“2017 in Perspective: July-December"
Continued from Last Time…
Date: December 20, 2017
Jazmyn and Derek are sitting down on the couch waiting from Camryn to come back inside. Derek has an arm around Jazmyn, showing some slight affection while they’re talking about the first half of 2017.
Derek: I still can’t believe all of the hoops you even had to jump through just to even get back in the Global Championship picture. You could have used the rematch that you had from the title being robbed from you long before this year even got here.
Jazmyn: That’s true, but I wasn’t confident in myself at all when that whole incident in St. Louis happened and by the time I regained that confidence, I didn’t want to take the easy way in. I wanted to do it the hard way and earn it.
Derek: I completely understand. That sort of tenacity makes me love you even more!
Jazmyn: Aw!
Derek leans in and plants a kiss on her cheek. Jazmyn laughs at this but their display of affection isn’t going to last long with Camryn coming back inside the scene from Jazmyn’s porch.
Camryn: Did I miss anything?
Jazmyn: No. It’s about to get good, trust me! If you thought the first half of this year was something, check out what you’re about to see.
Jazmyn picks up the notebook from where Camryn was sitting so she could take her seat back. Once she sits to Jazmyn’s left, she opens the notebook again and flips to the page saying “July”. There are two pictures as there have been for the last few pages. One picture is of Jazmyn winning the Any Given Night match in GCW to become the number one contender for the Global Championship and the other is hre debut loss to Jew Blazer in Redemption
Derek: This is when NGW started becoming part of the picture, isn’t it?
Jazmyn nods and smiles.
Camryn: I can tell this is about to pick up.
Jazmyn: Oh yeah…
Jazmyn takes a deep breath before she reads the entry out loud.
Jazmyn (reading aloud): “July has been quite the eventful month for me. With everything I’ve learned so far in the first half of 2017, now I had my chance to break into the Global Championship picture. All I needed to do was win a roster-wide gauntlet match in order to get my shot at Aphrodite Noel. Of course, it was not going to be easy and I knew going in that I was the last person she wanted to win. Unfortunately for her, I managed to overcome the odds to become the number one contender. It’s quite a shame that she wanted to put me in the back of the line so quickly. I honestly feel like with her words, she doesn’t respect or like me at all. Some of the stuff she’s said about me has honestly hurt. I haven’t done anything to her, or even touched her. I’ve never been one for dealing with the hatred in someone’s heart. But hey, she’s quite similar to Caroline Burchill in Redemption as far as arrogance goes. I began a new journey in Redemption Wrestling… sadly with a hometown debut loss. But you know what? It’s a learning experience. I’ve overcome so much worse. The big takeaway is that the competition in NGW IS different than the competition in GCW.
Derek: NOW do you understand why I HATED Aphrodite?
Camryn laughs before responding.
Camryn: It must have been hard to deal with that, Jaz.
Jazmyn: Just another lesson for me to learn. And as you’re about to see in the next page, the lessons kept on coming.
Jazmyn turns the page to “August”, with this page showing three pictures: one of Aphrodite beating her in controversial fashion with her foot on the ropes, one with Jazmyn forgiving the referee and a combined picture of her first Redemption win alongside Trixie as well as beating Caroline O’Hara Birchill.
Jazmyn (reading aloud): “For Glory and Gold tested me. I was so upset when I lost to Aphrodite in controversial fashion initially but instead of throwing a fit, I decided to be a good sport and let the referee know that it wasn’t his fault. I handled it with the grace and dignity of a champion and I AM going to get one more chance at that Global title. However, it’ll include four more opponents and an elimination chamber. Hey, what’s five more obstacles, right? Destiny may have decided I needed to be tested one last time before I regain the championship. But hey, it didn’t take me very long to get my first Redemption win, did it? Trixie is going to be an obstacle on my path to the New Generation title and gosh did it feel great to beat Caroline or what? Sadly, that came too late, but hey, beating Jew Blazer for the title and avenging my hometown loss sounds great does it not?”
Derek: I still don’t know how you were able to handle that loss the way you did. I would have flipped my shit. But, I know you so much better than that.
Jazmyn: Anything to say, Cammie?
Camryn sits there, looking a little surprised. She’s at a loss for words at the moment as more and more of Jazmyn’s story continues to come out. Camryn shakes her head, trying to process it all. With the non-verbal response, Jazmyn turns the page to “September” with the two pictures being exclusively NGW pictures. One picture is her win over DeSean Walker at Convergence and another is of the Guardians with herself, Adrien Cochrane, Honey and Alechs Aurelio.
Jazmyn (reading aloud): “I don’t have much to write about on the GCW front this month. The biggest development I can give is that I have learned to tune Aphrodite out. My march toward that Global title continues. But shoot, I learned a lot about Redemption… er… NGW. First off, how brutal the competition can be in the upper tier of this company and secondly… I have friends now… great friends! I don’t know Adrien, Honey and Alechs that great, but I feel like the Guardians is going to be something very special! They embody so much of what I try to be in this business and with those three at my side, I know that I’ve got a solid support group in place to be a success in anything I put my mind to. They’ve even helped me a bit with some of my GCW struggles. With their faith in me, there’s no denying I’ll meet my full potential soon!”
