told Mr. Rottentreats the same and where did that get him? Well he didn’t win the Super Falcon Cup. And I ask the same from you. Come to this match without that silly cockroach gimmick. Do without the Canadian pride. Or any other part of what you want people to “see” that is not the real you. With me? What you see is what you get. Period.
I know that a lot goes in Lucha. Plenty of flexibility to the rules. And in a Baptism by Fire match? Well I just hope that taking the title from you does not get you too burned. Call it ego. Call is being cocky. Six one way, half of a dozen the other. I am ready and confident in what I bring to the match and to Lucha. The company deserves a fighting champion that is willing to represent it. When I was told that I was going to be fighting for a title here in GOL… I had to ask who the champion was. Do other companies have to do that? I think not. I will carry the title, and carry the company on my back. I will give it the representation that is deserves. I will make sure that Lucha is front and center; where it deserves to be.
*The camera slowly pans as Avery is again focusing off camera. The camera turns and there is a small fire that is left unattended. It appears to be something used to cook on, but nobody's around it*
Before I flew here, I was doing some research. I knew generally what a baptism was, but I wanted to get a better grasp on it. Doing my homework, I found out that it was defined as “a person's initiation into a particular activity or role.” This is quite suiting, is it not? You’ve been champion. You know what it feels like to be the top dog… or roach… in this company. For me, it is time to assume the role as the champion. This match will be that initiation. I am ready to put it all on the line… willing to live through fire and the burning flesh that could be a result. How far are you willing to go, Racha? How badly do you want it? Because I know that I can already feel the heat. I can already smell the singe of flesh. I know what I am in for. I’ve already made my peace with it. Can you say the same?
I might have taken some time off from GOL. But I have competed in other places. I’ve earned championships in a couple of places. And it is time that I earn the top title in a company. GOL has become a second home to me, and I look to become its favorite son.
Scene 003 - Bren Events Center - Irvine, CA - FLASHBACK EARLY 2015
OFF CAMERA
*Avery Miles III is wrestling in a match with another young star. Being trained in Mexico and by his father and grandfather, Avery has the knowledge to know what to do and what not to do inside of the ring. He grabs his opponent for a suplex but the opponent reverses it. Avery gets a kick to the gut as his opponent grabs Avery. He goes for a piledriver but the head of Miles is too low and Avery is spiked hard to the mat. The opponent makes the cover as Avery appears to be out of it.*
ONE
TWO
THREE
*The ref is reluctant to make the three count and calls for the bell. An odd look to his face as the ref checks on Avery. It appears as though he is out of it as the ref calls for a medic. A quick rush as they help him into the back. Minutes later, he is in an ambulance with concussion symptoms.*
I know what injuries are like. I know they can be devastating. But we need to bring our the best in ourselves after them. I've done it before.
