Gobble Gobble.
Austen and Mercedes sit in his Black BMW SUV in his mother’s driveway. He looks over to Mercedes.
Austen: Well. Thanksgiving one. We have my mom first. And then my birth mother. You sure you’re family is okay with us doing a Thanksgiving/Christmas mash up holiday?
Mercedes nods her head yes. She looks at him, as she smiles lightly.
Mercedes: They are fine with it. They understand they have to have one holiday only. They have to share us after all.
He nods.
Austen: Okay. It looks like Robbie and Stacy are here already. My mom said my dad is not coming. So that is good. Hunter will be here as well. I wonder if he brought anyone.
Mercedes: I don’t know, is he even talking to anyone right now?
She looks at him, as she hadn’t heard if he was, only that he was friends with Andi. She looks up towards the house.
Mercedes: Just glad your Dad won’t be, so no drama bullshit.
He nods.
Austen: Ready?
They both get out of the SUV. Austen reaches into the back seat. Together, they had baked some cupcakes for the dinner table. As they head inside, the dining room was done up to the fullest as everyone was seated already. His mother was seated at the head of the table. On one side, it was Robbie, Stacy, and then Hunter. On the other side, two seats were made up presumably for Austen and Mercedes.
Austen: Hey everyone!
All: Hey!
Austen takes his hoodie off and hangs it up. Mercedes takes off her own hoodie, as she hangs it up, looking around at everyone.
Mercedes: Don’t tell me you guys were starting without us….
Angela: Never, honey. We were just talking about Robbie and his super cute girlfriend.
Robbie smiles, his eyes up and down Stacy.
Mercedes: She is a great girl. We all had fun meeting her up at the cabin.
She looks over at Hunter, while Stacy smiles, looking at Robbie.
Mercedes: All alone Hunter?
Hunter: Yeah. Riding solo. But you know, always on my toes.
His phone goes off, as he responds to a text.
Austen: We made cupcakes.
Austen puts the pan up on the table. Immediately, Robbie grabs one and bites half of it off.
Angela: Robert!
Stacy starts to laugh.
Stacy: Act like you don’t get enough sweets at home.
Mercedes shakes her head, as she goes to sit down.
Mercedes: Is this everyone then? Hunter who was texting you? Some lucky girl?
Hunter: Mind your business!
He laughs, putting his phone away.
Angela: This is everyone. Turkey is about done. Take a seat and let’s say what we are thankful for. AB?
Austen pulls the chair out for Mercedes as the two of them take a seat. The both of them sit down.
Austen: Thankful? I am thankful for a great family. Great cousins. A new extension of my family that I will visit later today. An amazing mom. And a beautiful fiance that has been here with me since the day we met.
He looks over to Mercedes.
Mercedes: I’m thankful for getting a whole new family, one I never thought I would have, or get to meet. Austen is a big thing I am thankful for, as he has shown me it is good to just settle down, instead of always being all over the place.
She looks over towards Hunter.
Hunter: I am thankful for college. My family. Good friends.
His phone goes off.
Robbie: And unlimited texts!
The table laughs.
Angela: Stacy?
Stacy thinks, as she looks over at Robbie.
Stacy: I’m thankful for Robbie. Lots of new experiences with him, plus thankful I’m taller than he is.
She laughs lightly, teasing him.
Robbie: And I am thankful I am not afraid of spiders!
Robbie stares down Stacy, and sticks his tongue out.
Mercedes: You two are just too funny. What about you Mom?
She looks towards Angela, asking her.
Angela: My son. My soon to be daughter. My nephews. My health. Just. All of it.
She smiles as she looks around to the table. An older man walks into the room bring in the turkey.
Angela: Thank you Davison.
He smiles. Austen leans over to Mercedes.
Austen: Mom is a terrible cook. She always hires Davison for special events.
The girls both laugh.
Stacy: If I had known that, I could of cooked instead of hiring someone.
Angela: Hey. Shush, all of you.
The table all have a good laugh at it. They enjoy their dinner as a few hours go by before Austen and Mercedes get ready for their second Thanksgiving.

Austen and Mercedes head over to his mom’s place as he figured Mateo would be there. They pull up to the small home, very different from Angela’s house.
Austen: I am pretty full, but… here we go.
Mercedes: I know, but least this should make her feel good, us coming over when we didn’t have to. Who all do you think will be here?
She looks over at him.
Austen: I have no clue. Mateo? Maybe some cousins? I really didn’t ask.
There were four cars already in the driveway. The two of them head to the front door and ring the bell. A girl around their age answers the door.
Girl: Hello.
Austen: Hey. We were invited by Isabella.
The girl yells.
Girl: Aunt Isabella. There is a white boy here for you.
Austen smiles, holding back from laughing.
Mercedes: Well you were right on the cousin part.
She laughs, as she looks towards him, shaking her head lightly. Isabella comes to the door.
Isabella: Austen! Mercedes!
She reaches out and wraps her arms around them both.
Isabella: Come in. Come in. I see you met Yasmin. A cousin of yours.
Austen: Yeah. She was… friendly.
Austen and Mercedes share a laugh as they follow Isabella inside to the kitchen.
Mercedes: Does anyone know about Austen?
Isabella: Not really. Just myself and Mateo for now.
Mateo enters the kitchen.
Mateo: AB. Mercedes.
He hugs Mercedes, and fist bumps Austen.
Mercedes: Hey Mateo, how are you?
Mateo: Good. You both missed dinner. But there are leftovers.
Austen scratches his head.
Austen: We are sor-
Isabella: It’s okay. You are here. That is what matters. Please. Eat. We have some family traditions.
Mateo: The rice and beans are the best.
Austen: I’ve never had them before…
Mercedes: Me either really.
Austen is handed a bowl by Isabella, and two spoons.
Isabella: Sit. Sit. Eat.
Austen and Mercedes both grab a couple of chairs as Yasmin comes back into the kitchen.
Mateo: Yas. This is AB. My brother.
She looks shocked for a moment. Mercedes smiles as she wanted to laugh. She goes to eat the food, as she moans softly, enjoying how it tasted.
Mercedes: This is pretty good.
Mercedes says after finishing it. The two of them eat until they are completely full. Isabella gathers everyone and heads into the living room to watch some homemade videos of Mateo when he was little as Austen and Mercedes enjoys their ever growing Thanksgiving traditions.
