With his wedding still hours away, we find Donovan Basch standing at the railing, looking out over the ship's ice rink. Down below, his fiancée, fellow West Coast Genesis competitor and South Bay Champion Danni LeBlanc, is taking part in some of the skating activities.
Donovan: Unscripted isn't what I'd call the traditional way to cap off what will be the greatest day of my life. After the champagne and wedding cake has had its chance to settle, Austen Blackwell and myself will be looking forward to teaming with Melina Garrison for a match…
Well, we were…
That is until my fiancée and I were notified that Karari Makelah decided to end her life. I am saddened to hear this, as I had no reason to dislike her, but by the same token, I didn't know her well enough to be completely shaken by this revelation.
As of yet, there had been no word stating that the match has been cancelled, so i can only assume that it will fought as a 3-on-2 handicap match, pitting myself, Austen, and Melina against Jason Hunter and Nite Stalker. One is a deplorable individual who fancies himself a hunter of men and the other is a delusional imbecile with a God complex.
Hunter, my opinion of you has not improved since you and I faced off, and in fact, has worsened. For you to disparage a woman that JUST committed suicide is the epitome of classless. A woman is DEAD and all you care about is how much it inconveniences you. I'm going to relish demolishing you…. AGAIN. Perhaps if I drop you on your head hard enough, it'll knock loose your sense of decency.
But I would be amiss of I were to forget your erstwhile partner….
The Nite Stalker….
Donovan starts to chuckle, and it takes a couple of seconds for him to bring it under control.
Donovan: Remind me again why I'm supposed to be frightened of you?
Is it the fearsome face paint that you wear?
Is it the penchant for gratuitous violence?
Or maybe it's the whole “Demonic Messiah” persona that you display….
Hmmm….
He taps his chin, as if pondering some deep mystery.
Donovan: No, I can't honestly say that any of those things are even remotely frightening. You remind me of another individual that espoused many of the same inane ramblings that you do… a man by the name of Lucifer Salvatore….
If that name doesn't ring a bell, I certainly won't blame you, because he and his just-as-delusional band of fools were just as forgettable as you are. He, just like you, used a dark and fearsome persona and meaningless rhetoric to mask his numerous shortcomings inside the wrestling ring.
If you think that I've made it this far in the industry simply on my physical strength alone, I'd advise you to wipe the blackened ooze from your eyes and see things the way they truly are. But if you wish to persist in the misguided notion that I'm simply some musclebound buffoon, then I'd be delighted to show you just how wrong you are.
Unscripted is going to be a night to remember…. Too bad that for you two, it won't be for pleasant reasons….
Just as he finishes, Donovan's father Nathaniel walks up and stands at the railing with his son.
Nathaniel: She’s really quite the skater, isn’t she?
Donovan nods his head before turning to his father.
Donovan: Dad?
Nathaniel: Yes?
Donovan: Are you disappointed that I didn't invite Mother?
Nathaniel stares off at nothing for a moment before replying.
Nathaniel: Honestly? No. When she walked out on us, she forfeited any right to be a part of any of the special moments in our lives. Besides, she would have tried to make the day about her, when it belongs to you and Danni….
Donovan: Dad, thanks… for everything. Not just the wedding, but for making me who I am…
Nathaniel begins to smirk.
Nathaniel: Are you sure you should be thanking me for that?
Donovan has to keep himself from laughing.
Donovan: Touche…
Nathaniel: I can’t even begin to tell you how proud I am of how far you’ve come. Now c’mon, son. You’ve got a big day ahead of you tomorrow. Wouldn't want to let all that champagne go to waste….
Donovan: If Danni were within earshot, she'd wholeheartedly agree with you….
With that, both men walk back towards the ship's interior as the scene fades out.
