“2017 in Perspective”
Opening Thoughts
Jazmyn Rain: 2010 was my training year, 2011 was my rookie year, 2012 was the year I grew to the point where I was on the cusp of greatness, 2013 was where it all crashed and burned for me, 2014 was my “off the grid” year, 2015 was my return year and 2016… holy crap, that was some Jekyll and Hyde year considering that the first part of it was so tumultuous and the second have was such a blessing for my life and career. It was the latter part of 2016 where I discovered the strength that I had and became the “guardian angel”.
But 2017? Gosh, what do I make of it?
It was another crazy year for me, but for the most part, in a good way. If the latter half of 2016 was discovering my inner strength, 2017 was more or less realizing how strong said strength really was.
I’ll elaborate at the proper time, but I can definitely say for a fact that I learned so much about myself this year. Of course, it wasn’t the perfect year. There have definitely been some stumbles and falls along the way, but at the end of the day, I’m able to stand up stronger than before and aim for more. This year? That’s exactly what I did. Did I allow what happened to me at the C2 Con to get me down? No. I got back up, faced Trixie properly at Resurgence and beat her to become the number one contender to the Five Lakes Championship. Did I run for the hills after I lost my debut match? No I didn’t.
Trust me, it can be draining to have to do that again and again, but at the end of the day, the rewards are definitely worth it.
I’ve erred and made my mistakes. I’ve put faith in people that I shouldn’t have. I misinterpreted the words of others. I’ve taken criticism to heart far too much, but such is humanity, right? It doesn’t take away from the fact that in 2017, I grew as a professional wrestler better and faster than any other year of my wrestling career. I hope along the way, those that look up to me and those that support me drew some form of inspiration. Still, 2017 isn’t over just yet.
I’ve got one more match in NGW and GCW before I put the bow on an enigmatic year…
Date: December 20, 2017
On the night of December 19, Derek, her fiance and Camryn, her best friend from her college days, are sitting on the couch in Jazmyn’s living room. They’re currently having a conversation about the GCW Global Champion and the mood in the room can definitely be described as spiritually strong with nothing but positive vibes surrounding the room. The conversation is in progress as Camryn continues to be inquisitive about what she’s been missing for the better part of the last four years.
Camryn: So… you’re telling me that after she came back from the dead… literally, she exploded?
Derek nods and smiles with pride.
Derek: Jazmyn was finally able to harness her inner spiritual strength that was brought to her by her obstacles and what she overcame. She used it to begin fighting the evils of GCW as she attempted to make her way back to that Global title that was robbed from her. So, when the new year hit, she had one thing in mind going into 2017: becoming Global Champion again. And with so much that’s happened this year, I don’t think I can do it justice by talking about it.
Camryn: But I need to know! I wish I could have that first-person account of what the journey was like.
Derek: No worries. I found this…
Derek picks up a notebook from the couch armrest.
Derek: Jazmyn wrote a month by month account of her 2017 journey!
Jazmyn: Hey!
Jazmyn appears in the scene, coming from the hallway. She’s sporting a fitting black dress with black pantyhose and Mary Jane shoes to match. She doesn’t appear to be too thrilled about Derek having possession of the notebook.
Jazmyn: That’s my journal!
Derek: I know…
Jazmyn: Oh goodness, did you go through it?
Camryn: Jaz, it’s harmless, I promise. I’ve been trying to figure out how you became what you are now coming all the way back from the depths of despair… you know, when you got robbed of the Global title in the first place.
Derek: Yeah and I think this would help her.
Jazmyn: Fine…
Jazmyn sighs with some reluctance.
Jazmyn: I’ll share. But I read this aloud, okay?
Derek: Great. Let’s make some room.
Derek and Camryn scoot in opposite directions on the couch allowing Jazmyn to walk in and sit between them. Derek hands Jazmyn the journal chronicling her 2017 adventures and she takes a deep breath to open it.
Jazmyn (reading aloud): “2017 Goals. Win Myra’s respect. Eliminate the biggest threats and evils in GCW. Regain the Global Championship.”
Derek: Goals accomplished!
Camryn: Derek! No spoilers.
Jazmyn laughs as she turns the page to “January”. There are two pictures attached: one of Derek at the hospital and another of her fending off Anastasia Jones in a GCW match. There’s a paragraph above the pictures and Camryn’s eyes widen at the picture of Derek in the ER.
Jazmyn: Here goes…. *deep breath*...
“January has been really hard on me. Sophie O’Brien has done nothing but torture me to try and bring back old demons of mine that drove me to the drugs before. The worst of all this was when Derek got mauled and hospitalized. Since then, I’ve felt all alone. I don’t know what to do. I don’t know how to fight this. I’m trying my best not to snap, but after my match with Anastasia, she assaulted me quite violently. I didn’t want to respond with violence of my own, but in self-defense, I have no other choice. I have to win this match against Sophie next month. My dreams are at stake more than my wonderful fans could ever know. I need to regain control of my spirit. Otherwise, God knows what will happen. I’m so scared that I’ll lose control of myself and being so alone only makes it worse.”
Camryn: Wow…
Camryn understandably looks worried having heard the excerpt.
Derek: That’s only the start. Old demons weren’t going to let her go that easily.
Camryn: And YOU got caught in the crossfire? My god, no wonder you felt so alone, Jaz.
Jazmyn smiles in stride, obviously knowing what’s happening on the next page that she just turned over, with “February” as the headline. The two pictures beneath the paragraph are her defeating Sophie at GCW’s Civil War event and a bloodied Jazmyn tearfully reuniting with Derek a short time after that.
Jazmyn: But when I realized I wasn’t alone… that was the turning point, as you’re about to listen to.
