“Protect Your Family: Part 1”
Opening Thoughts
Jazmyn Rain: While Convergence clearly didn’t go the way I would have wanted it to, Resurgence was a far different story. My heart goes out to Honey and Adrien, who had their fair share of struggles that night, but at least for the Guardians, things ended positively not just with two new members, but also with my victory over Trixie to become the number one contender for the NGW Five Lakes Championship. I did want Joshua Goldstein to regain the championship from Jack Tillman quite badly. As I’ve stated before, I would rather have Goldstein with the title but then again, I think those reasons have become just a little more obvious with what took place at the end of the show. Unfortunately, that son of a scoundrel beat him again and he still has yet to pay for what he did at Convergence when he essentially shortcutted his way to the championship.
But that’s okay, because now? I’m next in line and thus, it’s going to be up to me to take that championship from him and trust me, when I get my chance, that’s precisely what I am going to do.
Still, that’s later on. I need to focus on the immediate and the now. Things are looking up for me personally in light of defeating Trixie. It was definitely a thrill to do so in front of a Southern crowd like I was fighting in front of in Atlanta. I can certainly say that it felt like I had a home-region advantage of sorts, but that’s obviously the case anytime I wrestle in the south. I know that Goldstein and Adrien are smarting a bit from their losses at Resurgence, but I have faith in them that they are going to bounce back, especially since they are going to have to with what’s coming up.
Tampa isn’t quite as “Southern” as Atlanta, but I know I’m still going to have a strong base of support… or should we say WE are going to have a strong base of support. For come Dissension… or rather… Warfare… Adrien, Joshua Jessica and I are going to be in quite a battle for ourselves going up against three other teams of four, one of those teams, of course, being the Destroyers. Of course, we’re going to maintain our focus on the other teams as well.
Regardless, there’s no question about the immediate and the now… because now?
It’s time to go to war!
Date: December 4, 2017
After winning a tag team match on the latest episode of Livewire in GCW two days prior, GCW Global Champion Jazmyn Rain returns home to Charlotte to spend some family time. It’s a wonderful occasion with her father finally returning home from the hospital and a dinner is currently being prepared. Camryn Rourke is sitting down at the kitchen table while Jazmyn is helping an older woman with the preparation of the meal. Obviously bored, Jazmyn’s best friend from her college days decide to break the ice.
Camryn: How long has it been since I came over to your father’s house for some dinner?
Jazmyn: Um…
Older Woman: About ten years.
Jazmyn: Oh yeah, thanks Tammy!
Camryn: Do you ever call her “mom” or “mother”? She’s been married to your father for the last 15 years after all.
Jazmyn laughs.
Jazmyn: No matter what I call her, she’s still a role model to me, right “mom”?
Jazmyn laughs as Tammy, her stepmother, answers her.
Tammy: Thanks for the kind words, sweetheart!
Camryn: Where is your dad, anyway?
Jazmyn: Resting for the moment…
Voice: Jaz!
Jazmyn almost jumps into the ceiling in surprise, expressing a moment of being spooked before she turns to face a younger woman in her mid-20’s, her younger half-sister, Rebecca.
Jazmyn: Becky, really? Can’t you see I’m trying to help mom with the roast chicken?
Rebecca: But… I just wanted to say congratulations, you know… for everything that’s been going on lately. Think about it! You’re the GCW Global Champion again and now you’re the number one contender to the NGW Five Lakes Championship! Jazzy, you’re a STAR!
Jazmyn rolls her eyes in sarcastic annoyance.
Rebecca: Also, I wanted to show you something.
Jazmyn: Um… I’m kinda busy right now!
Rebecca: I have everything you need to know about Jack Tillman.
Camryn: Oh lord..
Jazmyn sighs while Camryn shakes her head, the two of them knowing that Rebecca has quite a tendency to be a little too fanatical about Jazmyn’s career. Although, that comes with the territory of Rebecca being such an admirer of her older half-sibling. Of course, it’s painfully obvious that Rebecca would know practically nothing about Jack Tillman other than what’s public information.
Jazmyn: I can’t…
Rebecca: PLEASE, Jaz? I worked really hard on this profile.
Tammy: Don’t worry about me sweetheart, I have everything under control here.
Jazmyn: You sure?
Tammy looks at her and nods with a smile.
Jazmyn: Fine!
Camryn: This I GOT to see!
Rebecca: GREAT! Follow me!
Rebecca scurries out of the kitchen with excitement while Jazmyn and Camryn look at each other, biting the inside of their lower lips with a twinge of nervousness. Jazmyn follows Rebecca out of the kitchen and Camryn stands up from her chair to do the same. Eventually, all three ladies end up in Rebecca’s studio, which in fact, used to be her bedroom while she was still living at home. The set-up is quite cheesy and low budget. There’s an overhead projector with a row of cheap folding chairs nearby. Rebecca turns on the projector and stands by it while Jazmyn and Camryn take their seats. Camryn folds her arms, annoyed, yet amused.
Jazmyn: So… what do you have on Jack Tillman?
Camryn: Jaz, really?
Jazmyn: What?
Camryn: You’re entertaining this?
Rebecca: Come on Cammie! Lighten up will you! So, let’s begin. You have conquered the Prime Girl! You have conquered the queen to become Global Champion again! And now… you will take on the next EVIL that stands in your way of becoming the NGW Five Lakes Champion…. THIS GUY!!!!
