Alex Jones stood alone in a dark room. A full body length sized mirror against a wall, the light above blacking out the rest of the room and just showing Alex and his reflection. His hands clasp together as he stands in black jeans, boots and a black and red Asking Alexandria shirt, his long hair down as his eyes peer up at himself with a boyish grin flashing through the beard he seemed to always sport.
“See I felt offended a few weeks ago. I went from being in one of the biggest, most brutal matches in NGW history to stepping in the ring with Alicia Hixx. Alicia. Fucking.Hixx. You know, when I got signed here there was an explosion of speculation. A moment where all the NGW fans came up as one and were excited. There was my history with Adrien and Avery. The mouth watering thought of me stepping in the ring with guys like Matt Shields, Jack Tillman and Mason Moore. Or getting in there with Kayla or CODA. Fans wanted to see what I’d do.”
“You see about a year ago my name didn’t carry that much weight in the wrestling world anymore. People talked as if I was a hasbeen, as if my glory days were behind me and I was a hasbeen, a nobody. Done at the age of 31. Atleast that’s what people believed. They all thought I was going to just fade away into nothing. Jokes on you right?. Two world title reigns, one of which is ongoing. My signature chased by every major company in the world. I rediscovered my love for this business. I rediscovered the reason for it. Which is why a few weeks ago was so hard to stomach. I mean I get it, Alicia and others deserve shots at people who are better than them, it’s the only way they’ll grow but I am one of the most decorated performers in this company. I am one of the most talented and putting me in the ring against a woman so inept she thought I was named Alexis and was a woman is actually a major fail on NGW’s part.”
“But after what I did to her NGW seems to have realised their mistake and as we went into the week of our two night extravaganza Homecoming I have been out in the ring with two very talented women who are looking to rise up and be noticed. The three of us are all former champions, the three of us are known by name...the three of us all have ZERO quit.”
Alex stays fixated on the mirror moving a few strands of hair from his face, the grin still there as we notice his hands. Covered in black leather gloves as he clenches his fists, his eyes for the first time move away from his own reflection to those gloves, his expression changes for a moment as his breathing too changed and becomes deeper.
“I’m not that familiar with Jessica Sears. I know a little history, unfortunately you and I share the distinction of having more people involved in our personal lives than we really want and the truth is Jessica I couldn’t care less about your divorce. See I’ve been there too in a very public way but at the end of the way what really matters is what we do in that ring. And you have had quite a career over at SAP and now here you are in NGW ready to become something special and I can see the potential. I’m not blind. Anyone who has an eye for it can see you’re far from a waste of talent.”
“People flock to you Jessica and they like you because of what you can do in the ring but if there’s one thing I can kind of criticise it’s the use of the gamer girl persona. See others have done it, and they’ve done it much better than you. You don’t need it. And yeah I get that video games are a huge part of your life and also a huge part of pop culture. But most of us play games. I play Call of duty, I play Destiny 2, I play the new NGW wrestling game, I play Madden and get the new one every year to actually lead my Cowboys to the superbowl. But I don’t need to go down that road to have people like me. I do that by getting in that ring and being one of the greatest professional wrestlers in the world and that Miss Sears is what you should concern yourself with….”
“It’s a lesson that Aurora Graves knows quite well. The Graves’ are two people I have a little bit of history with, from a few matches in FSW to NGW and a great match I had with Aurora’s husband Damon not that long ago I am a huge fan of Rebel INK and a huge fan of what both can do in the ring. And that’s the thing Aurora I have nothing but respect for both you and Damon. I plan on getting in the ring with both you ladies and showing thw world that Alex Jones is still capable of being called the greatest. I want to build myself up to get my hands on that NGW championship….I want to be able to say I was the top of this company. And to do that I have to walk into Homecoming and I have to take out two of the best wrestlers in the world...but Aurora...just like your husband says...it would be a great idea for you to..”