“I finally put Sophie and her torture behind me. I managed to defeat her in an ‘I Quit’ match without the single use of a weapon. I have to give her all the credit in the world as a professional wrestler. She pushed me to my limits. It took a gamble for me to do it: my newly learned submission: the “Angel Wings”. I learned that Nagata Lock only two weeks ago and I wasn’t sure if I was ready to use the move in an actual match, but I had to in this situation. But while I overcame my demons in the personification of Sophie and reunited with Derek, sadly, I couldn’t win the Civil War match to get my main event match at Resurrection to regain the Global title. My journey continues…”
Camryn: Maybe if you didn’t have to fight the “I Quit” match with Sophie, you would have won Civil War.
Camryn sighs, but Jazmyn briefly grabs her hand as a gesture to let her know it’s all good.
Jazmyn: Who knows. But no excuses! I tried my best. Derek being by my side again meant more to me that night.
Jazmyn turns the page to “March” with the two pictures involving her career-long nemesis: Myra Lynwood. In one picture, she is shown snagging the Global title away from her to prevent her from cheating to win it and in the other, Myra is shown standing over Jazmyn after she cost her a number one contender’s challenge.
Jazmyn (reading aloud): “Here we go again with Myra and I. I’m now locked in a war with her and her Utopia faction once again. The last time around didn’t go well for me. Myra and I have given each other so much hell over the years and she’s still never respected me and in more recent times, she’s been standing in my way of being Global Champion again. She played a role in that title being stolen from me. But considering I lost to her in that Seven Stages of Hell match seven months ago, I now see what destiny has in store for me. I can’t regain the Global title without going through HER first, but then there’s Utopia. Four of her, one of me. I went at it alone last time. This time? Here’s hoping I have backup. This war could very well lead to Resurrection.”
Derek: All this time later and Myra STILL pisses me off!
Camryn: I don’t blame you. She definitely seemed vile from what I saw on TV.
Jazmyn: Utopia was GCW’s biggest evil of the time and part of my goal was to eliminate said evils, especially them. The war was on again… but I wasn’t alone this time…
Jazmyn winks and turns the page to “April”, with two pictures of her battling Myra and her “Utopia”: one all by herself, and another with Axl Austin, Brookford and Ian McKinnon… three people who ALSO had issues with the dominant, evil faction.
Jazmyn (reading aloud): “Collision course for Resurrection! With three allies capable of holding their own, now I am not alone in my fight against Myra and Utopia! I know deep within my spirit we are all going to rid GCW of this putrid evil! My battles with Sophie taught me that nothing is impossible. Last year’s Resurrection broke my heart. But this year, I will share a Resurrection moment with Utopia’s demise. Then, and only then, can I prove that I am ready to be Global Champion again.”
Camryn: I’m noticing that with every month, you’re getting stronger and stronger.
Jazmyn: You haven’t seen anything yet!
Jazmyn winks and smiles as she turns the page to “May”. The two pictures are of her making Myra pass out at Resurrection to finally put Utopia in GCW at an end and a picture of Aphrodite Noel defeating her good friend Timothy Myers via cheating to win the Global Championship.
Jazmyn (reading aloud): We DID IT! We dismantled Utopia! They’ve fallen to their demise and to beat Myra in the middle of that ring at Resurrection in that four on four elimination battle at the end makes it so much better. Of course, the stubborn bitch chose to pass out rather than tap out and she’ll probably use it as an excuse to try to keep bringing me down. Furthermore, the title is in the wrong hands now: Aphrodite Noel. I guess I know who I have to go through to get that title back. With Resurrection having come and gone and with Utopia being over… I know in my heart I am ready to win back a title that meant the universe to me.”
Camryn: And that’s when you fulfilled your goal of eliminating evil, right?
Jazmyn nods.
Jazmyn: But that’s just the start…
Jazmyn flips the page to “June”, revealing a picture of her making Myra tap out in a Last Respects match and a picture of a “Redemption Wrestling” logo.
Jazmyn (reading aloud): “Sure enough, Myra wasn’t done with me yet. She wanted to use me to springboard herself into the Global title picture just like before. But, I wasn’t going to have it. I turned her away in a Last Respects match and this time, she DID tap out! I finally got her to admit that she respected me. Mission accomplished. Now that my career-long nemesis is behind me, I have overcome the last hurdle to start chasing the Global Championship again. Aphrodite is already starting with her cattiness, but I won’t let her get to me. Also, representatives from Redemption Wrestling took notice of the way I handled Utopia in GCW. They have a problem themselves… a faction named the Destroyers… and their New Gen champion… GOSH, how ARROGANT she is! Nothing is official. I am meeting them soon. Stay tuned!”
Derek: Sounds like 2017 is just starting to pick up for Jazmyn, right Cammie?
Camryn: Yeah. Jazmyn, the fact that you went through all of THAT and overcame so much just to even get in the title picture at ALL speaks for itself! I feel so bad for missing out.
Jazmyn: Don’t! It’s okay! I promise! Better late than never. You know, I think I’m learning something going through all this again. On to July… goodness, this is about to get good!
Camryn: Can you give me a second? I need to step out for a bit.
Jazmyn: Sure!
Jazmyn smiles as Camryn stands up and walks to the front door, stepping out onto Jazmyn’s porch for a brief moment.
Derek: By the way, you know you’re amazing, right?
Jazmyn: Stop!
Jazmyn laughs, choosing to be humble.
Derek: No, I mean it. The first six months of this year alone showed so much of your growth.
Jazmyn: Just wait until Cammie comes back! The roller coaster is about to shift into high gear: being back in the title picture, signing with NGW...so much more!
Jazmyn smiles with confidence as the two wait for Camryn to return to the scene.