Camryn: Okay, I have something to say now. This is all becoming quite touching, honestly. This growth as you go along is incredible. I never imagined you’d grow to be this much of an inspiration to other people.
Jazmyn smiles, taking things in stride before she flips to the next page: “October”. The two pictures consist of being blindsided by Jack Tillman at the C2 Con before she was set to take on Trixie in their number one contender’s match for the Five Lakes Championship and another is of Jazmyn, Adrien and Honey… no Alechs.
Jazmyn (reading aloud): “Adversity was the name of the game this month. I’ve picked up some more momentum in GCW as the elimination chamber match nears but in NGW? So much bad! If being assaulted from behind by Jack Tillman isn’t bad enough, the Guardians being down to three members with Alechs leaving us is even worse. I’m not sure HOW we’re going to be able to take on the Destroyers at this point being down four to three. This isn’t quite what I was hoping for with the chamber match being so close, but maybe this is how it was meant to be? Maybe I had to take on adversity one final time before I step into that chamber? Despite what I’ve been through this month, I am keeping the faith. The Jazmyn of old would have buckled, but the Jazmyn Reina Cabrera that has come out over the last 19 months is a strong woman that can endure such harsh adversity like this!”
Derek: You’re never going to get a disagreement from me on that. I always knew that the woman you are now was always within you.
Camryn: My goodness…
Derek: What?
Camryn: Such strength…
Jazmyn takes a deep breath before turning the page to “November”. There’s another Guardians picture, this one with Jazmyn, Adrien and Honey, but with this picture, Jessica Nitoh and Joshua Goldstein are added. Also, a picture of Jazmyn clutching the Global Championship after FINALLY regaining it in the elimination chamber is shown and this picture brings out all of the feels in Jazmyn.
Jazmyn: Oh gosh…
Tears of joy begin to flood her eyes, almost in an instant as the memory of regaining the Global Championship hits her. They begin to flow down her face, which draws concern from Camryn.
Camryn: What’s wrong?
Derek: Nothing.
Jazmyn: I’m sorry it’s just… that picture… it represents so much. But don’t discount the other one. I felt their presence in that chamber!
Jazmyn wipes her eyes before she begins to read aloud.
Jazmyn (reading aloud): “FINALLY! My goodness, FINALLY! After everything that I’ve had to endure for the last 20 months, I am finally GCW Global Champion again! Looking back at the first entries in this, I see what I have become. This is the most incredible feeling in the world. I was told that winning a world championship at the peak of your career is the greatest feeling EVER and that is definitely true. But the happy times didn’t end there! I’m the number one contender for the NGW Five Lakes Championship after finally getting my match with Trixie and the Guardians are now FIVE! I am thrilled beyond words to have Jessica and Joshua in the fold! I don’t know what else to write. Everything feels so perfect right now. Everything… just everything… so worth it. I truly know what an incredible person I am now. Nothing and nobody will EVER tell me otherwise! I’ve never felt so complete!”
Derek: You don’t need to cry, beautiful!
Jazmyn: I’m sorry, I can’t help it. That was 20 months of one journey all culminating at that very moment.
Camryn: Words can’t describe how happy I am for you, Jaz. Of course, you obviously know that when one journey ends, another one comes.
Jazmyn: Yeah… you’re right…
Jazmyn composes herself and wipes her tears away. She flips to the last page reading “December”. There’s nothing written on it, but there is a picture of Jazmyn taking part in NGW’s Warfare match.
Jazmyn: I still have two matches to go this year before I can actually write anything for this… one of which is my first defense of my title in GCW so I do need to get a picture for that.
Derek: Hey, the Guardians won the Warfare match.
Camryn: Yeah and you finally beat Malcolm Cross in GCW! Remember how he was always in your way in your early GCW career before you become as strong as you are?
Jazmyn: Yeah! How times have changed, right? And the Guardians winning that Warfare match… heck of a momentum builder too. I couldn’t have asked for a better family there. Once I get my title defense through in GCW, I’ll write December’s entry. Hopefully, it’s a positive one.
Derek: You’re not losing your Global Championship, not with how much you’ve grown this year.
Camryn: Now I understand how you’ve made this all possible.
Jazmyn: Thank you two! Seriously! You were part of my support group that kept me straight when things went wrong. I guess one thing I CAN write for “December” for sure is… “bring on 2018”
Camryn: You know… I get the sense that 2018 is going to be even BETTER!
Jazmyn smiles and laughs.
Jazmyn: Yeah… me too!
Jazmyn closes the notebook and now thoughts of the year to come begin to cross her mind.

Jazmyn Rain: I accomplished my goals for 2017. But now? For next year?
