Some time later, Avery and Serenity arrived at his parents house. They pull up.
"Nervous?"
"Nope, why should I be?"
"Just making sure."
Avery heads out of the truck and opens Serenity's door. They head up to the house as his mom answers.
"My babies!"
She hugs them both.
Serenity laughs softly, as she hugs his Mom.
"More than you know"
She does not realize the joke as she ushers both Avery and Serenity inside.
His dad was sitting on the couch in front of the television, watching football.
"Hey dad."
Joe nods.
Serenity looks over at Avery, as she smiles softly. She licks her lips.
"Hey Dad. Mom, can you come sit down too"
Avery has a seat next to his dad.
Serenity smiles, as she moves to stand by Avery, as she looks towards him, before his mom.
"Mom... Dad.... we got some news for you"
She looks at both of them, as she smiles.
"Well..congrats, you're going to be grandparents"
His mom immediately grabs Serenity and hugs her.
She hugs her back, as she smiles wide.
"Congrats you two! He are so happy for you. Right Joe?"
He half pays attention.
Serenity looks at him, as she frowns.
"Dad...."
"Huh what? Oh. Congrats you two!"
Serenity was a bit hurt, as she looks down.
"Thanks...."
"Avery Joseph Miles II"
Joe looks up.
"Did you even hear your daughter?"
She turns the TV off.
"Its alright mom...."
Joe looks at her remorseful.
"I'm sorry Serenity."
"Thought you would be more excited...."
"I'm sorry. I was lost in the game."
He stands up and hugs her.
"I am so excited for you both."
Averys mom speaks up. "He wasn't excited about Avery until he was three.". She laughs.
"You should say sorry to the peanut"
Serenity laughs as she looks at them.
He leans down and talks into her belly.
"I am sorry little one."
He kisses her belly.
"Such a good grandpa"
Serenity smiles, as she lightly giggles.
Avery's mom grabs Serenity by the hand and drags her away into the kitchen.
Serenity laughs as she is dragged away
"Mom.... do I gotta...."
"Yes. I want all of the details. Dish!"
she sits Serenity on a stool in the kitchen as she cooks.
She laughs.
"I noticed I was late, ending up sneaking out while he was training yesterday, and went to the Dr to see."
She laughs.
"So how far along? What are we thinking for names? Boy and pink? Or going yellow or green for neutral colors?"
Serenity laughs softly.
"Only about a month along. I just told Avery this morning, so we haven't even talked about all of that."
"Well I am so excited for you and Avery. You both deserve to be happy."
She fixes up some coffee and pushes forward a blueberry muffin.
"Eat'
"We ate before we came...."
She looks at the muffin, before at her mother in law.
"Wait, you're going to try and fatten me up aren't you...."
He smiles.
"No. Never. But the muffin IS fresh..."
"Sure mother.... but it's ok"
She laughs softly.
"It's really quite good..."
She pushes the plate closer.
"Alright I will"
She laughs as she goes to start eating it
"So the boys will hang out watching football. You want to keep me company in here?"
"For now I can.... Unless I need a nap"
"That is fine sweetie. Gosh. I am so excited. You are quite calm."
"It's just it hasn't fully set in all the way really..."
"It will sweetie. And I am sure Avery is super excited."
She reaches out, placing her hand over Serenity's.
"He almost dropped the plate of cinnamon rolls when I told him"
She laughs softly.
She shakes her head.
"I guess it just means that the holidays are THAT much more special."
"That's how I started it up when telling him"
"Well looks like I need to do some more Christmas shopping then."
She checks on the turkey in the oven.
