The Checkup

A few days before traveling to Cleveland for Homecoming, Avery and Serenity headed into the doctor’s office in Macon, Georgia for a checkup. They were getting into the New Year, and they wanted to make sure everything was looking good. Get a new sonogram. And check the health of both baby and mommy. As Serenity laid on the bed, Avery sat next to her holding her had as the ultrasound was going on.

Doctor: Okay, this is all looking good. And how have you been feeling, Serenity?

Serenity: I been feeling alright, just a bit more hungry if anything. A little bit of morning sickness. Seem to be all good.

She smiles as she glances over to Avery, before back to the Doctor.

Doctor: The morning sickness. On a scale of one to ten, how bad?

He takes a few images of the ultrasound.

Serenity: I would say about a four really. I am surprised, I know some are in the bathroom a lot, and it’s real bad.

She glances to the ultrasound machine. The doctor nods.

Doctor: Mmhmm. Mmhmm. I am estimating the due date being June 13th. That puts you at almost four months. The second trimester. Weight looks fine. Avoiding tobacco? Coffee? Caffeine?

Avery nods.

Serenity: Yeah even if someone forgets, and asks me if I want coffee at breakfast. I didn’t smoke as it was.

She laugh softly.

Avery: Come on. I try to remember!

He sees her laugh.

Doctor: Good. Okay. Well I want to see you again in two weeks. I imagine we can tell the gender around February 14th or so.

Avery: Valentine’s Day?

Doctor: Well, I guess so.

Serenity: The best Valentine’s Day gift ever.

She looks over at Avery, as she smiles. She was liking the idea of that, and couldn’t wait to find out.

Doctor: Here is a warm towel. Go ahead and clean that jelly off. I will get a sonogram printed out and you both are all set. See the front desk to setup an appointment for two weeks.

Avery: Thanks, doc.

The doctor nods and smiles, as he heads out of the room. Avery hands her the warm towel. She takes it, as she starts wiping at her belly, as she looks at him.

Serenity: You ready to find out the 14th babe?

Avery nods as he offers a hand to help her sit up.

Avery: I definitely want to know. You?

Serenity: Of course I do, then your mom can stop buying ugly colors, and get better idea of what to buy for Peanut.

She laughs softly, as she looks at him.

Avery: And we can come up with names. Have you… thought of any?

He wondered as she came to her feet, and they headed for the door leading out towards the front desk.

Serenity: No… I kinda wanted to wait till we knew the sex….

She laughs softly, as she looks towards the front desk. She was trying to figure out everything. Avery could tell that she was still unsure of everything, scheduling.

Avery: Hello. We need to make an appointment for in two weeks the doctor said.

Receptionist: Excellent. We have a nine in the morning open on the 16th.

Avery: That is perfect. We fly out to Europe after that. It is okay for her to fly; I read that, right?

The doctor overhears them.

Doctor: Perfectly fine as long as no symptoms of being ill are felt.

Serenity: Perfect, I was hoping I would still get to. I would hate to not be there. Least not till it is too hard to go.

Doctor: And you both have a doctor there?

Avery looks at her.

Avery: Shit.

Serenity: I was looking for one, but haven’t set anything up yet. More so, we need to fine one in every town, and place we go….

She looks over at Avery.

Avery: We are going to major cities, so I am sure we can figure it out. Daisy still traveling with us? Or…. is RC coming along with her?

Serenity: They both will travel with us, might as well. I know RC will need to come back for his shows. We will get it figured out, and be all good.

Avery sets up the appointment as he grabs her jacket, and they head out the door.

Avery: After you.

She heads out, as she leans over, kissing him lightly, before walking out the door. They head out of the office and into his truck as they head home.
