Protect Your Family: Part 2
Date: December 4, 2017
Continued from last time…
Jazmyn continues to sit inside Rebecca’s old bedroom next to the Buffy parody costume her sister got her when she suddenly feels annoyed and slightly angry by the way Camryn just treated Rebecca a few minutes ago. Sighing, she decides to do something about it first by standing up and leaving the room, then walking down the hallway to the living room area of her father’s home where she finds Camryn seated.
Jazmyn: Cammie, seriously.
Camryn: What?
Jazmyn: You know what I’m talking about.
Camryn: Becky’s an adult. She’ll be fine.
Jazmyn: Where is she, anyway?
Camryn: She went out in the porch. Look, I was annoyed, okay? You know how it goes when we run into each other.
Jazmyn rolls her eyes.
Camryn: I don’t hate her, if that makes you feel any better. I just think she’s a little too eccentric for my taste.
Jazmyn: Maybe she is, but that doesn’t give you any right to talk to her the way you did a few minutes ago. She was just trying to have fun and lighten things up for us. She’s right. We don’t need to be mega serious all the time, you know? There’s always time to have fun, which you and I BOTH know all about growing up in college and all. Like you used to say all the time back then: your diet was chicken parmesiana and Bacardi.
Camryn: That was a decade ago, Jaz. We have much higher priorities than we did then. But, okay. Out of respect for you, I’m sorry. I should have worded things better. I didn’t mean to upset hr or to upset you.
Jazmyn: Thank you. Apology accepted.
Jazmyn breathes a sigh of relief, thinking that she’s managed to put the issue behind her. But just moments later, she hears Rebecca from outside having herself a bad moment.
Rebecca (from outside): Oh HELL no! How DARE you show up, after all you’ve done to me!
This screaming comment from outside brings Tammy, her stepmother, out of the kitchen.
Tammy: Oh lord…
Jazmyn: What is it?
Tammy: That cheatin’, greedy ex-boyfriend is back. I’ll get your father.
Jazmyn: No Tammy… let him rest.
Tammy turns toward Jazmyn, perplexed about Jazmyn’s suggestion.
Jazmyn: Let ME handle this. It’s like you told me just a few minutes ago, “protect your family”.
Tammy: Alright… careful now, sweetheart.
Jazmyn: I’ll be good!
Jazmyn winks before she heads for the front door having already heard a bit of the argument between Rebecca and her ex-boyfriend. She opens it, interrupting the conversation.
Jazmyn: Is there a problem?
Rebecca and her ex are startled. Rebecca widens her eyes while the ex raises his eyebrows.
‘
Rebecca: It’s okay Jazmyn… really!
Ex: Jazmyn huh?
Jazmyn: And who may you be?
Ex: Your future husband…
Rebecca: Oh for FUCK’S SAKE! And you wonder why I want your ass out of my life!
Ex: Screw you… wait, I already did. You’re not important anymore.
Jazmyn: Excuse me? You don’t talk to my sister like that.
Ex: Can I talk to YOU like that? Why don’t you and I… you know…
Jazmyn flashes the back of her right hand, showing him the engagement ring on her ring finger.
Jazmyn: Why don’t you piss off and leave my sister alone, okay?
Ex: Come on! We were just messing around, right Bex?
Rebecca: “Messing around”? You call ditching our dinner to pay hookers to screw you at a strip club “messing around”?
Jazmyn: Whoa…
Ex: She’s lying!
Jazmyn: No, I want to hear this. Becky, what has this asshole done to you?
Rebecca: Where do you want me to start?
Ex: Don’t start! You keep your fucking mouth shut, or I’ll shut it for you. Got it?
This pisses off Jazmyn to the point where she grabs him by the collar and gets right into his face.
Jazmyn: You talk to my sister like that again and I’ll beat the fucking shit out of you shoving your smug little asshole face into the pavement, you got that motherfucker?!?!?!
Ex: Uh… well…
Rebecca’s ex is taken completely off-guard by Jazmyn’s sudden rush of anger that only comes out of her when someone she cares about is threatened in the way Rebecca just was.
Jazmyn: Now you shut your mouth and let my sister tell me what’s been happening. Rebecca?
Jazmyn shoves him away while Rebecca is allowed to tell her story.
Rebecca: To keep a long story short, not only has this bastard cheated on me, he’s stood me up tons of times, he’s shown on more than one occasion that he cares more about his money than he does about me, he couldn’t get me a birthday present because he spent hundreds of dollars on video games knowing darn well my birthday was coming up, he hit on mom, oh… AND he’s a fan of the Destroyers.