Rebecca slams down an image on the projector of a man, but that man isn’t Jack Tillman. Camryn covers her face with her hand in embarrassment.
Jazmyn: Um… Rebecca?
Rebecca: Yes?
Jazmyn: That’s not Jack Tillman. That’s Jefferson Bentley.
Rebecca turns toward the screen seeing that she put down the wrong image.
Rebecca: Oh… you mean that creepy stalker guy that you had to set on fire to get revenge for when you got robbed of the Global title? Oops… sorry… HERE is the next BIG BAD EVIL!!!!
Rebecca quickly slides the image of Bentley off the projector screen and places the proper image of Tillman on there.
Rebecca: JACK TILLMAN!!!! He doesn’t LOOK evil, but beneath all of that exterior is a man so rotten to the core he’d marry Hilary Clinton herself! So… Jack… NGW Five Lakes Champion… even though he shouldn’t be. Remind me sister, why is he the Five Lakes Champion?
Jazmyn: He took a shortcut by assaulting me before I was to face Trixie in a number one contender’s match then he went on to beat Trixie and Goldstein, two completely unprepared individuals, to leave with a title he wasn’t even scheduled to compete for.
Rebecca: EXACTLY! See… he is EVIL…. EEEEEEEEEVIL!!!!!
Camryn: I know you’re a cosplay actress but no need to be so overdramatic!
Rebecca: I am NOT being overdramatic! This man is pure evil! His evil seed is implanted by none other than Chris Constantine. It’s this lethal combination that has not only lead to treachery, vileness and outright, but has also rendered so many great talents as substandard. His victim list is so large I don’t even have enough time to go through it all. And to make matters even WORSE, he is now one half of the tag team champions. He is the wrestling machine cog of the insufferable bastards known as the Destroyers! These wicked, vile scumbags must be brought to justice and it is up to the Guardians to do so!
Jazmyn: Right, I… um… kind of already knew all that.
Rebecca: Oh…
Rebecca takes an awkward pause, though she’s starting to become a little frustrated.
Rebecca: Well… it’s still up to YOU to take that championship away from him because that’s an INJUSTICE that MUST be righted.
Jazmyn: Again, I already knew that.
Rebecca: Okay. Well tell me something I DON’T know about him.
Jazmyn: How about the fact that he lost to Julianna DiMaria in GOL’s Super Falcon Cup tournament?
Rebecca: I missed that one.
Camryn: Okay, listen… you dragged us all the way in here just to tell us something we already knew? How old are you again? 25, right? Act like it.
Rebecca: I’m sorry if I’m trying to lighten the mood and have a little fun, for crying out loud! I don’t even know why Jazmyn even brought you here.
Jazmyn: Becky, chill.
Rebecca: Jaz, we almost never get to see each other, okay? Don’t you think I’d want to have fun with the only sister I’m ever going to have? I mean, come on! Prior to Thanksgiving, the last time we saw each other was your birthday. Remember when we were mocking Golden Class in GCW and pretending to be them? Wasn’t that fun?
Jazmyn: Yes, it was.
Rebecca: Look, all I am saying is, just because you’re a big star doesn’t mean you have to be all mega-serious all the time. I was just trying to help you kick Jack Tillman’s ass. He takes his craft MEGA serious. He doesn’t know when to lighten up and he’s… like… so uptight that his old man does ALL the talking for him. If you’re going to kick his ass, you’ve got to lighten up and wrestle a little looser.
Camryn: Says who? You’ve never been involved in wrestling aside from that little cosplay you mentioned a little bit ago. I’m sorry Jaz, I’m going back to the kitchen.
Camryn, annoyed and disgusted, stands up and walks out of Rebecca’s old bedroom.
Jazmyn: You know, you actually DO have a point there. But, doing what I do isn’t easy. Every single time I step into the wrestling ring, I feel like it’s my responsibility to “save the world” in some respect. It’s a tough work/play balance I have to maintain, you know? Plus, in a few days, I’ve got to face him and the OTHER Destroyers, AND two other teams in this huge cage match so being “light” is going to be hard.
Rebecca: It doesn’t need to be. Here… I got you this.
Rebecca walks to the nearest corner of the room and picks up a box. She hands it to Jazmyn.
Rebecca: I need some time alone right now. I don’t know why Cammie has to be so… so… UGH!!!
Rebecca leaves the room to cool off while Jazmyn remains seated with the box on her lap. She places it aside and opens it, pulling out an outfit consisting of a blonde wig, a plastic, wooden stake, leather pants and a shirt that says “Destroyers Vampires Suck” on it.
Jazmyn: Really? Oh gosh, how is this going to help?
Tammy (from outside): Jazmyn…
Jazmyn turns toward her stepmother.
Tammy: I couldn’t help but hear about what just happened. I know Becky can be a quirk, but she really means well.
Jazmyn: Yeah, but sometimes I wonder....
Tammy: She’s your sister, your blood, your family. Don’t forget that. Spend some time with her for a day or two. She’s right, hon. You two have been apart too long and too much. No matter what, you gotta protect your family.
Jazmyn: I’ll… see what I can do…
Tammy nods before she leaves Jazmyn to her thoughts.
Jazmyn: I still don’t know how this Buffy parody costume is going to help me…
Jazmyn continues to try and sort through her thoughts, unaware of what’s to come.
To be continued...
