"Intervention”
Date: January 13, 2018
It’s extremely rare for a professional wrestler to be competing in their own hometown throughout the year, but WCG West Coast Champion Julianna DiMaria finds herself with the unique opportunity in her own right when she defends the WCG West Coast Championship against Donovan Basch. The thought of the match is almost certainly permeating her thought process as she’s inside of her home, starting at the still-unopened Christmas present her parents gave her the last time she saw them over a month prior. Her two friends, Christy and Ally, are joining her, as they always would, when it comes to a big match such as this.
Christy: Are you ever going to open that?
Julianna doesn’t respond to this obvious ice breaker attempt.
Ally: Yeah. I mean, whatever they got you, they certainly made the effort to get it for you to try and make amends for the way they treated you.
Julianna sighs in annoyance, clearly wanting nothing to do with her parents at the moment.
Julianna: I don’t trust them. For all we know, it’s probably some lame, wrestling related thing just to hammer the point that they were always out of touch with their own daughter. Besides, I have bigger things to worry about then some lame Christmas present. Today’s the big day, all in all…
Julianna sighs as she stands up from the chair she was sitting on to walk away from the unopened Christmas gift.
Ally: Oh that’s right! That is today, isn’t it.
Christy: Yeah, it is. It’s just that Jules hasn’t really talked about it which is quite uncharacteristic for her.
Julianna narrows her eyes and sighs again.
Julianna: Right, because I DIDN’T suffer humiliation in Cleveland just a few short days ago.
Ally: You’re STILL on that? Girl, I don’t know about you…
Julianna turns to face her two friends, the tension between them clearly building.
Julianna: What do you mean that you don’t know about me. Hello? Am I not the WCG West Coast Champion still?
Christy: It’s just that… well… you have a tendency to hang onto things for way too long and this is just another example of it. We get it. You hate losing. Suffering that loss in Cleveland to Adrien was humiliating, but you have to move on.
Julianna: Move on? REALLY?
Ally: Um… please don’t flip anything over….
Julianna: Oh I’m flipping something over alright…
Julianna flips a middle finger to both Christy and Ally, causing them to roll their eyes in obvious annoyance.
Christy: Real mature! Julianna, listen. What’s happened before, already happened. You shouldn’t dwell on this and yes, I am referring to your loss to Adrien AND what’s been happening with your parents. Yeah, your parents may have raised you the way that they did, but I think they really are trying to see the errors of their ways. I’ve never found them to be bad people at all despite everything you’ve been saying about them and everything that we know about them and how they raised you and things like that.
Ally: And as for your match with Adrien… there’s no shame in that. I think even your parents would understand. There’s a big difference between losing to a wrestler like Adrien and losing to someone like Karari Makelah. I get it. It’s not the outcome you wanted, but it’s not like you didn’t give him a run for his money either.
Julianna: It’s not good enough for me. Winning is the only thing that matters.
Christy and Ally audibly groan.
Julianna: What? Why do you two even care THIS much? I’m not doing anything wrong here. I’m speaking the truth. Losing is a fate worse than death! I hate it. I get that it’s not possible to win every single match and all, but that was a match that would have gotten me one foot in the door in GCW and I wouldn’t have to deal with this “promotion match” against Melina at a later date. THAT would have been my promotion win, had it happened, and then I would have made Joshua, Jazmyn and Jessica my bitches.
Christy: You’re losing yourself here.
Ally: Yeah, I know we’re not your parents or whatever, but we don’t want to see you go off the deep end.
Julianna: Go off of the deep end? What? Are you saying I’m crazy?
Christy & Ally: Um….
Julianna: Are you?
Christy: No, we’re not saying that.
Ally: No, not at all. Listen Julianna, think about where you were when you signed with WCG compared to where you are right now. The Julianna we remember… okay so she wasn’t exactly a slice of humble pie, clearly. But she also wasn’t such a big drama queen either.
Christy: And before you go off on her for saying that, you should sit down and listen to what we have to say because seriously, we are more than concerned about the path you’re going on.
Julianna narrows her eyes in anger and looks like she’s fighting herself internally as far as how to respond to what she heard. Eventually, she decides to keep herself cool and lean against the wall, indicating that she’s listening which draws a surprised, though relieved, reaction from two of the few friends that she has.
Julianna: I’m listening.
Ally: Look, the Julianna we remembered was someone who was vigilant and determined to get what she wanted.