Ex: Matt Shields is the boss!
Jazmyn: You do know who I am, right?
Ex: OH...you’re that Jazmyn Rain girl I see on NGW and GCW. How come you didn’t tell me she was your sister?
Rebecca: Because you would have dumped me to try and get with her, of course.
Jazmyn: I bet this asshole is a Trenton Snow fan too.
Ex: Well… uh….
Rebecca (whispering): He is…
Jazmyn (whispering): That explains a lot…
Ex: Listen, I don’t want any trouble, alright? I mean that. I just want Rebecca back, that’s all.
Rebecca: I don’t want YOU back. I want you out of my life.
Ex; Babe, please…
Jazmyn: Rebecca wants you out of her life, so it’s best that you listen to her for once and get the hell out of here. You’re NEVER going to hurt her again, do I make myself clear on that?
Ex: Please…
Jazmyn: Do you want your face to meet the pavement?
Jazmyn folds her arms and stares daggers of anger through Rebecca’s ex’s empty soul. This body language stuns the douchebag in his tracks as he’s completely frozen without a word to say or without a way to get out of this situation.
Ex: No…
Jazmyn: Then SCRAM! I don’t ever want to see your face again, you understand me? If you do, I’m going to make sure Rebecca gets a restraining order on you… or maybe I should get lawyers involved… I have quite a few connections that could take you down.
Ex: That… won’t be necessary. Uh… BYE!
Rebecca’s ex-boyfriend quickly turns around and runs away from the scene clearly wanting nothing to do with Jazmyn beating the hell out of him, or with any lawyers. Rebecca herself doesn’t waste any time walking toward Jazmyn and leaning into an embrace from her.
Rebecca: Thanks sis! You managed to scare him off. But wait… why would you sic lawyers on him? That’s a little excessive, isn’t it?
Jazmyn: I never was going to. I just needed to put a little fear into his mind, that’s all. The most important thing is that he’s never going to bother you again and everything’s safe and sound.
Rebecca: Jazmyn, you didn’t have to do that.
Jazmyn takes a deep breath.
Jazmyn: You’re my sister. So yeah, we have different biological mothers, but we’re still sisters.
Rebecca: Thanks, Jaz!
Jazmyn: No Becky, thank you!
Rebecca slightly steps away from Jazmyn and raises her eyebrows in surprise.
Rebecca: Thank me? For what?
Jazmyn: You showed me how the Guardians are going to win that elimination cage match on Saturday.
Rebecca: How? Cammie was right. My presentation was stupid.
Jazmyn: In order to win this match, I am going to have to do exactly what I just did: protect and fight for my family. It’s obviously a bit complicated, but the Guardians ARE like family to me and if I protect them and fight with them and for them, there’s no way we’re going to lose. You still helped me, just… not in a way you thought of or planned.
Rebecca smiles, obviously glad that she played a positive role in a lesson that Jazmyn could and most definitely will take with her going to war against the Destroyers, Team AA and the Midnight Horsemen.
Rebecca: Well… in a roundabout sort of way, you’re welcome.
Jazmyn chuckles and laughs.
Jazmyn: Let’s go inside. I think mother’s done with dinner. I don’t know about you, but I’m starving right about now.
Rebecca: Same here!
Jazmyn turns to open the front door.
Rebecca: Jaz… wait!
Jazmyn stops as she’s about to enter so she could turn to face Rebecca again.
Rebecca: You don’t have to keep the Buffy parody costume if you don’t want to.
Jazmyn smiles.
Jazmyn: No worries. I’m going to keep it. I have a very good idea of what exactly I can do with it. Besides, who said being at war had to be mega serious all the time?
Jazmyn turns around and heads inside with Rebecca not too far behind her. The door is shut and the two siblings prepare to have some dinner, the former obviously grateful about the lesson she learned going into Dissension and the war that she is going to be dealing with in Tampa Bay.
Closing Thoughts
Jazmyn Rain: Enemies can threaten me. That’s all well and good. But my friends and family? They’re off limits as far as I’m concerned. In fact, with all the friends that I’ve made in this business I can honestly say that many of my friends ARE my family and I will even go as far as saying that the Guardians are among that. It’s a simple mission in theory, yet a difficult one in practice: to win this Warfare match, I have to protect my teammates and fight alongside them. It’s not a guaranteed win, I know this. But I know what I can do in a situation like this. If any of the other teams think that they are going to beat us by driving a wedge between us, they better think of another strategy. Why?
Because nothing they try to pull is going to turn me against any of my fellow Guardians! They can always have the faith in me to protect them just like the guardian angel I know I am!