Christy: And the Julianna we know now is someone that is scorching every bridge in the world.
Julianna: I don’t understand what you’re getting at. I’ve always been like this.
Christy: Can you just listen to what we have to say? Please!
Julianna: Fine! Go on!
Ally: You were hungry from day one to get to the top in WCG and that’s great. We don’t blame you for that. But something changed inside of you on the day that you lost to Ryan Keys the second time on the second Hype after he won the ladder match. We started to notice a change in you then.
Christy: Yeah. Before, you didn’t let losses get to you at all. You were able to just laugh them off and live another day. But now? It’s like…. Well you just said it.
Ally: “Losing is a fate worse than death itself”
Julianna: Well, at least when you die, you don’t have to suffer anymore.
Ally: Not the point. What we’re saying is, as soon as you lost to Ryan Keys the second time, you… well… beat yourself up for it on social media.
Christy: Yeah, you acted like that was it for you and that you’d never get another chance. But you still did with your hard work and determination which, even for what you were at the time, was still the biggest trait that people were noticing even as you kept going on and on and on about Keys and how he wasn’t a good champion and so forth.
Ally: Still, that’s when it started, you know? You just got progressively more dramatic…
Christy: And then you won the championship…
Julianna smiles as she immediately remembers the moment that she won the WCG West Coast Championship from Ryan Keys at Rise.
Ally: And then that’s when the entitlement started and you grew worse and worse and worse…
Christy: And you took your losses even MORE seriously than you needed to.
Ally: And it’s gotten to the point where people on BOTH rosters are hating you.
Christy: You can claim that this is what you want, but we know you too well. It’s NOT what you want and it’s not what you aimed for when you first signed with the company.
Julianna: Okay… so… what’s the point that you’re trying to make here? I’m not quite seeing it, to be completely honest with you.
Ally: Well, Christy and I have been doing some thinking and we think that maybe… just maybe… losing the WCG West Coast Championship to Donovan Basch… um… do you want to say it, or should I?
Christy: I’ll say it. Let’s not sugar coat this any longer. We think that losing to Donovan is the best thing that can happen to you.
Julianna: EXCUSE ME?
Julianna quickly reacts with anger, believing that the words she just heard right now are completely ridiculous.
Julianna: I did NOT just hear that from two people that are supposed to be my friends.
Ally: Julianna, we’re trying to get you to see something beneficial for your own good.
Christy: Exactly.
Julianna: How is losing the title POSSIBLY a good thing? I busted my ass for it and now you’re trying to tell me that I am better off without it? The only benefit is that I wouldn’t have to stay in WCG after I lost the title. I can move on to NGW and such, but STILL! This is absolutely LUDICROUS!
Ally: Bottom line?
Christy: We want the OLD Julianna back!
Ally: Yeah, we don’t want this megalomaniacal drama queen that you’ve become. I’m not saying you have to go around and respect everyone, not that you ever did, but you’ve really taken things too far.
Christy: We were hoping losing to Adrien would teach you a lesson, but now we understand that the only way you’re going to learn that lesson is by losing that championship so as much as it pains us to say it, we’re rooting AGAINST you…
Ally: Well, in one way we are. We’re rooting against Julianna the wrestler because it’s beneficial for Julianna the person.
Christy: Is that clear enough for you?
Julianna: ...get out!
Christy and Ally sigh and shake their heads.
Ally: We were prepared for that. Sorry Julianna. But… we don’t like what you’ve become and we’re not going to stand for it and enable it any longer.
Christy: We’ll give you your space for now. Later.
Christy and Ally, obviously prepared for this, begin to leave.
Julianna: Wait… you girls can stay! I need you!
Julianna’s desperate plea falls on deaf ears as Christy opens the door and both she and Ally leave. Julianna’s eyes widen as she immediately realizes her mistake. Now she’s all alone again, at least at this moment. It appears that she’s about to have another tantrum, but instead she leans against the wall and slumps all the way down to the floor.
Julianna: FUCK!!!!!!
Feelings of guilt begin to permeate her conscience. She realizes she drove away Christy and Ally with her own stubbornness and perhaps the West Coast Champion is beginning to realize the error of her ways now! Either way, the young San Diego native is dealing with yet another blow leading into Ascension as the day of the show wears on and her title defense against Donovan Basch continues to loom.
